Mid-Range Game 9: The Steel Ministry
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Grim looked on in amusement as tempers flared and the arguments began to become more heated. Should probably lay off of the zinc, he thought, burning brass now instead of rioting everybody. Just peeking in and giving a friendly reminder to keep things calm and civil! It never hurts to review the Etiquette Policy and remember this is all just a game and in good fun!- 755 replies

Mid-Range Game 9: The Steel Ministry
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
A long, dark silence had fallen over the cavern as everybody sat patiently waiting to see what would happen next. Even the vaporous tendrils of mist that had managed to creep trough the cracks and crevices into the cavern seemed listless and barely stirred save for the occasional passing breeze. Grim decided it was best to keep an audience waiting, it helped build more suspense that way, he figured. After much continued deliberation, the students had carefully put forth a new suspect to condemn, this time he just wanted to make sure. Inquisitors were never in the habit of making mistakes, of course, but it never hurt to be careful. Well, it never hurts me to be careful, at least, Grim laughed to himself. This time he dragged the protesting Arad Penrod behind him alone all the way down the hall, burning a steady supply of pewter to not exert himself too much, as there was plenty of work still ahead. *** While everybody had decided to wait in the main room for Grim to return, Andierre Reymond had wanted to explore the place that they were currently trapped in, planning for the worst case scenario. He hated the feeling of being powerless, unable to make a difference with his strength. Sure, in most situations he could burn pewter and be perfectly fine. But when he was confined, unable to outmaneuver his opponents, or even face them head on in a contest of brawn? Not to mention with his dwindling supplies. That's why he decided it was best to hide his pewter charges for that occasion. No need to have extra metal on him and give any coinshots any extra ammunition. And with half of the rooms basically being coated in steel, there were many good hiding spots for metal vials. Maybe he'd even get lucky and find somebody's long lost stash. He was humming to himself and too caught up in the intricate engravings etched into the steel tabletop. He was fairly certain it was written in the Steel Alphabet, he recognized it from his invitation. He never even heard the skaa sneak up behind him until they slipped the garrote around his neck, the razor sharp barbed thread digging through his neck and choking him. Frantically he tried to fumble around in his pocket for his metal vials, but it was too late as they gave the wire one last, sudden twist as the floor rushed up to meet him. *** Grim appeared many hours later, suddenly crashing through the door and into the room startling everybody. "Koschei Jerzy, come with me," He said in a tone that brokered no questions, and strode back out of the room. Koschei ran to catch up with him, nearly tripping over Andierre's dead body as he turned the corner. Grim hadn't even stopped or glanced at the body and kept walking on up ahead. "Um, sir, that's a dead body?" Koschei said, almost questioningly. "Yes, it is. But that doesn't concern you. Just follow me." "Where are we going....?" "You'll see soon enough," Grim replied cryptically and not without a hint of amusement. It wasn't until many hours later when Grim had returned, but not with Koschei. "You've already been briefed," Grim said to the newcomer as they stepped into the room and out of the shadows. "Welcome back, Marie Lepinceau." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arad Penrod was an Inquisitor Seeker! Andierre Reymond was an Inquisitor Pewterarm! Day 3 Begins! First things first, Kasimir has had to step out of this game for RL priorities, but that means Ripple Gylf gets to come back in the role of pinch-hitter and take their place! The game will continue as normal and should not be affected in any way! Welcome back, Ripple! Apologies for the delay in getting this thread up sooner, but I hope this'll suffice! The thread will continue to be locked at exactly the time the cycle rolls over, however, whether I'm online to get the next cycle up or not! Cycle 3 will end at exactly 2AM EST, Monday October 26th. EDIT: Apologies for the lengthy delay, real life work and sleep schedules finally collided, and this GM needs to catch up on some rest. I'll get the next cycle up as soon as possible, and will make up for it with awesomeness!- 755 replies

