The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
Stardust replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
A dragon. A Lights Cursed dragon. How had it turned into a witherbound? Ennalee was growing tired. Her sword seemed to weigh more than it had before. Each thrust was straining her. They were fighting back, however. The small band of adventurers that were left fought valiantly against the withergeists, pressing towards the door. They needed her to fight, she knew. But she was so tired... Logic said she couldn't do any more. She knew that. She trusted in the logic. A few people, such as 9/10, hadn't left yet, though they clearly could have. They were helping. She couldn't let any of them down. Logic... the voice whispered. Logic is flawed. It may provide the path, but you must provide the reason. The reason to care. The reason to fight. Without it... you will fail, no matter how hard you try. Ennalee was so tempted to listen to the voice. But logic had never failed her. She swung her sword back around to pierce a witherbound, the steps practically rote to her. Step. Step. Thrust. Dodge. Swing. Shuffle back. Thrust. Go for the finishing blow. The methodic sway of the battle provided a sort of calm to Ennalee, even as the dragon sprayed another blast of bubbling black tar. She found a sort of clear headedness in the chaos. Logic may say I can't do more. SO THE LOGIC MUST CHANGE. Something warped, and Ennalee split. A second version of herself, looking the exact same, wielding a pristine white blade. The logic matches now. The voice said eagerly. Huh. Ennalee thought. 9/10 was right. The voice in my head is smart sometimes. And even though the way things happened made her head hurt, she began to fight back with a renewed energy, the duplicate of her charging forward to face the dragon.- 111800 replies

So, I was wondering, when Radiants swear Oaths, do they all receive a massive outpouring of Stormlight in that moment? We know from Kaladin, Lopen, and Huio that all Windrunners do. However, this does not happen with Shallan. In Shadesmar, she never received a bunch of stormlight, despite swearing her Fourth Ideal. To back up this fact, at the start of WaT, Shallan remarks that she wasn't sure if the absorption of Veil is the Oath or if it is the words she says to Abidi. I feel like if she had received a bunch of stormlight in the moment it would have been obvious which one it was. (Sorry, I will go in and put all the exact quotes in when I have access to my books) Beyond that, when Venli swears her second ideal, I don't remember it ever saying that she got stormlight after swearing it. I don't really count Navani, as she is the one making the light, not receiving it when she swears her oath. So, is it just Windrunners that receive stormlight right when Swearing their Ideals? If so, why? If not, then when have you seen it? (Sorry if this has been mentioned before, and sorry if I'm not explaining this well.)

Ennalee spun, her sword piercing yet another withergeist. Still, there were too many. There was a man who had silently joined her side, though only for a moment. Still, she would keep fighting. She didn't know what she wanted, other than to stay alive. 9/10 had been dueling with the wizard, and Skylight was going after Glyer for some reason. She just wanted to get out of this horrid place. More and more though, it was looking like she wouldn't get the chance.- 111800 replies

Argh, I know this is a double post. Forgive me. So, I want to know what you guys think. I have several different stories that I am working on, and I want to know which one you guys want me to finish first. (For those of you who actually read my stuff, haha) I'll post a small intro to each of them, and let me know which one you want, if you care Nightmares Part Two (Yes, this does relate to the first story I posted) Journey Light Hope (For this one, it is my sort of attempted ending at it) (Also these are all without editing, so just be aware of that) Edit: If no one votes- which is a distinct possibility- I will just work on Nightmares Part 2. So unless someone specifically wants something else, that is what I will be doing Edit 2: Haha, looks like no one is gonna vote. So in two weeks (or once someone else posts so it doesn't look like a completely horrible triple post) I will post the stories I wrote during this time period all at once. I hope you enjoy!

