The main issue I have with this topic is the assumption of a fair fight, when both disciplines have made trickery and underhanded tactics the core of their combat philosophy. That being said: The monk might withstand a LOT, but closing in on the Mistborn would be another matter entirely.

The sun had long set, the lights in the village that lay behind us all gone out, its denizens huddling close together in the dark, praying. Praying for a miracle--us. It sounded better in my head, but I still like it quite a bit.

are the writing/glyph systems the same across the cosmere?
Kykeon replied to iceheart's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Look, you're onto something here BUT you're thinking into the COMPLETELY wrong direction. It's like how the Japanese writing systems allow you to to write the same word or sound in four different ways, yet it looks pretty different. Some words are bound to be the same since Adonalsium used to be ONE entity. -
...I just remembered something; It's an old theory I never posted since it seemed too trivial/obvious. That feeling might also have been a small dosage of stormlight he drew in from the crystal tien had given him a few minutes before that. Refined crystal holds stormlight better, but it is explicitly stated that small amounts can be held by raw stones as well.

Yes, that's more than likely. My theory is that Spren "exist" everywhere on the planet, but that they need a certain base level of ambient energy to appear/manifest which the stormlight provides. Shinovar is simply an energetic "wasteland" due to the hightstorms being dispelled by the mountains, so no stormlight = no spren.
-
So you mean that Highstorms not happening for a long time is what triggers the Weeping?
-
No, that's --at least according to current knowledge-- incorrect. The seasons (namely the weeping) influence the Highstorms, not the other way around.

...they're pretty much screwed. Which makes me wonder why Hoid is runnign away from them when they're so desperate as to travel to another star with almost Nil chance of return.

No, it'S been mentioned a couple of times, but maybe this time more will come of it. I would be very, very cautious in claiming that Kaladin didn't, but in the case of Szeth it's certainly true. What. If that's true, than it probably has somethign to do with light eye colour and the shard artifacts that, at least according to one prominent rumour, make lighteyes. At this moment I'd like to takes the time to point out yet again that Syl hates shard artifacts... maybe it's because of that? That certainly would be an interesting inversion of the old "fuelled by hatred" Trope...

Yes. Splinters are a more neutral source of power because (to date) we haven't seen any personality bending going on. Of course, that advantage is balanced out by power that is several orders of magnitude smaller than that of a Sliver. Slightly off-topic: Am I the only one whom splinters and their relation to slivers reminded of the Divine Essence in Exalted? http://wiki.white-wolf.com/exalted/index.php?title=Exaltation#Celestial_Exaltation See also: http://wiki.white-wolf.com/exalted/index.php?title=God Sounds like the monomania that seems to take hold of all Shardholders after a certain amount of time, yes?

Would The Stormlight archives work as an Anime series?
Kykeon replied to Kykeon's topic in Stormlight Archive
One would need to go for a "serious" drawing style, like the one used in works such as Ergo Proxy... @Erongal: Thanks. -

Hey Erongal. What do you mean with "Heavy Metal" style in this context? -

This, as well as the vain patterns of the tribes Sigzil visited with Hoid and the skin of the Parshmen. Am I the only one who got reminded of the "Wrath of the Lich King" intro video when Stormlight was described for the first time? -
Copied from Westeros.org Le'ts see, it has Ultra sharp swords that get summoned from beyond 60 feet tall monsters Gravity defying (literally!) martial arts Magical exo-skeletons that create sparkly effects when attacked and create Glowing mist that streams from people's skins and mouths A cute pixie Flashy hand devices so what's not to like? In addition, it would cost a lot less than a live-action series, which is an important factor when dealing with such a rich and detailed Universe, not to mention the length and number of the novels yet to come. What do you think?

Mistwraiths are not sentient. Kandra and Kolloss are not creations, just twisted modifications of the real deal, made possible through the influence of an entity bent on destruction. ;D Parshendi follow the humanoid pattern, with a lot of modifactions to be sure, but they follow it. -They have yet to show any abbility to read or influence minds under normal conditions.

Honour spren were the almighty's gift to humanity so they might face the voidbringers on equal terms. All other spren are basically splinters of the almighty's conciousness that manifest everywhere there is activity or change. I believe this because king Noedan spoke of Honour-spren as sentient entities in one of Dalinar's vision, while Dalinar himself saw none of the common spren, and even commented on it to himself. There are no life/ale/water spren, just different forms of the same power.

I am. Maybe that could be the basis for a spell and ceremony-based magic system? Cymatics play a role in the world, so a combination of sound and symbols might yield useful effects (even though it would probably be used mainly for 'slow' tasks like protection with the more active roles fall to those with innate abillities). Do you see what I see?
-
We could... play Mafia in a Wheel of Time setting and call it Darkfriends. :-P
-
Midnight Essence can be fought with nothing more than a fire poker, while thunderclasts require shard artifacts to be vanquished. See the intro and Dalinar's vision. The two are not the same IMHO.

Greetings! I remember you; do you remember me? (prolly not) May you always find water and shade. :3