Mid-Range Game 9: The Steel Ministry
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Important Notice: Due to my error with the lynch tally, and the incorrect lynch on Ripple, she will now be fulfilling the role of a Pinch-Hitter. So first player who notifies me that they want to drop out of the game for inactivity issues, Ripple will take that character's place, role, info, and all. Please do not abuse it, as there is only one Pinch-Hitter position available, so really only consider it if you really believe you can't continue the game otherwise. And with that, back to your regularly scheduled slaughter!- 755 replies

Mid-Range Game 9: The Steel Ministry

No, you are correct, and I was just unable to lock the thread in time, and had missed that previous vote as I was only reading for red votes and missed the edit time, so that was my mistake, I am working on the issue right now, but until otherwise just continue the game as normal.- 755 replies

Mid-Range Game 9: The Steel Ministry
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Her vote didn't count for either, as the post was made after the cycle had already ended, and was edited even after that, it was after the cycle ended, but all the votes placed before it ended has Ripple still in the lead with 3 votes, with Phattemer and Meandbooks tied at 2 votes. If there was some other sort of error I overlooked pelase let me know and I will try and fix immediately!- 755 replies

Mid-Range Game 9: The Steel Ministry
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
"My, it seems like you were all quite eager to get started!" Grim had exclaimed, arms spread wide and gesturing wildly with obsidian daggers, rioting everybody's sense of paranoia and aggression, heightening the slowly building tension that could be felt in the room. It didn't take long for almost everybody to become fully embroiled in the clashing and seemingly circular arguments, with everybody pointing fingers, naming names, and shouting over each other. It seemed that almost everybody had accused every other single person of being a traitor among them at some point over the course of the night. Or has it been two nights?, Grim thought idly. With the only exit -- and source of light -- blocked, it had become almost impossible to tell the passage of time. It had seemed like they were truly stuck here until some sort of progress had been made. Still, the hours had bled together and Grim found himself beginning to grind his teeth. He had given them a deadline, a precise task expected to be carried out in it's full capacity as a member of the Canton of Inquisition. He finally held up a hand, trying to silence them. He shouldn't have let his mind wander idly on thoughts of hot knives and pressing questions. Some bickering and uncertainty continued, until Grim had to finally send out a blast of Soothing, flaring Brass as strongly as he could. He knew that this emotion smothering blast would pierce through even copperclouds. "The time has come." He said, beckoning them forward. They all trailed behind him, casting away all previous quarrels as they followed Grim into the bowels of the cavern as it wound its way slowly deeper and deeper into the earth. The passing lines pointing towards the metal torch brackets on the wall growing further and further apart told Grim that they were getting into the real depths of the dungeons. His burning tin filled his head with the sounds of rustling cloaks and slow and careful footsteps, the scuff of shoes and the kicking sound of gravel. He heard a dripping sound somewhere up ahead and already knew it wasn't water. "I've shown you mere glimpses of the sacred blessings of Hemalurgy," Grim said, ushering the students into the room at the end of the tunnel hiding behind a massive arched obsidian doorway. "Now let me show you other aspect of being an Inquisitor," he said. He was hardly able to contain himself. "Let me show you the art of Inquisition." There was a single burning fire in the center of the room, casting wicked and deceiving shadows on the circular walls, as the room was a giant circle, the walls lined with various shelves and racks and chains. There were