  1. If there were some kind of artificial sentient beeings (For example smart computers and stuff like that), would they contain investiture (nicrosil storing it, holding some breaths and obeying commands), or would they be able to use the "magical arts" instead? (Commanding breaths, burning metal, forging, etc)
  2. I have to admit that I find the idea interesting, and the worldbuild is someway original, but I will point that sometimes the narration seems quite subjective (when it says the emperor's distraction, for example), or that you put us in the whole thing almost in the first paragraph. An upvote isn't a reward for any kind of work, but it's the only thing that I can give to you
  3. Absolutely agreed. Thanks Joe for this giveaway.
  4. I'm in too. Can it be out of US? I live in Europe.
  5. I never get it right =/ Sorry again.
  6. Actually, you are much or less on the right line talking about giving breath to lifeless, since they can store it but aren't able of giving them back. This can be because of it's residual sDNA or because lifeless are made of bodies that were once alive, so they are able to some special interactions. But for what we know, they can't use magic actively. Maybe they aren't smarter enough, maybe they aren't able of it, or maybe I'm just wrong, but I think they aren't able to burn metals, even coming from allomancers. Has someone it's own thoughts about this? Combination of powers? A nalthian mistborn. Wow, that would be just awesome, beeing able to store imbestiture in metals and then burning them. It isn't know what would happen, but surely has some special effects. Or maybe a forger with Shallan's/Jasnah's surge. I don't remember its name, but imagine what kind of things could you do having that control over the cognitive aspect of things. I would take that one.
  7. Alloy of Law ^^ For what we know, it will be much or less the same than the first one, so shorter than any of the original trilogy.
  8. Thanks again. It's sometimes hard to remember all the quotes that have been said.
  9. Until the moment that you put that spoiler ther, I have to admit that the theory was coherent. But if Endowment has a Shardpool too, then it's not hard to figure out that mostly shards may have it. That leads me to a question, by the way: Would Sazeth (Harmony) have one shardpool, or two? Talking about Sazed, I think that he's actually in advantage to everyone else, even Endowment. He's standing alone now, stronger than Odium. I think that the most important world of the 4 known will be Scadrial. And so far, the metallic arts (all of them) is the most universal magic, since it can be used everywhere where there's accesible metals. And back to the nightwatcher, the thing of watching doesn't really mean anything to me, remember that Shards have a different perspective of the phhysic realm. And maybe Cultivation is neutral. Letting alone that we know that it's alive and that is probably the one who talks to Kal in dreams, I insist that nothing is known about this shard or it's holder. Maybe it uses one of the Rosharian's magic systems, then you know, Brandon loves restricting magic. Or maybe is just some kind of balance. And thanks for the info Windrunner!
  10. Odium is not tied to Roshar. For what we know, he's tied in a world near to it, but not in Roshar itself. I'm not doing anything there, it's just for avoiding confusion I find the points of view exposed there so much interesting, by the way.
  11. Hum. First of all, and having on count that as much of the people who is there I've read some Brandon's unpubished works, I can definitely say that Shards tend to have their own plan. If we list: Preservation has a plan to counter Ruin, Ruin has a plan to destroy Scadrial, Honor had a plan, Odium has a plan. On the other hand, Endowment doesn't seem to (that's true), and we don't know absolutely anything about Aona and Skai, while Sazed is, in my opinion, too young as Shardholder as for doing much more than just beeing more aware of the Cosmere as the time passes and taking care of his own world. Ah, and Cultivation, that is for me almost as unknown as Domination and Devotion. In addition, in the unpublished works they do too, but I'm not counting them (Of course), since they are unpublished, and they are not canon. So we got 4 that have (plus thus that don't count), 2 that don't seem to, and 3 that we don't know about. And Bavadin, but since he's in an unpublished world, I'm not counting him neither (but he seems to have something with Odium or, at least, against Hoid) That's why I said that they tend to, and not they have all a master plan. I have to admit, anyways, that you are right when you say that we have only seen shardpools of shards that aren't in a good moment, having cognitive problems. But we don't know how Cultivation is at all.
  12. I thought you would say "sexy", you know. The only think I don't like of the book is that The fight of Wirrhun and Bremer is obvious almost since the book starts. But yeah, I admit that Abercrombie works with the characters as well that they seem just real. And using them into not a war, but a battle (more or less) was a smart move having on count his style. And I love Koska, he doesn't appear in the Heroes, but he's in Dagoska first, then in Talins and I know he's in "red country" too. I just cannot wait for the translation. By the way, hasn't no one else read the books? Come on! Post something.
