WOR Tour Scrapbook - Your participation requested!!!!
karaokeang replied to karaokeang's topic in Events and Signings
Oh but you can help by filling out a card. Go to the website, print out a card and put your thoughts, a drawing or maybe even a ketek on it. Scan it and send it back to me and I will include it in the album. You can also help by spreading the word to reach as many fans as possible! I am not really worried about album size at this point. A small album for 6" x 8" page protectors will hold approximately 400 3x4 cards if you stuff it to the the gills. A large album (12"x12") will hold 960 cards with a 50% mix between 4x6 and 3x4 sizes. If the majority is 3x4 size, it will hold almost double that. So we can gather a ton of cards. It is more constrained by my budget for this project than anything else and I have committed to the cost of a large album supply-wise. -

These are all great ideas and could be incorporated into the album. I do not have the time or the skill to make a CD but if someone was willing to do it, I would totally put the CD in. As far as the front, I hadn't decided on a title yet. The album I am thinking of using is plain chipboard so I can paint it whatever color I would like and it is easily modified it. Here is an example of another album I did for documenting my family's christmas. I think I could manage a debossed soulstamp which is a great idea. As far as the title in Alethi goes, I am not a graphic designer and I haven't had enough time to play with Isaac's Alethi font. If someone (hint, hint) wanted to provide me with a SVG or PNG file of Words of Radiance in Alethi, I do have an electronic die cutter and could make a cut out of the title for the album front. Please keep the ideas coming, it will only make the album cooler. I have asked Botanica if I could use her artwork and she said yes!!! So excited. OMG!! Thanks Awesomeness! Too cool! -
I am currently rocking a Samsung Galaxy S4. I will be upgrading to the Galaxy S5 when it is released in the near future.

WOR Tour Scrapbook - Your participation requested!!!!

I can definitely send you cards no problem if you are willing to take on this task. It is a thing, I am moving forward with the book no matter what. It may be very Seattle-centric but the book is happening no matter what. I have already put a ton of time into it and I will scale it down if needed as far as size goes but it is happening. -
I got this crazy idea to create a scrapbook documenting the WOR tour for Brandon. I do a style of scrapbooking called Project Life and I think it would be awesome to create a book for him this tour. How it would work: I would provide the album and all the page protectors and we could have all the fans on tour stops fill out 3x4 inch cards with their thoughts for Brandon and maybe words of thanks for being the awesome writer that he is. The cards just slip into the pockets and we can also put photos/fanart in it. I will put decorative elements on the page related to the books too. Sample page: I think it would be really neat if on the first stop of the tour he started getting some of these cards filled out from fans. He probably won't know what to do with them. I will print photos and fan art to include in the book and I am creating ways to gather that content. Once he gets to Seattle we can give him the album for all those cards he has gathered already and with as many cards as possible already in it. At tour stops with 17th Sharders/people participating, they can print out cards or I will send cards to them and hand them out to fans to fill out to give to Brandon when they get their books signed. I can even make cards ahead of time to send in them in the mail if we coordinate this right. For those who can't make it to a tour stop but still want to be included, they can fill out a card, scan it and send it back to me and I will print it out and include it in the book. By the end of the tour, Brandon would have this scrapbook filled with thoughts and thanks from the fans. I have created a blog with a sample page, more on the idea and cards for download. Awesomeness Summoned was truly awesome and has already designed cards for people to fill out. I would also like to create a page with a collage of photos of people with their copies of WOR. Check out the blog and let me know if you would like to participate... Oh and if you could, please share this with other Brandon fans. Thanks!

I play Hearthstone too. Tag me up at Dierna#1608 and let me know you are from 17S.

Limelleth, thank you for all your awesome suggestions. They really got my mind working. So here is my idea. I would like to make a tour scrapbook/thank you book documenting this tour. I do a style of scrapbooking called Project Life and I think it would be awesome to create him a book for this tour. How it would work: I would provide the album and all the page protectors and we could have all the fans on tour stops fill out 3x4 inch cards with their thoughts for Brandon and maybe words of thanks for being the awesome writer that he is. The cards just slip into the pockets and we can also put some photos in it. I will put decorative elements on the page related to the books too. I can make cards that are pretty simple and I would have Radiant ideals on them and maybe allomantic symbols on them and other graphical stuff from his other books. I think it would be really neat if on the first stop of the tour he started getting some of these cards filled out from fans. He probably won't know what to do with them. I can print pictures that are posted on his Facebook page to slip into the album before the Seattle stop. Once he gets to Seattle we can give him the album for all those cards he has gathered already. At tour stops with 17th Sharders, they can print out cards and hand them out to fans to fill out to give to Brandon when they get their books signed. I can even make cards ahead of time to send to bookstores if we coordinate this right. For those who can't make it to a tour stop but still want to be included, they can fill out a card, scan it and send it back to me and I will print it out and include it in the book. By the end of the tour, Brandon would have this scrapbook filled with thoughts and thanks for the fans. We can scale the size of the album to how many people end up participating. It would be a neat way to document his tour and an easy way for fans to say thanks in a very compact size. This blog post demonstrates what I am thinking but definitely more cool and hip but with messages from fans. http://beckyhiggins.com/mini-album-inspiration-wedding-guest-book/ If you guys think this is a good idea, I would love some graphic design help for creating pdfs of cards and I don't even know where to start coordinating this if we wanted to do it large scale. So what do you think? Please like it because I am really excited about this and would be crushed if you all think it is crap.

Thanks so much! I love them!