countless random saws, knives, spikes, and dark, twisted weapons or tools that must be used for indescribable horrible acts. The floor was metallic and grated, stained a sickening stain of red that didn't look like rust. "Will Marie Lepinceau please step forward." *** Grim finished many hours later, not exactly satisfied with the answers he had heard. He knew he had asked the right questions. And there was no doubting the method, that was for sure. He finally looked up, gazing each and every person in the room in the eyes. "Not guilty." He declared, putting the poor woman out of her misery and slashing her throat in one last, quick motion. *** Milon Bulvier walked back from the.... "lesson", slightly more disturbed than feeling educated. He had decided to let himself trail behind the main group as they all slowly made their way back up the dimly lit tunnel. He preferred to be left alone with his thoughts for the moment. He considered swallowing another vial of zinc, but decided against it. Besides, he had been rioting people all day, and hadn't really seemed to accomplish much anyway. Maybe that's the problem with zinc and rioting, he thought, wondering. You always spent so much time and conscious effort being aware of other people and their emotions, trying to influence or manipulate them in some way. But that left the person burning the metal so little time wondering about themself! Like what was he really doing here? Sure, he didn't really seem to have a choice in the matter at the time, but he wondered what about himself had even gotten their attention in the first place. He knew he had the aptitude for watching people and picking up on and reading body language, that was all part of being a rioter. Being able to understand people. Perhaps that was why he was chosen. Feeling more resolved, he quickened his step, getting ready to burn some more zinc, to help encourage people toward more discussion and ferret out the skaa harassing them. So caught up in himself and his plans for everybody else, Milon walked right past the skaa without even noticing. It was the byproduct of ignoring them for basically his entire life, and by time he realized what was wrong, the knife was already being shoved into his back, as he felt the cold obsidian cut right through him, and a hot, searing pain ripped through him. He tried to scream, but a rough, callused hand covered his mouth and muffled his garbled cries for help. "The skaa send their best regards," they spat, plunging the knife in again and again until Milon's body crumpled lifelessly to the floor. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ripply Gylf was an Inquisitor Soother! Mailliw73 was an Inquisitor Rioter! A quick note. I am ONLY counting the first red votes placed by each player, hence me asking for any retracted votes to be colored in green. Sorry for not being more clear on this Cycle One. Day 2 has begun! Again, I apologize for my irregular time schedules! Swinging from 2nd to 3rd shifts (and back, and then back again, etc.) is rough, but I still want to get the best possible write-up for all of you! Thank you to everyone for such a great start to the game and a huge Day 1 to pour over! Day 2 will end at exactly 10AM Friday, October 23rd! (Even if if takes a little longer to get the next thread up. That's why I promise to make sure each cycle lasts at least the full 2 days, to be fair for all players as possible in all time zones. Mid-Range Game 9: The Steel Ministry
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Apologies, but the cycle *IS* over (and has been for ~2hours or so >.>) So stay tuned and wait patiently for the next cycle! (Probably in about 2 hours or so ) Also, just a reiteration that there should be no need for Sanderson Elimination related game content on other parts of the forum. If there is a specific situation you feel needs addressed, please let the GM or Mods know so we can get it squared away without anything leaking over to the rest of the forum! Also, another big reminder. NO VOTE TALLIES OR VOTE EDITS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE CYCLE HAS ENDED, EVEN IF THE THREAD IS STILL OPEN!- 755 replies

