  1. I don't think that this is correct. The main fact that made mistsickness notable as unnatural was that it was exactly 16% of any given group. There was no random variation at all, in any group, which means that the 16% must have been chosen when they entered the Mists, not at birth. (HoA ch. 21)
  2. I exported them as SVG files (zip attached). This introduced several (almost negligible) bugs, mostly corners being stepped and the dots becoming noticeably circles, but it is overall much better. I also made the lines thinner, as they no longer disappear into the background. As for transparent backgrounds, sorry, but that is beyond me/my settings. I had no good way of exporting the images to a usable format, so I simply took a screenshot, cropped it, and used that, which resulted in the poor image quality and limited the resolution. Even if vector art isn't used, I can get much better quality by using it as an intermediate step (see attached images for comparison) Aons batch 1.zip
  3. I recently made and uploaded images of several of the Aons, and I'm looking for feedback. You can find them here. I also have Aon, Ala and Deo, but didn't overwrite the existing images. Specific things that I am looking for: 1. What is the best filetype/resolution to upload them as? They are currently (mostly) 640x640 .gif files. 2. Where else should these images go? 3. Should I replace the current images for Aon, Ala and Deo? 4. How do they look (image quality)? Should I make the lines thicker/thinner, or any other suggestions? 5. How do they look (artistically/mechanically)? Have I made any mistakes in their construction, even minor ones? (Daa and Ata excepted, I will fix those) Some background info: I am constructing these in a CAD program (archimedes), not a vector art program (like Adobe Illustrator), which adds some limitations. They are quite easy (and quick) to construct from copying, moving, flipping, and rotating the base Aon, which fits the magic quite well. With four exceptions (Ala, Aha, Eshe and Mea), every Aon has exactly one unmodified (not rotated or flipped) Aon. When I get around to it, it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to finish the rest in the same style. Be critical, it's the only way it'll improve.
  4. Based on the last section, I'd say that it is: Note that this is all just speculation based off of a sentence or two. It would be cool, but it's probably not quite right.
  5. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, so I'm still not convinced that "not seeing" can be recorded.
  6. Allomancer is a more general term, referring to anyone that can use allomancy. There are 16 types of mistings, 1 type of mistborn for a total of 17 types of allomancers. I'm not sure about the term feruchemist here though, it could refer to either someone with all of the powers (equivalent to mistborn), or anyone that can use feruchemy (equivalent to allomancer). As for the 1024 year refill, I'm tempted to think that it was done for plot reasons (instead of 256 or 4096 years) because two hundred years is too short for the formation of an empire, and its enduring stability to be noticeable. On the other hand, 4000 years seems too long for artifacts and memories to survive. One interesting thing about 1024 is that it is halfway between 256 (16^2) and 4096 (16^3) on a logarithmic scale. I'm not sure how/if it is significant, but it is something.

    Marsh

I think that Marsh (instead of a Mistborn) could have been chosen as Ruin's favourite Inquisitor for a few reasons: 1. He helped bring down the Lord Ruler, and this is his reward. He was instrumental in the plan to bring down the Lord Ruler by infiltrating the Ministry, killing the other Inquisitors, and directly fighting against him. This is very good from Ruin's point of view, as TLR needed to die for Ruin to be freed. 2. His psychology lines up very closely with Ruin's intent. He hates the obligators with a strong passion, and killed the Inquisitors before attacking the Lord Ruler. These seem like traits/actions that Ruin would like. 3. He has a weaker connection to Preservation than a Mistborn Inquisitor does. Being Mistborn implies a much stronger bond to Preservation than being a Misting, and Ruin would presumably not like someone who is strongly linked to his polar opposite.
  8. The problem with viewing 1024 as hexadecimal, is that it isn't a very special number anymore. 16^2 (written as 100 in hexadecimal) is 256, and 16^3 (written as 1000 in hexadecimal) is 4096. 4 * 16^2 is 1024, but it is written as 400 in hexadecimal, which is not a very special number. For binary, 2^10 (written as 10000000000 in binary) is 1024. The number written as 10000000000 (in binary) seems more special to me than 400 (in hexadecimal).
  9. I always thought that Sadeas was his given name, and Torol was his house name, and that it wasn't ever used in order to give the reader a more consistent name to remember him by. I can't think of how to make a glyphpair (eg. Kholin = khohk + linil IIRC) out of Sadeas, but Torol could work (torot + rolor ?). For Brightness vs. Brightlady, I understood Brightness to be an honorific (like Sir, miss, mister, her Highness, etc...) and Brightlady to be the associated title (like Knight, etc...).
