  1. I agree with the points jParker and Mandamon and just have a small addition to their comments. and that is about his pocket change. even if everything is in large denominations, how is "a few million" going to fit in his pocket? and who would believe a 9-yr-old paying with $100 bills. Unless the term "cash" is refering to more of a credit card, but i still wouldn't believe a kid having a credit card without it already being established in the world building. Overall my interest is piqued and I'll be excited to read more.
  2. My sister dressed up as Vin for halloween complete with mistcloak, coin pouch, and metal flakes. Personally I thought she looked like chewbacca gone gray, but any book good enough to inspire hours of work to make a costume, it would be worth looking into. Besides, I had to learn more about the crazy idea that money is for jumping not spending. So I borrowed her copy of FE...and have been hooked ever since, even to the point of listening to the entire Writing Excuses archives.
  3. Welcome to the Forum and Yay for audiobook fans! I feel guilty rereading his monster sized books all the time, but with audiobooks I can multitask and revel in the guilty pleasure of hearing the stories over and over. Just relistened to WoK in preparation for any WoR readings Brandon will do at the Portland signing next month.
  4. Welcome Sabrina! if you want email notifications, adjust your profile settings. access the settings with the drop down menu by your name at the top right corner of the webpage.
  5. Audiobooks all the way! And ebooks second, just so I can have the entire collection with me at all times. The only downer is that I have nothing for brandon to sign when he come to town next month since everything is digital.
  6. Hello fellow 17th Sharder. I had an interesting introduction to Brandon's work. Last halloween my sister dressed up as Vin in a mistcloak, only I thought she was Chewbacca gone gray. So after explaining, I had to read the book and find out about this Vin and her strange cloak and money not for spending...after consuming the Final Empire in a day I was hooked for life and chastized my sister for not sharing earlier. She has been a fan long enough to have the first edition cover of Final Empire, you know, the one that Brandon hates. The rest is history.
  7. I like your thinking. It could be Brandon's way to give a sort of cameo to his whole fan base, at least those in the know about the cosmere. Yet another easter egg hidden in his books.
  8. That looks really classy, I'm sure a whole shelf of Stormlight Archives will look spectacular like that. where did you find a leather bound copy anyway? I've never seen that option for sale.
  9. maybe you could better show the change from simple machine to sentient AI by writing 3-mac's perspective as if it was computer code, then gradually switch to AI as his sentience expands. For Example: Material Received. Identifying...Crate type AA53 Processing Sequence W47...Execute Fold, turn, weld, turn... Processing sequence W47 complete. Awaiting material Material Receiveing error code 76: Maximum time interval exceeded Troubleshooting...power failure to conveyer belt Standby for repair drones. Instruction download...analyzing Proceed to communication hub 88JDX for unscheduled system upgrade. Route parameters: Avoid Security drones at all costs and so on. the reader probably doesn't need to know what the factory is making or why power went down. Starting this way zeros in on action rather than description, and would provide greater contrast with the sentience it gains at the communication hub. after 3-Mac's upgrade you can easily revert to a more normal way of storytelling, leaving the command language behind.
