  1. Ahoy So. I just finished Way of Kings about fifteen minutes ago, and have read the deleted scene that has been put up. So I figured I'd wander onto this forum.. and have found people talking about things that I don't remember being said/occuring, and the TVTropes page lists piles of things that weren't in the book (I stopped reading that after the second or third "Huh?" moment). Is there some other information source that I've missed somewhere?
  2. Finished this yesterday, thoroughly enjoyed it I spent quite a bit of time thinking about random ways to kill off Miles, and honestly it wouldn't be all that hard if you managed a specific lucky shot. I'm pretty sure that if you, for get, stuck a knife in his neck such that is severed the spine, and left it in there, he'd be stuffed. Sure he could stay alive, but he's still a quadriplegic and you can then go about removing his Goldminds Also, like a couple of other people have noted I do like the fact that Marasi is a feminine girl who loves her creature-comforts who can still be damned handy and useful, rather than a gung-ho warrior like Vin. Just my two coppers on the Kandra debate, I've thought from that scene where the Butler tries to kill Wax that the butler was replaced. Wayne notes afterwards that "The tea wasn't even very good", considering the butler's previous comments and expertise involving tea it makes me think that when the Uncle tried to get him to kill Wax, the real butler refused and so was eaten by a Kandra to carry through the plot.
  3. Well that answers that one I'm certainly hoping the game goes well. Just need them to hurry up and sell the book (it's the 15th in Australia dangit!)
  4. Oh I have plans involving Kandra already, never fear From the above discussion I think I'll go with: X amount of time ago a previous family in charge of the Lord Ruler's Atium supply decided to try and expand the business. They secretly, over the course of years, moved a number of Atium Crystals, some raw geodes, and a moderate cache of Atium itself to a location well away from Luthadel. With these supplies they hoped to be able to setup a second, smaller Pits of Hathsin. Unfortunately the Crystals never grew, and the Great House was mysteriously wiped out during a house war. Somehow they found all their allies turned against them, signed and documented deals had loopholes they didn't realise, their critical supplies raided and their Mistborn dead in the night (ie, Inquisitors & Obligators carefully manipulated things to ensure the house was destroyed without the Lord Ruler having to reveal that they were messing about with his Atium and doing it publicly). A moderate noble from an unremarkable house whose family bought out some of the formerly Great House's real estate after their destruction, has recently been found by Obligator bookkeepers to be using and stockpiling more Atium than he should have been able to sensibly acquire. Is he simply a more shrewd businessman than they thought, able to purchase more Atium than expected? Has he somehow managed to steal Atium from another house? Or did the previous house's efforts really create a new Pits of Hathsin and it has now been uncovered?....
  5. Of course Hrm. Probably right, it's strictly "What you may have been" so no reaching into "What you may become". I just thought that since Gold was commonly thought to be useless, it'd be amusing to have Savants actually getting a use out of it. Maybe even to the point of "If I think about Decision X made in my life, I see an image that corresponds with that choice" Hrm. That's actually a good point on "it's more to do with the group they're raised with than their lineage" but you're no doubt quite right on it's not "Supposed" to be done. Well, the basic idea is according to records "Noble X seems to be making use of more Atium than he should be getting access to", and him possibly actually having found another (small) source for it. Perhaps somehow having had a few full nodes carved out of the Pits and carried to his location, where they're still producing Atium. Or perhaps there are a few naturally occuring in a cave system. Hrm. Odd ruins from a couple of centuries ago have been unearthed, papers within indicate someone stole some rocks from the Pits to try and artificially create a new location for Atium to grow?... You get the idea
  6. Hey all So. I've been throwing some ideas around in my head for a Mistborn RPG I plan to run once the book is released. However I've got a couple of world questions that I thought I'd throw out there to see what peoples answers are. Warning: I haven't read Alloy of Law yet, so no spoilers please (it's next on my list once I finish Dance of Dragons ) Note: The RPG I'm planning is for during the Lord Ruler's time And now, on to the weird and eclectic questions 1) What would a Gold Allomantic Savant be like? The only thing I can think of is an.. almost controlled use of it to predict the future. As in "Hey, what will happen to me if I do X rather than Y" and seeing an image of what they'd end up like. Or alternatively, seeing what every single other variation of themselves might be, and what decisions would lead them to there. 2) It's mentioned a few times, especially in the first book, that Noblemen that take a Skaa 'lover' are expected to kill them immediately afterwards. Is it mentioned anywhere what (if any) similar rule there is for Noblewomen? Killing their bed-warmer obviously won't do much to prevent half-skaa offspring, but if 'morning after' contraception was reliable then the rules on killing skaa women mightn't be so strict. Would noblewomen not be allowed the same freedom with skaa slaves, or would they simply be ordered to to "whatever is necessary" to ensure they didn't bear a child? 3) Ok, big spoiler here for Book 3 Mistborn here I'm sure I'll come up with more questions as my campaign idea solidifies, but that'll do for now
  7. There's one other potential way to think about why Preservation is like he is. As spelled out a few times in Hero of Ages, each Shard's body, power and consciousness are separate. It's not beyond comprehension that at some point Preservation has gone "You know, holding things are they are is all well and good, but what if things changed, not for the worse like Ruin does, but for the *better*? Wouldn't that be something to see! Pity my power doesn't allow me to do that on my own" It also makes sense that way with Ruin. Technically Ruin's power seems more "Change" than simply "Entropy" (as referenced by the Ruin repeatedly building something as long as it tore things down elsewhere), but his consciousness only wants to destroy.
  8. Clearly I should have gone archive-digging before posting Still, considering the rest of the series and how intricately everything was setup, I was quite surprised that there wasn't even a passing mention of these bits at the end of the book.
  9. So. Finally finished the series yesterday. Quite enjoyed it, I did predict quite a few of the bits and pieces (Vin's earring, Preservation & Ruin needing to meet/negate/merge/something, the mists trying to turn people into Allomancers, etc) but still plenty of surprised (SazedTan anyone? and a lot of fun. However Unanswered Questions abound! What happened to the Kandra? Did they get returned to sentience or does the whole species just get to commit suicide and be forgotten? What about Marsh? He sacrificed more than any other member of the crew, we had the huge buildup about him "holding a piece of himself back" from Ruin, and we didn't even get to find out if he died or not Quite enjoyable finale tarnished by lack of information.
  10. Remember though, this is on Brandon's forums, so things will no doubt be strongly skewed in his favor (even if he's still behind).
  11. Like so many others I heard about Brandon after reading that he was finishing WoT. I'm now halfway through the Mistborn series and quite enjoying it (but then, anything written by a fellow Sanderson *has* to be good ).
  12. I just looked up how you're 'supposed' to say both of those. o.O Yep, definitely different to how I pronounce them in my head! But then, I pronounced a lot of it 'wrong' anyway (I think Stargate actually set me right on "Sa'Angreal"). Kaladin certainly sounds like Paladin with a K to me, but I can see how someone would pronounce it like Saladin (ie Sal-ah-deen) with a K.
  13. Sharks! (with laser beams) Nicola Tesla or Abraham Lincoln