  10. New idea: Connection -> Connection to Sazed (or Ati, Leras, Preservation, or Ruin, depending) -> become better at the Metallic Arts? Pretty sure that this could not work, as anyone who would figure it out could potentially become quite powerful. I think that Emotion storing (which seems more Mental to me) would need to be very constrained, or else it would break the careful balance required of Feruchemy. Most emotions have opposites as they are commonly described (happy/sad, love/hate, like/dislike, fear/courage, suspicion/credulity). This would result in the feruchemist getting nearly infinite amounts of an emotion by storing its opposite (It's not really that simple, but it's a close approximation). Allowing practically free benefits goes against the mechanics of Feruchemy.
  11. An alternate explanation to him being a Lerasium Mistborn + Savant, or that Using the WoA automatically gives amazing power is that the Lord Ruler used the power in the Well to change himself to have stronger abilities than even the original Allomancers. He could easily have foreseen the need to fight to unite the world and be strong enough to survive 1000 years, and changed himself to be able to achieve his goals.
  12. My guesses (with explanations): 1. Connection (given) Tapping Connection allows you to feel strong empathy to all around you. This does not directly affect others, but allows you to act in an appropriate way to affect them instead. Storing it makes you inconsiderate of others' emotions, and results in severe narcissism. 2. Soul sensing (Warbreaker's Lifesense) Basically, you can sense more things (spiritually) while tapping this, and are somewhat oblivious to anything with a soul (eg. a person, maybe animals) while storing it. 3. Presence Changes you to have a stronger force of personality and, as well as making you stand out from a crowd while tapping. Makes you dull, dismissed, and forgotten while storing. Very good for distractions, sneaking, and forming cults. 4. Chronesthesia (Wikipedia link) Tapping this gives you insight into a moment in the future, but only accounting for things that you already know/can figure out (it isn't a god metal). Storing it sends your mind back in time, allowing you to re-experience a past moment and form new memories from it. Somewhat overlaps with Copper for memories. It was difficult coming up with three new spiritual attributes that worked for both storing and for tapping metalminds. Some of my ideas that I couldn't work out well enough: out-of-body experiences (vs. very-inside-of-body experiences?), becoming incorporeal (vs. being supercorporeal?), Willpower (too mental, also it would be next to impossible to store), Wisdom/judgment/discretion (again, too mental).
  13. Aha! I thought I remembered this passage from somewhere: WoK Ch. 7, pp118 Hardcover It's very possible that this general knowledge is wrong, but it's still something.
  14. True, I should have said "crystal/glass/quartz" or something similar to refer to all the substances that Diamond can soulcast things into. It cannot create any of the ten gemstones, which is what I was referring to.
  15. The Feruchemist gains that velocity. As Musicspren pointed out, the example may require a pewter/iron twinborn to do as described, but it is physically sound. Yes, that would be much easier, but it would require you to have wings along. Also, the point of that example wasn't practicality, it was to illustrate what taking the system to its logical conclusions entails. Flying with wings is hardly novel, but when is the last time you heard of the ability of flight being gained by holding inert weights?
  16. Parshendi could be the flesh (or blood) elementals, but I doubt it. They are much more complex than Thunderclasts or Midnight Essence, present long before the Desolation begins, and seem natural. This still doesn't prevent them from being the Voidbringers, we just don't know what that term means yet. Chasmfiends do not fit here at all, either as crystal/glass elementals, or larval Thunderclasts. Their gemheart is not crystal (which Diamonds can soulcast things into), it is a gem (which is magical). Thunderclasts are pure stone without any organic parts, which would make for a very difficult metamorphosis. I think that the Chasmfiends are completely separate from the Desolations.
  17. Two monsters that we know to be present in Desolations are Thunderclasts and Midnight Essence. They are made out of stone and smoke, respectively. I think that we will see the rest of the gems represented as well, in monsters made of metal, air, crystal, wood, fire, oil, blood, and flesh. Note that the Parshendi and Chasmfiends do not fit into this group at all. I think that these elemental creations are the main forces of the Desolation's armies. The Voidbringers are probably the Parshendi, but having them be the elemental monsters fits as well. Having most of the forces of a Desolation hidden away, waiting to be released makes more sense to me than all of them hiding in plain sight as Parshmen and Parshendi, as there simply aren't enough of them to cause mass destruction like a Desolation is, even if they each fight with the strength of ten men. So, what do you think? A Parshendi led army of elemental monsters, or something else?
