What did we learn about Ardent's soulcasting?
HydrogenAlpha replied to gofunkiertti's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think that every time a person uses a soulcast-fabrial to turn something into a certain essence, the person turns a little of himself into that essence, too. Brandon actually said that fabrial soulcasting has a certain price .. i think this is it. I think thats the reason we only see ardents turning stuff into stone or metal or other solid things. I would prefer wooden nails to turning my thumb into gas. -
There are a lot more secret societies than just the Diagram-guys. They could have been a part of the Sons of Honor or even the Ghostboods. I think we can safely eliminate the possibility of membership at the skybreakers or envisagers.

I think we shouldn't take 'digested' literally. Maybe it's a metaphor ... some dragon gave him a hard time for around 6 months. I never read Dragonsteel but i think the dragons are pretty sentient from what i've heard, maybe he was a apprentice of a pretty 'difficult' dragon ( idk what a dragon would teach you but i'm far too deep into this comment to stop ).

I guess Sazed had to create sentient life with more Ruin than Preservation in order to balance out his both shards. The shards affect the shardholder after some time and I don't think a majority of Ruin would be desirable.

Wasn't this the book where Lopen found Nightblood on the ground and traded it away for 3 donkeys and Odium quit his role as the bad guy to follow his dream being a interior decorator ? I wonder how you guys will react when you find out that Adonalsium shattered because he ate his frozen yogurt too fast.

I always considered Herdaz to be the rosharian equivalent of Mexico, so I immediately thought of burritos/tacos when i read this line. But anyway: Döner macht schöner.

I think James McAvoy would make a wonderful Hoid. Has anyone watched "Filth" ? This guy can sell himself ! Edit: Since the GoT tv-series I always imagine Kelsier as Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

He would certainly be worthy, but not a windrunner though. Stealing the spheres would rule him out of the Honor-club, I guess. If he gets to be a Radiant, I imagine he would be of some order with a regrowth surge.

A Theory, containing WoR spoliers, concerning the Letter.
HydrogenAlpha replied to TheShogun's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The original Hoid is dead, got murdered in the beginning of The Liar of Partinel. Midius ( our Hoid ) presumably took his name to disguise himself ( as far as I remember he's never called Hoid in Liar, but I could be wrong ). And if he really survived shouldn't he write: And do you no longer hide behind MY name ?- 8 replies

Words of Brandon (Q&A Responses)(*WoR Spoilers!*)
HydrogenAlpha replied to Trickonometry's topic in Stormlight Archive
I guess Eshonai makes perfectly sense, since her flashbacks will probably give us deep insights in the Listener's culture and origins, but personally I really don't care for her very much. I felt that she was doomed since the first time we met her - there had to be a catalyst for the return of the Voidbringers. I hope she's gonna get more substance, but i think Brandon will manage it just fine. Nonetheless i'd prefered flashbacks of another character. Gavilar would have been interesting, but that would maybe spoil too much of the plot in advance. Sadeas could have been cool .. the three warlords conquering alethkar, but I guess we will get a POV Sadeas prologue in a coming book. -
Why not just giving it to the Lopen ? As coming king of Herdaz it's just appropriate.

HydrogenAlpha replied to Trickonometry's topic in Stormlight Archive
It could always be a old Renarin telling his children about how he met their mother. Edit: I've gone too far. -
Urithiru is a stormlight-sink (Minor spoilers)
HydrogenAlpha replied to Josiah Bills's topic in Stormlight Archive
As far as I remember Urithiru is assumed - in the book - to be near the Emuli mountains, pretty much in the center of the continent Roshar. Shinovar on the other hand is pretty much as far left as it can be. Nonetheless, I like your second theory very much. If this would be true Dalinar an co. would have a huge edge in the coming desolation and during the weeping. -

Well guys, I think we don't need to worry anymore if a Kaladin/Syl ship is possible. -
Ym Interlude: Iriali and the Long Trail (WoR Spoilers)
HydrogenAlpha replied to The Question's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think we can eliminate Yolen as the 7th land, because the skullmoss wasn't really nice to it. -
I agree with happyman, the 17sharders at the purelake said that Hoid could be white-haired ( but I'm no too sure on this ) and Rock said this "god" made fun of his beard .. sounds like Hoid.

What questions should I ask Brandon?
HydrogenAlpha replied to Trickonometry's topic in Stormlight Archive
As far as I remember he's either called Midius or just "jesk" in Liar, but if it would really just refer to his alias why does it pop up so often ? Additionally, one could argue that he was just dramatic in TWoK when he said the gem lost all its value, but the letter clearly states that the gemstone is dead - how can a name die ? In the next sentence he asks if he keeps hiding behind his old masters name .. why should he waste 2 sentences asking him if he still hides behind 2 different names, when he could do it in just one ? -
What questions should I ask Brandon?
HydrogenAlpha replied to Trickonometry's topic in Stormlight Archive
You could ask him if the gemstone mentioned in the letter is somehow connected to Adonalsium or if Mraize is part of the 17th Shard. -
Quick question: Is it rare to get full and proper words at "failed" attempts ?
-
Maybe he not dying is connected to how he won't grant Dalinar a Shardblade. With no physical connection to this realm maybe there is no danger.

Your favourite moments in WOR? (spoilers)
HydrogenAlpha replied to Aniki's topic in Stormlight Archive
I sincerely hope the mexic.. erm sorry herdazian simplicity and humbleness is a good influence for Elhokar. It's time that this whiny brat becomes a man and who is a better rolemodel then THE Lopen ? -
I hope for you guys that this message is worth encrypting.. would suck to put so much work in it to get something like: " Today i had a delicious crossiant for breakfast. I've decided to spare this certain bakery. "

Atium had the form of silver pearls. They "grew" in the center of crystalline geodes.. but i can't remember the color of them.

I got a 'A Song of Ice and Fire'-vibe, when i read about the masked woman. Quaithe is a worldhopper ?

You could be right with this. I wondered about the connection between the pink gemstone and the rose-colored Aether-stones, too. It's pretty likely that Hoid takes magical artifacts of every single planet he visits with him... would be logical if he did the same thing on his home planet Yolen. A bit longer ago there was this theory that Hoid is actually a Aether who hijacked the body of Midius and now we have some solid evidence on this. It's pretty unlikey nonetheless.
