  1. My brother's in that class. He must be having a meltdown of jealousy.
  2. Kaladin and Syl both tie for first place. Rock and Shallan for second. Dalinar and Hoid for third. Lift isn't even on this list because she's too awesome.
  3. For some reason, when you posted that Peter, I thought of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H47ow4_Cmk0
  4. I will bind that which has been sundered. I will see the truth in the darkness. I will do justice to all who deserve it. I will heal those who have been hurt. I will learn all that I can. I will find another way than the road before me. I will use my wisdom to protect myself and others. I will build up those who have been broken. I will never betray another's trust. I will guide others to the light. Just some food for thought.
  5. I was converted by my brother, and I've successfully managed to convert my dad to the series, mainly by reading the books aloud to him. I'm trying to convert my mom the same way, but with middling success (she completely gave up on Mistborn during Well of Ascension), so now I'm trying to hook her on Way of Kings. I also managed to convert two of my friends, but both of their schedules are so incredibly busy that they don't have time to read.
  6. There is the page right before the Ars Arcanum that is from the "Head of His Majesty's Silent Gatherers". Apparently, this poem was uttered by an illiterate dying Herdazian in a language he didn't even speak all that well. The guy who wrote the paper is just as clueless as we are, though he does say something to the effect of "We leave it to His Majesty mind on a strong day to decipher what this means." An interesting note.
  7. It's on the cover of the book. If you check Brandon's Facebook page, he shows several more pictures of the book.
  8. My reaction upon seeing the thickness of this book... I think I'm in love...
  9. They are in the Way of Kings. Take a look at the beginning of each part. There's a page with the part name, the list of character VPs that are in that part, and a picture of a sword. Part Three, "Dying" has Chach's sword (may be wrong name). Nalan's sword (again, may be wrong) is on "The Illuminating Storms" page. The other three just have Jezrien's blade. Hope this helps!
  10. Shallan flashbacks were half the reason I wanted this book! I'm very curious to see what exactly she did as a child, i.e the reasoning for killing her father, what happened when Nan Balat's leg was broken, dat safe... Shallan is a very mysterious character. How did she get her shardblade? Why is she running away from her past? Is it because of guilt or is it because the memories are just too terrible? Shallan seems to have a panic attack when she Lightweaves a scene from her home. Why is that? There are all these questions that are unanswered. I have the feeling that Shallan is hiding some rather shocking things from herself and from us. Let's see if she's really as innocent and naive as she presumes herself to be.
  11. If you look at the OP, the quote is listed there. I'd love to give you a precise page number, as is my modus operandi, but I'm too lazy to get my tWoK. Edit: Laziness over. It is page 577, Chapter 40, "Eyes of Red and Blue".
  12. I'm going to try and read the book straight through, but probably fail and skip ahead to the chapters that were unavailable on Tor. This is, of course, pending on if I feel like I did well on the ACT. If I feel good, I'll read the book in order. If I feel bad, straight to Chapter 7, no remorse.
  13. Except Kaladin asks him if he tried to kill his master and Sigzil says no. He could be lying, granted, but lying doesn't seem to be in his character. Although, we don't know much about Sigzil at all except he's frikkin scholarly genius. My theory: Our poor scholar drank one beer too many and had a drunken brawl, nearly killed a guy, landed his butt in jail, Hoid had to bust him out. Of course, this theory is rather mundane. Anyone else's thoughts?
  14. Hardcover all the way. Just the weight of the book in my hands makes my day. Also, I love the smell of new books. I know that sounds really weird, but when I got my copy of Hyrule Historia, the first thing I wanted to do was read it. The second thing I wanted to do was smell it. Also, and this may mortify some of you, they make great platforms for putting your cups and food on while you sit down on the couch.
  15. I always assumed the situation went like this: Gaz rejoices when Lamaril is offed, because no more debts! Apparently the Rosharan IRS is even worse than here. He is especially respectful to Lamaril's replacement in the hope that they'll overlook that debt. After all, when the guy you're paying cash to is dead, all is forgiven, right? No. Brightness Hashal strips him of rank and forces him into a bridgecrew. They make him run deathpoint, end of story. Of course, this theory is rather dull and uninspired. Something mysterious has to have happened! BTW, I was at that Italian restaurant, and I saw Blushweaver and Lightsong. They were getting along swimmingly.
  16. Feather, I feel your pain. Whenever my friends read the same books, we all pronounce the names different, and they give me odd looks. Apparently, I am always wrong. Either way, I do hope that the tune for the lullaby is released. I'm sure your cover would be a lot better than mine.
  17. I was smiling throughout the entire thing. Then the Chasmfiend showed up. Me: Whoa! What the- Mom: What are you doing? Me: I'm, uh, watching this video about something... Mom: Oh, okay.
  18. My list of distractions afore WoR comes out: 1. Bury myself in video games and homework 2. Study for the ACT that I will be taking on March 4. 3. Watch the Olympics. Maybe. 4. Really get to work on my novels that I plan to write. 5. Do the great reread of tWoK.
  19. To all those who responded to my previous post: thanks for your opposing viewpoints. You are correct: Amaram is technically not lying when he says that he got them from a Shardbearer off the battlefield. And I understand your opinion of Amaram; in fact, I share it. However, Amaram's not denying that he got those Shards either. And he's done some horrible things to Kaladin and his men. His reasonings may be just, but he's walking around with stolen* property bought with four innocent lives. That's just not cool. Either way, I do really appreciate your analysis and comments. Seeing a different viewpoint is always great for intellectual stimulus and discussion. I hope I offended no one. *For those of you who disagree with this term, I understand. This is just how I see the situation.
  20. My reaction to Amaram talking about how he got his Shards: WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?! You ungrateful little schmoozle, those aren't yours! *Fumes at computer screen* My hate for Amaram has gone up exponentially. Please let Kaladin stick him on the ceiling! Other than that, nice chapter sets. I'm a little sad that we won't get anymore, but I console myself with the fact that I've preordered the book. So now, just a little over a month to go before I see how that confrontation plays out.
  21. I'm guessing at Aharietam. I currently do not have my copy on me, but I think Kabsal says that the Heralds left after Aharietam and left behind the KR to watch the people. The Recreance was some later event. Correct me if I'm wrong.
  22. Hoid, if I remember correctly, is a LOT older than he looks. He easily could have just learned the language on each of the Shardworlds near the beginning and regularly checked up on them to keep up with language shift and dialect creation. Although, he's also timeskipped a lot, so perhaps he's just really good at remembering languages.
  23. There have also been some Word of Brandon's (correct me if I'm wrong) that say that you can access Shadesmar both physically and mentally. Apparently, Jasnah's favorite way of going to Shadesmar is physically. I'll be interested to see what those look like in the book.
  24. If Earth weapons were allowed on Roshar, then I'd suggest a high caliber sniper rifle in close range. If a good sniper rifle can be fired from over a mile away and still kill its target, at five hundred yards it might be able to puncture through Shardplate. The problem is (aside from Earth weapons not being allowed on Roshar, of course ), a sniper rifle of that kind of caliber is also dang heavy. You'd have to lug the thing over to a certain spot, then try and herd the Shardbearer towards the sniper. And then there's the problem of not dropping the Shardbearer right away, you have a PO'd man in Shardplate right on top of you. If we're playing by Roshar rules, Porridge Brick's idea is fantastic.