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)

Ennalee charged forward. Her black cloak fluttered to the ground, forgotten in the commotion. Her sheath thudded softly at her side, tapping against her legs irritatingly, but she would need it if this battle was ever over. Her blade danced through the air, slashing and stabbing as she narrowly avoided death by the withergeists. Skylight, it seemed, was going after Glyer. Ennalee wasn't quite sure why, but she knew that it meant she was on her own. There were other people fighting back, though most had fallen to the withergeists or the man with the staff. The fallen, as it so happened, joined the withergeists as well. The withergeists grew stronger with each person they felled, pushing even harder against the remaining adventurers. Were they doomed, cursed from the start of this ill-fated battle? No, Ennalee couldn't believe that. She had to believe that her fighting meant something. And, if she did die, she would die with a sword in her hand. Swinging, she cut through a withergeist. She leapt over the body as it tumbled to the ground, then dashed forward. There were still others alive. She had to help. She had to. A man was fighting with a golden chain, holding off some withergeists. She made it to his side, fighting with him to stop them from destroying everything. She.. she was going to die, wasn't she? She didn't know how to get out. And there were so many of them... No. No. NO. She would fight until the end. She was not allowed to give up before then. She would fight. And she would try to win, if nothing else.- 111800 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
Stardust replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
"Does he do this often?" The man who had been talking to 9/10- Skylight, she thought- asked. Ennalee smiled grimly. "It seems so. The first time we met, he left unexpectedly as well." Voicing the words made it easier for Ennalee herself to believe, that it was simply 9/10's character, rather than some fault of her own, that had made him leave her. All of a sudden, a man quite literally burst into the room, shattering the back door. Ennalee immediately unsheathed her sword, the old habit coming back to her quickly. The man was cloaked, and gripped a black staff in his right hand. He seemed focused on Glyer, which gave Ennalee pause. Glyer and the man had a short- though rather loud- conversation, if you could even call it that. Ennalee would have called it more of a argument, or really, a threat. Suddenly, the man turned, noticing the crowd for the first time. Raising his staff, he proclaimed, "As for the rest of you... You shall pay the price.. for... associating with this knave." This... is not good. Ennalee thought her eyes flicking around the room. Some poor soul had been consumed by a fire that had spurted from the cloaked man's staff. No, no, focus. She needed a way out. The back door was clearly out. The cloaked man was standing rather close to it, and that made her wary. Had Glyer really been selling weapons to the Witherlord? Goodness, her thoughts did wander. Now, a way out... She couldn't think straight. Terror seemed to numb her. She couldn't remember where the other exits were. She had jotted them down in her notebook, but she didn't have the time to look. She needed to get out of here, however. Turning towards Skylight, she offered her hand. "I'm Ennalee, in case you were wondering. Now, are you willing to work with me to find a way out?" Sorry guys, I'll normally be way better about posting here. The last few days have just been really hectic.- 111800 replies

"Hostility? What makes you say I am hostile?" Realizing how she sounds, Ennalee takes a deep breath and checks her words. "Fine." She quickly sheaths the sword, though keeps a hand on the hilt just in case. "You left me. And now I can only assume that you are into some shady stuff. That man over there," Ennalee points at Skylight, "was talking to Glyer soon after Glyer mentioned Mordite. I can assume that he was talking with Glyer about Mordite. I can also only assume that, as Glyer is not talking to him now, he was rejected. Now, here you are, talking to him. That leads me to think that you have something to do with Mordite. Of course, I could be wrong. What do I know?" Ennalee eyes him carefully, waiting for him to respond. Her hand tightens on the hilt of her sword, though she forces her grip to loosen. Emotions, raw from when 9/10 ditched her, well up, but she quickly shoves them down. Logic is safe. Logic is good. Logic, unlike emotions, can be trusted.- 111800 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
Stardust replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
"Are you alright?" one of Glyer's assistants asked Ennalee. "I'm fine," Ennalee said, faintly annoyed. The reply must have come off sharper than she intended, however, because Glyer's assistant took a step back, their eyes widening. Ennalee immediately took on a kindly smile, softening her words. "Sorry. I mean, I'm quite alright, thank you for asking." She quickly shooed them away, all the while smiling. Once they were gone, she quickly pulled out her notebook. The seminar had started up again, but Ennalee barely heard a word. She was furiously scribbling down her thoughts. She hadn't missed the almost-but-not-quite glare Glyer had given her. And now, the man who had been talked to Glyer was talking to 9/10 in the back. Gun-Man was still sitting calmly, and didn't seen of too much concern, though she still held him in contempt. The last thoughts Ennalee jotted down were about her own experience. She examined her sword, noting silently that it was exactly the same as the one she had lost all those years ago. And that word. Narrator. Could... Could she be one? No, no, now wasn't the time for that. She quickly shoved those thoughts to the back of her mind. They didn't follow the Logic, and Logic was what she needed now. She was missing something. A piece of the puzzle. But whom to ask? Gun-Man, Glyer, or 9/10? Finally, she decided to talk to 9/10. She somewhat knew him, and could possibly glean some information from him. Though, admittedly, a part of her was outraged at how abruptly 9/10 had left her and wanted answers. Standing up, she unsheathed her sword and walked over to where 9/10 and the man were conversing.- 111800 replies