Good question and interesting scenario! Flavor-wise, that'd make sense for them to cancel out, but for the purposes of these games, the Soothing would take priority.- 755 replies

Mid-Range Game 9: The Steel Ministry
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
A note that this game is Role Madness, so each players will have at least one power. Anything more than that will be PAFO, however. In terms of failed attacks (lurching/pewterarm occurs) then it will be noted that there was a failed attack, but not much else than that. (I'll try not make it obvious of how it failed). Skaa kills will appear distinctly in the write-ups though, as those are a quite different nature than being coinshot. Also, I will go ahead and apologize in advance, for my work schedule will probably seem very random, and the write-up times won't always be posted immediately. All cycles will last at least 48 hours, though, and I will do my best to keep it as consistent as possible.- 755 replies

Well it sure has been awhile, but seems like a good enough time to update this thread in the wake of Shadows of Self! I did pre-order the book and asked Brandon about this theory specifically, and received this answer: So we did see a decent bit of that during the soothing parlor scenes, and I think it was a great setup for it to be explored in future books.

Mid-Range Game 9: The Steel Ministry
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Dawn had greeted the Final Empire the same as it always had for hundreds of years, the dense and ever present mists slowly receded as the blighted red sun peaked it's head over the horizon and turning the sky an even more sinister shade of crimson. As always, ash continued to rain from the sky. Grim, on the other hand, had greeted dawn with sore muscles and stiff joints, the result of his dutiful work throughout the entire night. He burned pewter, the metal reserve in his stomach lighting up like a kindled fire, filling him with warmth and strength as his aches and pains vanished almost instantly. He also burned tin. Just a quick, light flare to jolt him with an intense wave of awareness, as the heightened sights, smells, and sounds crashed over him like a wave. It was best he not show any wariness in front of the Canton of Inquisitions newest recruits. Of course, it had been rough and bloody work. But such was the Art of Hemalurgy. The Lord Ruler's most coveted secret, and source of power for his most powerful and fearsome agents. People whispered in frightened huddles about the dreaded and terrible koloss, but nobody dared speak or gossip about an Inquisitor. Not if they valued their life, that was. However bleak and miserable it may be. He turned his back on the rising sun and headed back into the entrance of the cavern, a small fissure in the ground, one among many cave entrances in the complex Arguois caverns system here in the Central Dominance. This particular cave however had only one entrance and exit, as all others had been sealed off. Here it was where Grim's mission had gone it's undertaking. To raise and recruit a new class of Inquisitors. He had been pleasantly surprised at how many had willingly accepted the invitation, and had actually almost worried about not having not enough sacrifices for the ritual until a couple of volunteers with second thoughts tried backing out at the last minute. There was no refusing the Inquisition. "You have all been given great gifts!," he said to the recruits, his voice booming in the large cave, bouncing back off the jagged, rocky walls and repeating half a dozen times over. "Each of your powers have been supplemented, made stronger by the mercy and grace of The Lord Ruler, Sliver of Infinity. Now, you won't receive the full blessings of the Canton of Inquisition just yet....," he said with a sly grin, using his best unnerving gaze. He knew the eyespikes of the Inquisitors would continue instilling fear and paranoia into the hearts of the supplicants. Right up until the moment they were drilled into their own eye sockets and out the back of their skull. He let them all rest for now, so as to recover quickly so they could all soon be to training and testing. It was still a big Canton secret of how much rest an Inquisitor actually needed to maintain their stamina. Grim was awoken many hours later by a tremendous crashing sound that set the cavern walls shaking, sending pockets of dust and dirt to fall from the ceiling. He had his obsidian ax in his hand within a moment and was already flying through the air, burning iron and steel and pushing and pulling himself off a series of metallic brackets he had drilled into the cave walls at various intervals. His tattered mistcloak flailed around him as he rounded the corner and landed adroitly, burning tin to try and see through all of the dust that had been kicked up. It took him a moment to realize what was wrong, and that it was too dim in the cave. The entrance had been sealed off by a large rock somehow, and after a minute of his eyes adjusting to the cloudy darkness, his eyes full upon the two dead bodies near the cave entrance. Only they hadn't been crushed or killed by the falling rock or crash. He was plainly able to see the pools of blood forming out around their heads. Their eye and back spikes had been ripped out. The students had all awoken with the crashing sound as well, and they all slowly and groggily formed up behind up asking what happened and what to do next. Grim whirled on them in an instant. He knew that this could be a potential risk, the threat of skaa or skaa-sympathizers getting mixed in within the bunch somehow, and he had a back-up plan worked out for this. He let out a wild and savage laugh. Sometimes he loved his job, as what came next also happened to be his favorite part about his job. "What do we do next?" He said, repeating them. "Why, we have some more rough and bloody work to do!" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 1 Begins! Remember, NO Private Messages between players for the game! The Cycle will last 48 hours and will end at 4AM EST Wednesday October 21st! (Yeah, I know, GM has weird time schedules ) Also please try and remember to place your votes in Red and if you later retract them, color them in Green in the original post as well! Sign-ups will be open until 11:59PM, Sunday October 18th, Eastern Standard Timezone. (So, about ~19 hours from when this post is made). I will admit, my work/time schedule will be rather odd for most players, but I will make sure each Cycle lasts at least 48 hours. Extensions can be requested via PM with the GM, and will only be granted if multiple players from both teams are requesting such.) Or if the GM is busy/lazy from work.- 755 replies

