Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Claincy replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
@Mistrunner Given a choice between safe but boring and interesting but risky I'd advice going for the risky option. Particularly when you're young I think it's better to try for what you really want to do than to settle for something you know won't ever make you happy. You don't want to spend the next few years wondering if you would have succeeded and wishing you had tried. Worst case scenario if you try is that you fail, which sucks, but you learn a lot on the way. You work a boring job for a while if you need to and then you try again using the experience you gained in your last attempt. Remember that what you decide to do now isn't setting the course for the entire remainder of your life, just the immediate future. From what I recall our generation is expected to (on average) pursue around 3 (or more) different careers over the course of our lives. -

Because you hate the idea of letting people down? Which is a great trait so long as it doesn't prevent you from taking care of yourself or it makes you feel down on yourself. When you aren't up to working taking the day off is certainly the right move. Unfortunately I haven't found that feeling of guilt leaving over time. I still feel like I'm letting people down when I'm not up to going in to work on a day, particularly when I have to postpone meetings as a result. (Incidentally, I had to do so today ) Fortunately for me my work hours are extremely flexible, most of my work I can do from home & the people I work with are very understanding and accepting of my health issues. -

Thanks, there are still some things I could try that have a chance of working Good luck! ___ For another Good News thing: I've been wanting to make a video game about Chronic illness for a long time (since before I got sick in fact!). A design finally fully clicked for me recently and I intend to start making it in the near future -

Yep. From what you've said in the past I think the cause is likely different but the result is somewhat similar. Most people with headache issues do seem to have frequent severe headaches rather than a fluctuating constant one and that is what most people assume when you talk about chronic headaches. For me the suspected cause is sinus issues. -

Frustrating issue that basically means I have a headache that has lasted years. Better sometimes, worse others but the last couple of weeks were particularly bad. Today it was just painful instead of moderately crippling -

I felt "bad" today. Which was a distinct improvement! (Claincy has not been having the best time healthwise for the last couple of weeks/3 and a half years.) -
Yep

Acquisitions Incorporated (session recordings, very silly but fun) Dice Camera Action (session recordings) itmeJP (many many session recordings, I haven't actually watched much of them though) Jorphdan (Forgotten Realms lore if it interests you) WebDM (discussion channel) Nerdarchy (mixed discussion and session recordings) Dungeonmaster Mark (doesn't upload much now but there's some reasonably good stuff there) Drunkens & Dragons (general) Dungeonmaster Johnny (general) Wyloch's crafting Vids (crafting) Black Magic Craft (crafting) Some of these I've watched a lot of, others only a little *shrug*. See what interests you

Fairly briefly because I need sleep soon: -facial animations are substandard -the writing is rather dull at points +the writing is rather excellent at other points. In general I've found the dialogue surrounding squad members really good and a lot of the side story dialogue decent->good but some of the main plot parts misses the mark +the combat is a lot of fun, the jump packs can behave erratically on occasion but it's not too common. +It feels most like a spiritual successor to the first mass effect. The exploration pillar is significantly better than it has ever been. +There is a lot of content, but -some of it can get a little samey. Fortunately you really don't need to do everything. +Multiplayer is also a lot of fun. I spent more time in me3's mp than the sp campaign in the end and mea's mp is basically an iteration on that. There isn't too much content for it yet but there's about the same amount as there was at launch for me3 and if the post-launch support is at all similar there is plenty more to come. +The conversation system is vastly improved by replacing Paragon/Renegade with Emotional/Logical/Casual/Professional +Ryder (I've only played as Sara so I can't speak for Scott) has a lot more character than Sheppard did imo and is more dynamic and varied. Sheppard's tough nice guy or tough nasty guy was fun and all but I'm very much enjoying playing as someone who is way less experienced and (depending on dialogue choices) might be somewhat struggling to handle the job she's been landed with. Succeeding of course, but there's more depth here I feel. It also allows you to roleplay much better as a more complicated individual which is excellent. -Planet and system scanning is just as dull as in previous games, they still haven't found a way to make it fun in any lasting way. +/-Looking out your window in the Tempest and seeing the system/planet you are near feels so good. The travelling animations are cool at first but get a little tiresome though. +The tempest is a nice ship, I like it better than the Normandy in how it's designed and your squad mates move around it more and converse with eachother. No loading screens are nice but loading doors while better are still irritating at times. +Everyone on the ship has decent->really good characterisation and can be conversed with like a squad mate, no engineers with a tiny smattering of dialogue this time round. (Not that I disliked the lesser crew in previous games but I appreciate a smaller number of more fleshed out characters.) +While I said the main story writing was mixed the actual plot details and setting I'm totally on board with, it's just the dialogue that doesn't make it at times. -Boss level enemies can still trigger instant-kill animations which is usually easily avoidable but still annoying when it happens. -/+There are bugs aside from animation that can be frustrating at times but they were fairly infrequent. I've had the game crash once in what's now probably 30-40 hours or so. Overall I'm really enjoying it. (Not so brief, oh well. This doesn't cover everything but eh, it's enough.) Edit: To note, I did really enjoy me3 personally though I don't deny it had flaws. The characters (and mp) made it all worth it to me. -
Matthew Colville makes some really good videos. Hasn't done campaign diaries recently but his other videos are good too. I don't actually regularly watch any other game diary or live play channels. (Time! :'( ) I can recommend a couple of session recording channels/series or a number of general D&D channels if you like?