When looking at their website most of the signings are in the town hall now. I wonder if it will be in there. I have no idea where this is. Also, I think I can make Bridge 4 temporary tattoos for everyone. We could all put them on our foreheads..
-
Yeah I wasn't sure about the poster idea. I thought it would be fun to do something different. If anyone can come up with different ideas that would be awesome. Do we know if the signing is going to be in the church yet?
-
So.... Since there are a lot of 17th Sharders in Seattle, I think it would be fun if we do something fun at the signing this tour. Anyone else interested? I know that I am in and my friends Mel and Holly who will be attending are up for anything too. I am not an ideas person so the best I have come up with so far is to make posters like it is a sporting event or rock concert. I am very crafty though so if you have an idea, there is a good chance I can execute it. If you think posters are a good idea, what should the posters say? #1 FANDERSON!!! is one that I came up with. Brandon's writings have brought a lot of joy to my life and I just feel like I want to give something back in the way of making a signing different or more cool. Plus us Seattle fans have to represent, right?

Just FYI for those pre-ordering eBooks from Amazon, my Steelheart pre-order hit my Kindle at 12am EST. I live in Seattle so I got the book at 9pm. I would imagine it would happen the same for WOR.

Will you skip ahead in Words of Radiance?
karaokeang replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
When I voted, I was going to go back and skim the first 6 chapters as soon as the book hits my kindle. Based on Peter's answer though, I will just read the first 6 chapters while I am waiting for the book to hit and then continue on from Chapter 7. My WOK Kindle copy has all the artwork included though harder to read but I am going to wait to pick up my hardcover until the signing on the 8th. Does anyone know at what time the ebook will drop? I seem to remember Steelheart downloading to my Kindle at 12AM EST which was awesome since I am in Seattle. -
So excited. Since there are a lot of Seattle 17Sharders, we should plan something fun.
-
So what are you going to do until WoR comes out?
karaokeang replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I am going to re-read WOK in a couple of weeks. I want to time it so I finish up with just a couple of days to go before WOR comes out. I will also be playing video games (Hearthstone FTW!!!) and doing my regular crafts. I really need something to fill my time up book wise though. I am a very fast reader and the books I have bought aren't lasting more than a day. I read the first book of the Demon Cycle in a day. I started Malazan but am having trouble getting into it halfway through. I haven't found any characters to latch on to yet. I also started the Deepgate Codex but put that book down too. Maybe I will go back and try to muddle through those ones. -
Should I buy the hard cover or ebook of WoR?
karaokeang replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I buy both. I have already pre-ordered the ebook for my first read-through. 1000 page books are not conducive to reading everywhere (bed, car, sofa, bathroom) and I can turn on text to speech during my commute. I will probably put in a pre-order for the hardcover on Amazon in the next couple of days. The book will probably never get read and will be only cracked open to look at the artwork and to have Brandon sign it when he comes to town again. Oh and I have had Brandon sign an ebook. My Kindle has a great big signature in gold metallic ink on the back of it. -
I just want to point out that when the Lord ruler picked up the power he modified the genetic makeup of the people on Scadrial. The serfs were different than the nobles in order to work outside in the ashy environment caused by his moving the whole planet. Vin only was able to become a mist born because her dad was a noble.

Crazy Theory about Spren and Shardblades
karaokeang replied to karaokeang's topic in Stormlight Archive
I just want to thank everyone for such interesting discussion. I don't have solid basis for this theory but it is more of a gut instinct. You all have given me much to think about. Thanks again!- 16 replies

Crazy Theory about Spren and Shardblades
karaokeang replied to karaokeang's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think she would be silent though. I think she would be her regular bad chull self until he needed a weapon and then she would pop over. It also makes sense why all the shardblades have names.- 16 replies

Okay this is probably a crazy theory and I may be off base but I have been thinking about this for days. What if Spren transformed into shardblades when needed? Like as the bond develops, the Nahel spren becomes more and more developed physically and eventually turns into the shardblade. The reason I came up with this is that Syl is becoming more entrenched in the physical world and Kal can actually feel her standing on his hand now. The 10 heartbeats for a blade to appear could account for the time it takes for a spren to pop over to the cognitive/spiritual(??) realm and transform into a blade and pop back into the physical realm. This would also explain the great betrayal of the KR to the spren. When the KRs laid down their swords, they were actually giving up their bond to their spren. That is why the spren screamed and would also explain why Syl doesn't like Dalinar's shardblade. It is essentially a comatose spren. Okay. I am at work so I can't cite passages to back up my theory but I thought I would hear what you all think. Feel free to blow massive holes into my theory.

So which document are we going to use? I would love a spreadsheet that everyone can access and update like the one Cem created and I have updated. I can add more fields to it. Here is the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0An26dy4dXmx6dGEzRnJBZHoxNFc3SzFhb3cySmN1aGc&usp=sharing

We have something started that you are looking for but not everything in one sheet. If you look up the thread that is titled "known surgebinders", there is a Google doc where we started to gather this info. I am on my phone or I would post the link.

Why do I get the feeling Jasnah is going to die?
karaokeang replied to The Count's topic in Stormlight Archive
While Jasnah is a mentor to Shallan it is the blind leading the blind. I don't think Jasnah knows much more than WE do. -
Bumping this up so we can continue to gather information in this spreadsheet!!!

What are you most excited about to see in Words of Radiance
karaokeang replied to Andy50's topic in Stormlight Archive
Haha. I had to upvote just because of this statement. Totally tickled my funny bone! What I am looking forward to is Brandon is answering some of our questions and giving us so many more to ponder. I think that is Brandon's greatest skill. He is great at giving us this big fat ol' mystery and then slowly but surely reveals a little more with each and every chapter. It makes me crave more but at the same time satisfies me by the end of each book. Brandon's fan interaction also plays into this too because during breaks between books he continues to drop clues and hints that make it so interesting to go back and re-read the book again and learn even more. So, yeah, that is what I most looking forward to!