Heirs to the Final Empire: Roleplaying Thread
Gamma Fiend replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Inactive RPs
Grace Urbain impatiently tapped her finger on her glass, the sharp sound of her painted nail rapping against the glass repeating rang throughout the room. "I'm bored." She declared to the empty room, holding her empty glass out to nobody. She seemed to have forgotten to hire a steward to wait on her. She sighed in irritation. She though being a House Lord would be more prestigious. More enticing. More.... something. Instead it was just dull reports and maintaining the 'Dignity of the Upper Echelon'. Whatever that meant. She just didn't think it'd be so.... dull. She did smile at the one little rumour going around regarding her run in with one of the mysterious Inquisitors. That had certainly not been dull. Her heart had even raced in a way she was sure had nothing to do with being rioted. She had to laugh at the notion that she was ambushed by the Inquisitor, or even nervous or terrified. In fact, it had all gone according to plan. But hey, if other houses wanted to gossip about such affairs, then who was she to discourage them? That was when she had a marvelous idea. She grabbed her mistcloak and flew off through the night into the mists. --- In the morning, as the mists departed, like in the fashion of her forefather Gamic, Grace had decided to host an affair that the nobility of Luthadel could not refuse. A marvelous ball, one to usher in the new generation and to showcase the wealth and grace of House Urbain. Or at least the notes embedded into the doors of each of the House Lords' manors said as much. Each note had been pinned onto a large metal spike and steelpushed into the doors with enough force to make sure they couldn't be easily pulled out. Or ignored. Grace had pinned a similar note on every single door of every single piece of property owned be her peers. And she personally knew that only one burning pewter would be strong enough to pull it out. Yes. She had hoped each and every fellow noble had gotten the message loud and clear. Action 1: Grace Urbain is hosting a ball! And you are all invited! Just please make sure to bring your personal invitation, fully in tact and not ripped or torn in any fashion. Such invitations will be declined, and the holder denied entry.- 868 replies

Mid-Range Game 9: The Steel Ministry
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Updates/Clarifications -Rioting players burning Metals that don't have targets other than themselves will still burn their Metal, (just will do so fervently), and still just target themselves. -Soothing a player -- while techinically taking place at the same time on the stack -- would prevent the targeted player from using their metal action, and thus not use up a use of their role. -Atium may or may not actually be added into the game, based entirely on the GM's whims and own discretion. It would take place before all other actions and kill anybody targeting them while burning it. -Metals can not be passed between players nor will there be any sort of mechanic that would let people restore their uses. You're not fully trusted Inquisitors yet! This was the 'invitation' being sent out to all of those who have earned notice or been deemed worthy. Only half of the invited are expected to return willingly, Grim knew. The ones that didn't would just be used in the required initiation rituals. Game Rules: Sign-ups will last a week, until sometime on Sunday, October 18th! Quick Links:

Bah. Almost forgot about this game, but glad to have it back and running! Hope all has been well, Wyrm! My 2nd Action of the Turn will be House Urbain making a generous gift of a shipment of Obsidian to the Inquisition, for their own personal use.- 868 replies

Well that looks like this game should be a wrap! Of course, many thanks to our dedicated GMs and all of our wonderful players for help making these games continue to be a thing! As always, if anyone would like to try your hand at running a game, please get a hold of Myself, Wilson or Meta. Not only will we get you added to the list, but I'm sure we'd be more than willing to help out in any way we can as well! You can also ask questions and get some hints and feedback from everyone over here in our Art of Game Creation thread as well. With all the games that we've run so far, we have plenty of experienced GMs that can help you refine any game you're thinking about!- 911 replies

Good question! Rioting someone who can't target other players with their Metal action will just basically make them burn their Metal normally, but with zeal! So in this case, the Gold player will learn they were targeted with Zinc, for example, so they've both still burned their Metals, which will be important for The Stack and other Effects. Will be updated in the rules!

