  1. Just finished reading these books. I thought NotW flowed like a poem. Loved it. I like WMF too, but I don't think as much... It seemed rather choppy in a sense. The story felt like it hit stone walls of transition constantly. Finally killed bandits BAM Felurian. Done with Felurian BAAAAAM Adem life for months. I don't know, it was all fun but I prefer a more on topic story. What makes me feel really dense in the head though, is that I can't figure out why it is called the Wise Man's Fear. Can anyone help me out with that? I don't remember a part that talked about that as openly as we hear characters say "the name of the wind."
  2. I think that sums it up rather nicely. There definitely seems to be a wind aspect to Syl, and I don't see honor as a windy trait for any reason. Although, if there highstorms are a function of Honor, there might be a link there, but that's not the reason for the season right now if you know what I mean. Either way, I have sort of lost my theory lust now that Words of Radiance is so close to release - I'm just looking forward to having it all explained to me and having new questions on my plate for a while (If I was an Adem from a Patrick Rothfuss book, I'd signal intense understatement about now).
  3. Woah nice post. BUT as far as being a world leader, I think coordinated stupidity might be WORSE! if anyone knew when to strike, you would be a sitting duck! but that is just for funzies. Overall I think Big T would probably be better too. I just like Dalinar more.
  4. Right, that quote was referenced on the first page. Point being that if an honorspren is cousins with windspren, painspren, and gloryspren, there could be several variations of them. It is a very open ended WoB in the sense that "cousin" is a very loose term. I don't think the parent of windspren and the parent of honorspren were siblings. It's a word to show they are related in some ways, but aren't classified as the same thing. Everyone wants to say that Syl is an Honorspren honorspren HoNoRsPrEn, but the point is that there is no confirmation that an honorspren could not also look like a little rock spirit when drawn to a Stoneward. It could be the honor of the KR in question that attracted the spren while the form is different. Then Brandon could just as easily say "honorspren are cousins to stonespren." I'm saying we are over-classifying without real confirmation (which I'm a big fan of when it is kept in the realm of theorizing, but as you can see, it is taken for fact).
  5. I could have sworn his extra intelligence comes at the cost of being extremely dim-witted about the same amount of time, no? I think that brings down your average a tad. At least Dalinar won't get stupid at random....
  6. streeeeeetching. honorspren follow the wind, look like the wind, flyin' around with the wind, ------ just honorspren without a bond. Syl's appearance didn't change over time - and there is evidence that the bond was formed before the first time we even saw Syl "on screen".
  7. You keep ignoring the appearance part of it. She looks just like a windspren. There is definitely a wind aspect to her. I don't know why everyone is trying to skirt around it because they want her to be 100% honorspren. That's just not enough to explain what she is. Windrunner. Windspren. Wind powers. It's ok guys... she has a wind element to her.
  8. I find it to be an interesting quality for honorspren to follow around the wind up in the sky. Just crazy how they would fit so perfectly as windspren, but are really all about honor.
  9. Dresden Files were a snoozefest in my opinion. Bought three of them and just couldn't finish the third. Not in my normal "I don't have time right now *forgets*" way, but I really made a decision not to keep reading. It is a little too.... unexplained for me. The Wheel of TIme would have been on this list for me 5 years ago; I picked it up over and over but couldn't get through the first book. Then I really sat down and gave it time and it's my favorite series. Love WoT so much.
  10. Right..... so an honorspren Honorspren that looks like a windspren because they all look like windspren,---- or an honorspren Honorspren that Kaladin mistakes for a windspren even though he has seen them his whole life?
  11. You are going with the "Kaladin is an idiot" theory or the "honorspren and windspren are identical" theory?
  12. Thank you. I'll have to put more effort into finding that quote. That answer is confusing though. Do all honorspren look exactly like windspren? Windspren seem to be a fairly common thing, so either Kaladin is a bit of an idiot, or she is an honorpren that looks like a windspren.
  13. I was referring to a post that was made recently with a picture of a WOK book that was signed by Brandon. The inscription said one of the Heralds took back their Honorblade, and uses a masculine pronoun, so I don't think it will be Shallash. Sorry, first quote was a bit rushed.
