  1. Does anyone have audio of the stormilight reading for the calamity tour we could transcribe? He was only able to read a small portion of the chapter at the Philly signing but told us it was ok to post a transcription from another signing if we could find one. What we heard was awesome so I would really like to hear the rest

  2. I just got back from the signing and it was a blast. I got  a few questions answered. These answers are from my best memory but Oudeis has a recording so if anything is off we can change it later, but here is the gist.

    Q. Did the KR create the shattered plains? ( pet theory of mine)

    A. RAFO

    Q. As of WoR are there 2 groups of Skybreakers running around?

    A. The only group of skybreakers is Nale's.

    Q. Could a thunderclast exist outside of a desolation.

    A. In theory it could, but is highly unlikely.

    Q. Would a room full of stormlight lamps heal someone?

    A. For a normal person it would have no more of a healing effect than us going out into the normal sun.

Got to meet a bunch of cool sharders and get a group picture taken. Always a good time.

  3. I was able to obtain a copy of Shadows of Self today. Can't wait to start reading it. I was wondering if anyone else has already gotten a copy. Also, are full book spoilers allowed in this sub forum as long as spoiler tags are used, or does that have to wait until the official release?

  4. I have a few questions I was going to ask at the Philly signing. If anyone could ask a few of these that would be great so I can finish working on 2 theories I have going at the moment.

    Did cultivation forsee honor’s shattering/death?

Can an honor blade activate an oathgate?

Did the knights radiant create the shattered plains?

At any point did tanavast reliquinsh the power of honor to someone else?

    What happened to Tearim?

Is hoid using magic to autotranslate and if so is it a magic system we are familiar with?

We know it has been stated that adanalisum could have been shattered into 16 different intents. We also know there is a force out there opposing adanalsium. Did it shatter into those 16 intents because it believed that was the best way to defend against this said force?

Is the keyhole to the oathgate a spren? Shallan says it is the same material as a shard blade.

    Thanks

“He performed the miracle of Regrowth,” said one of the older scions. “He was dead and he

returned. What better application could we ask for?”

Lift crawled up to him. His body was still warm, but the blood seemed to have stopped flowing.

    His eyes were closed.

I think it is safe to say that Gawx was dead.

  6. I think it might be possible that adolin has atleast attracted a spren and we do not know. In the final battle we get this little tid bit.

"Where was the Thrill that usually propelled him through this kind of butchery? He needed it.

Instead, he felt only nausea." - Words of Radiance

This could be a sign that he has attracted a spren which is giving him protection from the thrill.
  7. So I know a lot of people have been throwing around the idea that worldhoppers are able to travel through means of shardpools. I think some of the recent WoB have helped to strengthen this. I also believe they may help explain why it is hard to travel the cognitive realm on Sel.

I know in a current WoB (if someone could help with the link that would be great) that someone asked if Raoden found a way to extend Sarene's life or if he gave himself to the pool and brandon replied that the pool is not what we think it is. We then have this WoB from the chicago signing.

[1:59:58]: The prevailing theory on the 17th Shard is that Hoid worldhops using Shadesmar. Could you confirm or deny that?
A: Hoid has indeed gotten between worlds before through Shadesmar.
Q: And would you be willing to give us a hint as to how he does that?
A: There are hints in the books. There is a hint in the very first cosmere book I released. [that would be ElantrisWhich I thought was a huge hint, but so far I haven't seen anyone talking about it.
    Me: Really?
A: Mmhmm. I thought that once people started figuring the cosmere, they would see the massive in-your-face hint I put in that book, but so far, as far as I know, no one has. [some chat about Brandon's tendency to drop sneaky hints and how he likes doing that] Now, the one [hint] about the map, that one I don't think is obvious. I know people have been trying to figure it out. It's something fun once you figure it out, but it's not something huge and obvious. The Elantris once was, like, enormously "HIIINT!"

I believe that the shardpools are used for world hopping and the reason it is so hard on Sel is due to all the elantrians giving themselves to the pool. Not knowing exactly how to use the cognitive realm, I think they are hanging around "clogging" it up.  What do you guys think?

  8. the signing was awesome. brandon is a really cool dude. as for my questions, i asked

    Q. Based on what we know about 10 heartbeats for a shardblade, why does szeth require 10 heartbeats to summon his honorblade?

A: (paraphraised) A lot of things involve ones perception. Szeth believes he needs 10 heartbeats to summon it so therefore he does. So i then asked is this why shallan needed 10 heartbeats to summon pattern for the first book and a half and he said yes exactly. Then he expanded by saying this is also why kaladins scar will not heal yet.

I finally asked if he could write anything in my book that we did not already know about the skybreakers. I will upload the picture when i get home but  it is the second oath of the skybreakers which says "I will put the law before all else".

hope everyone else had a great time. Unfortunately i showed up too late to meet anyone

  9. I kind of like this theory. So far from all the information we have seen nalan seems to be the only herald actively doing anything related to surgebinding. And we now know  the shin only have 7 of the honorblades. I can def see the skybreakers refusing to disband, therefore nalan going back for his honorblade

  10. So we now know darkness is nalan. I read in an early thread about the origins of the heralds. Menacekop pointed out that the essence of nalan sort of goes along with the magics of nalthis.  We know from the szeth point of view that nalan is in possession of nightblood. Does this add further evidence to nalan being from nalthis, or do you guys think he obtained it from a worldhopper?

  11.

I believe that this indicates that S spren were not necessarily apart of Surge-binding originally.

I have to disagree with this. we know from the WoR material from the dalinar chapter

I was surprised when these orders arrived. I did not teach my Heralds this. It was the spren—wishing to imitate what I had given men—who made it possible

so i believe spren have always been needed for surgebinding