It looks like I'm up to host the next MR game, so without further adieu, I present to you.... Welcome to The Lord Ruler’s Secret School of Inquisition and Hemalurgy! NO PMs in this game. And this game will be ‘Role-Madness’, where all players will have a role. The number of players in this game will of course directly affect how many uses each Role will have, as that's a lot of maths to take into account! But yeah, let me know what you think, or leave any questions/feedback! Sign-ups won't be immediately starting or anything, so no huge rush right now! Updates/Clarifications -Rioting players burning Metals that don't have targets other than themselves will still burn their Metal, (just will do so fervently), and still just target themselves. -Atium may or may not actually be added into the game, based entirely on the GM's whims and own discretion. Any rules regarding it will be clarified, however. (At a later time)

Mid-Range Game 8: Highborn Intrigue
Gamma Fiend replied to Renegade's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, gee, thanks, Assassin. I was planning on keeping my shardplate as my trick up my sleeve to try and have a lynch be wasted on me, so I could try and see if any Conspirators would take the chance and jump on the lynch train that seems to slowly be rolling into the station for me. >.> Speaking of, interesting it was only an assassin attack last night. O.o Does that mean inactivity on the eliminators, or feigned inactivity? Not entirely sure one way or another, but it might give us a chance to recover if we can get a good lynch through. Obviously my suspicions have been way off from the limited browsing of the game I've done. So no idea who to honestly vote for, and a lot has been going on so I just haven't had as much time as I'd like to to be able to actually dedicate to this game, but I will try get a vote in later this cycle, as I dont want to get one in now if I can't retract or change it later. Edit: Also going to have to come up with some magnificent RP to follow up that write-up with! Manky kudos, Glorious GM!- 911 replies

Mid-Range Game 8: Highborn Intrigue
Gamma Fiend replied to Renegade's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well that doesn't make things look too good. >.> I'll have to re-look through the thread, as those two were some of my suspects, so my radar is just way off. Going to call out a vote on Alvom now though, so we can at least get some sort of lynch/discussion going. For past reasons mentioned, and to basically follow through with the tied lynch the other day, which could possibly have been tied up to save you, perhaps? I'll need to look back at the tallies once I get some sleep.- 911 replies

Mid-Range Game 8: Highborn Intrigue
Gamma Fiend replied to Renegade's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yeah, I never understood why we went from Lopen and Alvom one lynch cycle to a runaway vote on Haelbarde on the next one, honestly. >.> From the minor skimming of the main thread I've made, it does look like Lopen kind of putzed around on the initial voting swing against Hero a cycle or two before he was finally lynched, which could be another possible indication of being an eliminator, not sure though. Adamir was also pinging the suspicion radar a little bit, but not more than a gut feeling really. I honestly don't have too much in the way of deep-thread analysis or vote breakdowns or any of that, that was always more Wilson's style than mine. Might try and find some time for RP in a little bit before the roll-over, but we'll see, got some other things been coming up. :/- 911 replies

Mid-Range Game 8: Highborn Intrigue
Gamma Fiend replied to Renegade's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Wish I could have gotten on sooner to be able to actually post something, although it looks like the votes are already in Hael's favor with seemingly no opposition, so not really sure what to make of that. So I could either bandwagon on the vote and make it a run away, but I'll instead just put a vote on Alvom for now. I've had a gut feeling about them since re-reading through the earlier thread, and it seems like other people have too, just there's never been a follow through on the lynch for them yet. Which is something we should probably start doing??? How many tied or shardplate lynches have their been? And how many times have people just moved on to other targets the next cycle? If people were up for the lynch, being the most suspected players at the time, then why do we just ignore them afterwards?- 911 replies

Mid-Range Game 8: Highborn Intrigue
Gamma Fiend replied to Renegade's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I know I'd like to apologize for not being able to get on here before now. :/ Basically been working/sleeping too much lately, lol. But yeah, that lynch was rather uninformative, as all we really learned is Lopen doesn't want to die. I do hope some of the inactives come back out of the woodworks soon, though. Assuming I survive the night, hopefully I can get on in the morning and actually get a constructive post going.- 911 replies