  14. This is also my greatest hope that Dalinar will live to see at least book 4. He has a lot of Uniting to do. If he is going to die before at least partially accomplishing this, I'm going to be a little T.O.'d that we had to hear it so many times.
  15. Eh, I think number 2 is based on a bit of a misconception. Syl is a windspren, by my memory. She is also an Honorspren. There were a couple Brandon interview questions I just read about Syl where specifically says she is. I'll do my best to find them again, but I did a lot of searching a few days ago... EDIT: Couldn't find the one where Brandon himself says windspren, but there is this cryptic exchange... QUESTIONAnd she's what, a Bonding Spren? BRANDON SANDERSONYou will find out. She [says she's] an Honorspren, but you will find out. ZASIs that bond the Nahel bond? BRANDON SANDERSON[Nervous grin on Brandon's face] [laughter] There is a certain amount of... It is a symbiotic bond that is gained by Syl. And things gained by the person bonding. And the stronger presence in the physical realm, and the ability to think better in the physical realm is a part of that bond. She is mostly getting [something] of the physical realm. Without the bond, it is very hard for her to think in this world. QUESTIONBecause she's windspren? BRANDON SANDERSONThat's part of it. That's part of something else.
  16. Haha, no problem, that happens a lot on this site. There are going to be a few things that just go completely against what we know in the next book and we are going to turn around and find that we convinced ourselves of things that aren't true. You should go look at hoser's I Told You So posts on all the people on both sides of some crazy theories they/we have convinced ourselves of. I feel like I only joined last week, but welcome to the site!!
  17. That is not necessarily how this works. One Herald went and took their Honorblade back. That does not mean the rest have not been taken by others. If that were the case, it would change the discussion quite a bit though.
  18. It is not as defined as the rest of those above - but there is the line about the Shin apparently being able to recover his Blade with no problems, which would seem unusual considering Blades normally just drop to the side. I doubt there is always a Shin babysitter following him. It suggests different behavior.
  19. I don't think that she is the one Herald who went back to get their Honorblade. Don't know if you saw that post, but there will only be one, and it doesn't sound like it is Shallash.
  20. Yes. And I would think that if she has an Honorblade, she is not too worried about getting a normal Shardblade.
  21. I agree Darkness is probably a Herald, but the "simple explanation" rule doesn't apply here. In the natural world we use it to make assumptions and it is helpful to us. In story - one used for entertainment - those unexpected twists are essential. Compounded with our knowledge being extremely limited and subject to change.... It is worth embracing every valid argument and not just the convenient ones.
  22. Happy Birthday Brandon! I think this calls for a celebratory release of a new WoR chapter! What better gift could you give yourself than that of happy fans!?
  23. Wow, that is true, good thought.
  24. Yeah, after noticing that my only thought was that the art was done by 4 separate artists. I would think it would be a detail Brandon would make sure to tell them, but can't say for sure. It is also possible that the two variations are like timestamps of his image, and the mark is something new. Doubtful, I know, but something to consider. Some good points here. I, along with others, pointed out pretty quickly that Darkness fit Nalan's Just pretty quickly after reading the interlude, but a thousand years shouldn't do just a lot to these people - it appears they are going insane. So I don't consider that a real reason to dispose of the possibility.
  25. I don't remember exactly why we decided that Darkness was Nalan. I think it was because it seemed like he used Windrunner abilities, and had a Just-type demeanor, right? The thread in the steel-hunt forum suggests it was just kind of.... decided on. Mostly based on the Just thing, and the fact that Darkness has papers. I'm curious because he is described several times has having a mark underneath his eye, and we have a Herald who has just that in the drawing of his face - Kalak. He also has the Transportation surge, and we don't know exactly how that will play out for him. We assume Transportation is used by Jasnah to do Shadesmar stuff, but why couldn't it be used for fast transport in the Physical world? Lift does think it would be impossible for him to have followed her. That could be explained by a Windrunner's speed or something like that, but a Transportation surge might do the trick as well. It is starting to come up again in conversation as though we are sure Darkness is Nalan, but the physical description with the mark fits Kalak dead on, soooooo... thoughts? EDIT: I just found a picture online of Kalak with no mark, so I was wrong, but I was referring to the one on the Surgebinding chart. That might have been something that was just an effect on the art, but I figured it was worth talking about. One instance of a mark is better than none, right?