(It's really good :P) I would try not to worry too much, be mindful of how you act and you're generally ok. When you are unsure about something often the best option is to just ask the DM and/or another player. I'm perfectly happy to answer questions as I can I just don't know what you're group is like

Good game *thumbs up*. And Dragonfall is considerably better, same mechanics but they nailed the story and characters way better the second time round. --- I'm currently playing Mass Effect Andromeda. Yeah the conversation animations are bad, but they aren't a dealbreaker to me, I'm loving the game. -
It does depend a little on the group but in general I'd say certainly. If a specific action is going to hurt other players' (or the GM's) enjoyment of the game then it's best to avoid it. But generally so long as your character fits with the style of game you're playing that's fairly easy to avoid. (If you're playing a murderhobo in a serious campaign you'll obviously run into trouble.) If you do it all the time it can start to mess up the game for other players, but now and then it can really add to it. In my experience in most campaigns it's good to have some fun recklessness and silliness some of the time, especially if it reinforces one of the characters. Moments like that can also end up being some of the most memorable. Grog from Critical Role is a great example of doing this well, such as his "haggling". Edit: I have a player in my current campaign that is a warlock of the great old ones who can't speak out loud, just laugh. And communicates by sending messages into nearby people's minds. He also makes frequent references to other planes and views eyeballs as a currency. He's also mad. All of that is a recipe that could easily combine to be a destructive force to the campaign. (This campaign is moderately serious, plenty of room for silliness but there is serious stuff going on and murderhoboing will not end well.) However, the player is clever about how he plays it. He often freaks people out a little by speaking into their minds but only rarely causes major silliness & disruptions. He channels it into his own brand of silly humour, often at his character's expense, that just makes the game more fun and dynamic. He doesn't try to steal the spotlight from other players with it either. I like my players

D&D player psychology tip: if there is something shiny at the bottom of a mysterious and possibly dangerous pond, *someone* will dive in. ... They survived, but they had a good scare first

Today was exhausting, but good. For over a year now I've been working on an app called "Monash Rocks" for the Monash Earth Sciences Garden (not full time, but considerable amounts over the course of the project). We held the official launch event today and it went well We've still got a couple of major bugs to fix, a number of smaller bugs and tweaks to make and an android build to test and deploy but I'm very happy with what our team has made The only part of the app that actually requires being on location is the part that displays where you are in the rock garden and directs you to specific rocks. The information, Augmented Reality components and virtual sea floor all work anywhere. Edit: realised I should have attached the markers for launching the AR components just in case anyone decided to take a look (Also to be clear, this is an educational app, there's nothing monetised about it. I just wanted to share ) -
Finished it now. It definitely improves as it goes on. Personally I'd rate it above Luke Cage and Daredevil season 2 but we'll below Daredevil S1 and Jessica Jones. I do appreciate that they made the Hand actually threatening and fairly compelling after the mess they were in Daredevil S2.

I apologise in advance: "Over the hills and far away, Teletubbies ccome to play. And then the murders began." "Bananas in pajamas are coming down the stairs. And then the murders began."

Some parallels to the first season of Arrrow. I mean, rich guy who's been away and presumed dead for years suddenly returns and happens to be a crime fighting badass. Who can also be a bit of an chull and has some issues integrating with normal society. Pursuing a vigilante quest against a shadow organisation. I can see why people would draw comparisons but watching them they feel quite different to me.

I'm only 2 episodes in so far so I don't know how I'll feel once I've seen the rest. So far imo it's eh. It's not outright bad it just isn't all that good so far either. Personally I think the first season of Daredevil was very good, Jessica Jones was slightly better and Luke Cage and the second season of Daredevil were decidedly average. The punisher was very well done but I don't feel the rest of the season came anywhere near that standard. (I am aware that that doesn't exactly line up with common opinions.)

Today one of my players was taking a shot as DM to run a single session. He did well Aaand I got to play as a singing bard, literally singing when I cast spells or inspiration. So that was rather scary, but great all the same -
Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Claincy replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Slightly awkward digital hugs all round. @Djarskublar I've tried the emotion suppression thing and I don't recommend it. Control can be good, suppression not so much. By control I mean more: accept the emotion, recognise it, understand the reason you feel that way and then distance yourself from it if you decide it's unhelpful. Simply bottling it up works for a time but doesn't end well in the long run. Do you have any personal projects you're working on or that you would like to do? Be that designing a game, writing a book, making something crafty, drawing a comic, etc. Something with a specific goal and measurable progress. Even when work and all is going well I find creative outlets like that essential. -

Does your school have a welfare officer or similar? It's sounding like it might be about time to escalate who you're talking to about the problem. (Bullying really sucks.) -