  18. I was thinking the ratio would be higher, either 8:1, or 16% (~6:1). 16:1 was my other guess, but that seems too high to allow Wax to have lifted his arms above his head at 100x mass. 4:1 or even 2:1 would work as well, we just don't have enough details yet. Yup, funny the way that evidence does that.
  19. There is also the "sentence start" punctuation. It can be found in the image on the wiki page linked in the first post.
  20. That would have some interesting implications. No Drab could ever become a Returned, and if an Awakener dies without giving up Breath, they could last for years on their stockpile alone. This would not be obvious at all, as anyone who would Return while having extra Breath would be in an area that supports them, and it is very hard to notice anyone not returning. This makes collecting Breath slightly more murky, morally.
  21. I seem to remember someone saying that stone bridges cannot be constructed the same way as wooden ones, because of structural differences. If the bridges were changed into metal instead, it might work. This would also decrease the weight of siege bridges considerably, especially if they could turn it into aluminum or titanium instead of steel. One more thought to consider: Does siege weaponry exist? I don't know if battles are fought over fortresses, every one that we see is on an open plain. Besieging a building would take a long time, and they would only need to defend until the next Highstorm, unless you build a city of stone barracks to attack from. This leads me to believe that there are no large weapons that require multiple people to use on Roshar, because it was never used, and would not be practical.
  22. From WoK hardcover, pp 448 (Interlude 6)
  23. Lashing does not need to be to a specific thing, it can be done in any direction just as easily IIRC. As for the theory, I think that Stormlight can only add energy (bonds, gravity, transformation etc...) in its magic, and that Voidbinding has all of the opposites. This fits well with Voidbinding's destructive connotations, as taking all of the adhesion away from a rock would turn it to dust, and doing it to a person would melt them. I don't think that your Jasnah/Shallan thought is right either. It doesn't seem like Shallan's powers work better starting with the ten essences, but she does change the goblet into one of them. I would be surprised if opposed powers were not present somewhere, but I don't think that it happens within surgebinding.
  24. The best way I would see the controls working is a talent based system. Over time, you would learn more and more advanced techniques combining different metals and actions. For example, you could start with basic talents like a Steeljump, where you drop a coin, then push off of it into the air, and later learn to push enemies (that are wearing metal), brace yourself, deflect swords and (some) arrows, shoot coins, and combine it with iron effectively. Pewter could be both a "boost" mode, where you do everything better, as well as a resource used up by some talents. Tin would work similarly to Pewter, being used some by talents, and some by a toggleable extra senses mode. Bronze could be integrated into the UI, at first as a text box/indicator light, later as an overlay. Copper would be a straight on/off stealth mechanic. I think that the game would need to increase its burning rate if it wanted to make it an actual decision. Brass and Zinc could see limited use in combat, mostly for crowd control (taunting and making enemies back off, as well as rallying allies). They would probably mostly be used in conversations. Steel and Iron would be hard to do well, as they are the flashiest and most unique parts of Mistborn. I'm not sure what the setting would be, I would like to see it set in Luthadel about 50-500 years before the books, so as not to be interacting with material from them too much.
  25. I just realized that there is an alternative to our assumption that change in physical strength needs to be either directly proportional to mass or else nonexistent. A simple system where (for example) reducing your mass by 50% leads to losing 5% of your strength, and gaining an extra 100x mass leads to 10x extra strength would fit with all of the examples in this thread. A ratio of 10x mass to 1x strength would work, along with anything in that range. This would still conserve energy (doesn't violate Feruchemical properties), make people slower when tapping iron and quicker while filling it (feel heavy/light, be lighter on their feet or weighted down), and still allow mobility at the ends of the spectrum (Wax lifting his arms at 100x mass, as well as being more responsive/lighter on his feet at 75%). It also avoids the direct contradictions that both sides could not adequately explain. This brings my opinion to: Mass/density (not weight/acceleration due to gravity) In addition to full material strength, some physical strength, as well, but not all of it. Velocity is conserved when changing mass while moving, not momentum. My main contention with conserving momentum doesn't fit into arguments well: It requires a more intelligent system than Feruchemy for it to work as expected. It would need to: 1. Conserve velocity inside of the body (to avoid feruchemist explosions, blood flow etc...), 2. Conserve momentum outside of the body (by definition) 3. Shift its reference point intelligently (to avoid flying to the front/back of trains or off the planet) Feruchemy is not that complex, I could accept it if it was Allomancy, but Feruchemy is simpler than that for every other metal. Even though velocity conservation breaks physics more, it is simpler.