  13. Maybe it sounds quite redundant, but a friend of mine mailed Brandon, and I told him to ask about the theory in a very indirect way (He asked if the nightwatcher is able to move through the valley), but he RAFO'ed that and said that we would be able to know about it before the end of the first arc (fifth book I guess). Really, nothing new there. We already know about Dalinar and the Nightwatcher, and Dalinar's book is the fifth one. I hope to remember about this post when we know more about it
  14. I will take Galladon too. Devoted farm dude from Duladel who becames Elantrian while the Reod and stills as friendly as your old farmer grandpa. Yay. P.S: I'm really curious about how he ended into the 17thshard troops. Maybe we don't know the Dula so good, or maybe the 17thshard isn't as dark as we seem to figure out, but I think that it doesn't fit for how is he shown in Elantris. Sure we will have to wait, kolo?
  15. Have to admit that this is the first forum where I notice an active reputation system. Congratulations for who had the idea, in almost all the forums the reputations is given by the number of posts and the number of answers that they get. Definitely funnyer this way.
  16. Maybe it's because I'm still so new to these forums, but reputation doesn't mean anything for me yet. But as I can guess that it's important for people, I give a possitive to the posts I like or I find interesting in some way. Or for charity, just like there. P.S: Of course kidding about the last one. I think that this is not in this forum's polythics, but if someone wants points ask for them. Trainee is a good position for me.
  17. +1. Now you can figure it out with that precious +4
  18. Without reading Dragonsteel, what we all know was that Hoid was there when Adonalsium shattered. He refers to the shardholders, in the letter, as if he knew some of them. He is the only person from Yolen (letting shardholders apart, and maybe the third person of the 17thshard in the Purelake) that we have seen around. If he was an ordinary person from Yolen (Yolish?), why aren't there more as him around? Probably there are, but not in a meaningful number or people would start to have constance of them. Of course, all what I'm saying is pure speculation, most of it baseless. But we are off-toping the off-topic, so I won't say more about it, as for the Adonalsium's opposite force. If we don't know much of the first one, let out the second one. As for the intents, I agree that whatever Adonalsium was, it's holder or Adonalsium itself was free of intent (if not, that would be perfect balance, and I don't think so), But 2 of 16 Shards, even beeing opposites and countering each other, is not a meaningful number (yes a meaningful power in the actual Cosmere), Pretty sure that the time and BS will show who of all of us is right, but I still thinking that Harmony has an intent, but a less imperative one. It cannot change Sazed as hard as a single shard, but it still does something. If not, we would have a smaller version of Adonalsium (which it actually is, but not in the way I mean). Before letting the text out, I want to insist on everyone that I'm not confirming anything, just speculating
  19. Hmm, while this isn't a confirmation of anything, as we are all crazy theorist of that kind of stuff, this can be interpreted (and just interpreted, it's impossible to base something from this quote) as Sazed beeing stronger than Adonalsium's opposite force. By the way, I'm one of those who thinks that Harmony, as all the shards, has it's own intent, but that is weaken enough as to affect its holder in a extremely slow way, since Preservation and Ruin are opposites. Or it doesn't take efect at all, but I don't think so. If the intent wasn't there, why didn't Hoid just take two opposite shards and use them as he's using all that cosmere stuff? It has to be an intent.
  20. Hmmm... forgery is a magic system, though. Maybe I'm off-toping a bit, but (for example) if a Selish forged a Scadrian to rewrite it's history and make him visit the well of the ascension and eat Lerasium, wouldn't that be plausible? The problem is that we don't know yet how do the magic systems of different planets act between them. But if hemalurgy can steal an hability, I can imagine a soul stamp (a complex one) able to do that. Backing on the topic, I find the idea of the atium beeing the door of Shadesmar interesting. But if I'm not wrong BS said that we haven't yet all the keys for knowing how it works and, over all, we are missing something important that we still don't know. Interesting anyways +1 Edit: Absolutely right. memory colapse. Thanks Kurkistan.
  21. I haven't read Red Country yet, but The Heroes is one of the best novels I have read. While the editorial has to include it in the fantasy genre because of the world setting when the magic isn't almost there, he works as well with the characters that I really enjoyed those 3 days of battle. By the way, if someone liked the three standalone novels written by Abercrombie, I highly recomend reading "The prince of nothing" saga, which starts with "The darkness that comes before". The characters are pure art works, and you love and hate some of them at the same time.
  22. Malaz is, and no exceptions there, the most complex world I have read about. I recently finished Midnight Tides, and I can say that only a genius is able to create such a big world. Maybe the second book is quite confusing but, trust me, the third one worths the whole saga. And the fourth too. That said I'm not encouraged enough as to read Reaper's Gale in english (I'm not native) so I have to wait until the translation comes out. My question is, for those who finished the saga: Is the second middle of the saga as good as the first one?
  23. If Nalthian objects could be manipulated to become Shadesmar portals, wouldn't forgery be able to take them from their actual state to that one? Crazy speculation there.
  24. Maybe I am way wrong, but if my memory doesn't fail, Kelsier was able to hold the power of a shard (or at least contain it) once his physical body was out. Have I missed something there?
  25. Sazed becoming the hero of the ages, without any doubt. In spanish, there's not the neutral term of "it" so the prophecy talked about "him". I couldn't get it until it happened. By the way: You got the reputation point with that. I laughed so much