Stardust replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Ennalee struggled, fighting for control. Logic... She thought. Logic says that this cannot happen. SO IT CANNOT. The warping of the air stopped, though the sword remained. She quickly sheathed it, not wanting to think about how it had come to her. Ennalee, her face burning with an all too familiar blush, pulled her hood once over her head- it had fallen off when she had seen the sword. People were watching her, she knew. But she couldn't leave, not yet. She sat back down in her seat, her hand resting lightly on the hilt of her sword in a subtly threatening manner, challenging them to question her. For the most part, they settled down, though a few still sent her questioning glances, one of whom was the Gun-Man, the one who had started this whole fiasco by asking how to kill Narrators. Even now, the word sent an uncanny chill up her arms. She expected the seminar to start up again, but Glyer seemed tied up with a question from one of the people attending the seminar. Perhaps, she thought idly, it's time to talk to 9/10.- 111800 replies

Thank you! Please feel free to ask any questions; I will answer them to the best of my abilities. One thing to keep in mind though, is that the Mini Stories will usually be spur of the moment things, where my head goes during class. Longer stories I will have planned out and have lots of ideas about, so those ones will be the ones that I can typically more easily answer questions for, though I will answer any questions.
-
Thank you so much! I've decided to make some formatting things on this thread. 1. Normal short stories will have an edited version underneath so I can see how it has changed with your guys's advice. 2. Mini Stories, like the one I have posted below, will have the word "mini" before the title. These stories will only be about a paragraph or two long. 3. Poems, if I ever post any, will have the word "poem" in front of them. Anyways... Mini: That Moment

Ennalee jumped as Glyer removed the dagger from a sheath, the blade an unnatural black. Staring at that blade, everything seemed to slow down, everything else becoming a dull fuzz as she watched it. In the back of her mind, she recognized that the man had sat down, his question answered. But it didn't matter. That blade was the only thing that did in that moment. Reaching her hand to her side, she grasped the hilt of her sword and began to unsheath it, just in case. Wait. Her sword? She looked down and found that around her waist hung a sheath, in which lay a pure white sword that definitely hadn't been there the moment before. The logic followed. You expected there to be a sword there, so there was. The voice sounded triumphant. Pressing her hands to her head, Ennalee collapsed to her knees, letting out a wavering cry. All around her, the air began to warp as she started to panic.- 111800 replies

Ennalee froze. That word... Narrators. It sent an unconscious chill up her spine, and she found herself reaching for a sword that no longer hung at her waist. She didn't know what it meant, but something inside her clearly did. You know the truth, that voice in her head whispered, and she once again dismissed it, focusing on what Glyer would say.- 111800 replies

Ennalee sits, making sketches of a few people with a clearly unpracticed hand. One person in particular catches her attention. A man, sitting in a seat. The man holds his gun, cleaning and reloading it as the congregation waits for the seminar to begin. She isn't quite sure why he feels so intriguing to her; there is simply something about him that holds her focus. She is in the middle of debating whether or not to speak to him when another person bumps into her, causing her pencil to jolt in an unwanted line across the page. She jerks her head up angrily, ready to fight with whomever had so rudely behaved, but she quickly forgets about the mistreatment. Another man, standing near the back of the auditorium, feels yet again familiar, though in a different way than Gun-Man. He... Ennalee's eyes narrow. It couldn't be. It shouldn't be. ...could it? ...9/10mmHB#2 certainly had some explaining to do.- 111800 replies

Yeah nice try. I will still want to eat them until I try them lol. (Yes, that sentence totally makes sense. Don't question it)

Hmmm I have this problem too. One thing that I do that other people do as well, is have other people depend on your projects. Like, I had this one story that I was kind of working on, but I had another idea that I wanted to work on more. When I realized that other people wanted to read the first story, I actually spent time finishing that one, because I didn't want to let people down. Does that make sense? Sorry, I am not great at explaining things.
