  1. I think the bigger question is "did he burn it while still Compounding"- whether he used a metalmind or swallowed gold flakes isn't important to my question. Though that line of thought does lead me to another question- could you burn a metalmind to get the ordinary effect of the metal, as well as an enhanced version of its Feruchimical effect, or would it only be good for Compounding? Obviously it doesn't work that way automatically, or Miles would be followed around by his gold shadow all the time, but would it be possible?
  2. I think you mean "Sliver" of Infinity And by the time of AoL, don't forget that his followers dropped the "of Infinity" part and just call him "the Sliver".
  3. I've just been in a discussion about AoL on another board and the question came up of whether or not a Compounder can burn their metal for its allomantic properties while simultaneously having their Compounding going? So, for example, could TLR burn regular atium to see the future while also burning feruchemically-enhanced atium to keep himself young? I figured "yes", on the assumption that they would show up as distinct metal reserves, and also based on the fact that Miles burns regular gold in AoL and seemingly never turns his Compounding off, but I was wondering if anyone knew for sure/if Brandon had spoken about this?
  4. Clubs knew- I don't have my book handy, but I *distinctly* remember him saying that even though he was immune, he didn't trust Soothers (or, presumably, Rioters) because they tend to be very good at playing people even without their metals.
  5. I assumed that "Brightness" and "Brightlady" were simply different terms that meant the same thing (a highly-ranked lighteyed woman) but that "Brightness" was more "correct" as it were, particularly as a form of address, so that's why it shows up more.
  6. Jasnah's not on the Shattered Plains (yet) though, and I'm pretty sure Elhokar's wife's back in Kholinar (can someone confirm that? Don't have my book handy).
  7. Probably In any case, we have at least one reference to the man by his surname.
  8. Probably because there are at least four Brightlord Kholins (Dalinar, Adolin, Renarin, and the King himself) in the warcamps, while Sadeas seems to be the only one of his house who's actually there in person. And I definite reacall Kaladin calling Dalinar either Highprince Kholin or Brightlord Kholin at least once.
  9. Thanks for clearing that up- I was thinking "Trunk" as in "Tree-trunk", which was making very little sense in this context.
  10. Except that Elantris is mentioned as a "trunk" novel in that quote, as I understood it...
  11. My two cents: my theory is that the Unmade were the most powerful form of Voidbringer and that they corresponded to the Heralds, and probably functioned for Odium similarly to the Forsaken for the Dark One in Wheel of Time (albeit, from the way they're referenced, probably significantly more inhuman). Whether they were empowered humans, some variety of parshmen/parshendi, or malevolent superspren is something that I think we can't figure out until we learn more about what being a Voidbringer means, though Dalinar's vision of Nohadon would indicate that they were recognized as having distinct identities. I also like the idea that they were the inspiration for the Ten Fools. About Yelig-nar him/itself, I have to wonder- attention is specifically drawn to this particular Unmade twice, and he's noted as being unusual for being able to "speak like a man". Was he the most important of the Unmade, a dark counterpart to the Stormfather and a sort of Voidbringer Ishamael? Or is it just the fact that he can talk and killed Nohadon's wordsmen that made him noteworthy? I can't imagine that he got referenced twice so comparatively early for no reason.
  12. Out of curiosity (and I've probably missed something along the line) what is the meaning of a "trunk" Shard novel? I saw on the Reddit Q&A that Mistborn, Stormlight, and Dragonsteel kind of formed the "core" Cosmere arc; would I be right in guessing that the "trunk" novels are Elantris, Warbreaker, and others that aren't part of those three? Or does it mean something else? Sorry if this has been answered before
  13. Going back through the Reddit Q&A, he mentioned Aether and White Sand at one point as unpublished books that had concepts or magic systems he liked enough that they'll see publication "in one form or another".
  14. Thanks for the info! I figured it was Cosmere (considering the wiki didn't mention it being YA or something that was attached to another property, like WOT or the recent novella) but I've been trying to put together a general outline of planned Cosmere stuff, so I really appreciate knowing for sure.
  15. Another question that I looked on the Coppermind but couldn't find a clear answer to- is Aether of Night supposed to be part of the Cosmere, or is it seperate? And has it ever been said how many books it would be projected to be? Thanks!
  16. Dalinar's final vision implies that an apocalypse is Odium's end goal (whether or not the Almighty's portrayal of how that works is literal or not remains to be seen). But it's not going to be a quick or clean one in any way, shape, or form, though. Considering you've got the shard of hate, malice, and all that fun stuff (Odium) tied to a person who was apparently pretty evil already, at least in the letter-writer's (Hoid's?) opinion (Rayse), I'm somehow doubting that Roshar's going to be in for anything as relatively quick or clean as what Ruin tried to do on Scadrial. And when Ruin starts looking like the pleasant alternative...
  17. Considering that his Shard name is, effectively, a synonym for hatred, I would assume that Odium's nature is to hate all other beings or things (as Preservation's was to protect them or Ruin's was to destroy them) and his goals are, therefore, probably not too dissimilar from those of Lord Foul from the Thomas Covenant books- in other words, he does want to destroy everything, but he wants to wring the maximum amount of suffering from it first (where Ruin was really only malevolent towards people who got in his way; otherwise, he was a more impersonal destroyer). Of course, unlike Foul (who was bound to one world) Odium seems to have at least some freedom to roam the cosmos, which means he's not just Roshar's problem. In short, I see the major difference between Ruin and Odium being one of motive and method- Ruin was an efficient destroyer who destroyed because it was his nature to break things down, while Odium is a hateful destroyer who destroys out of sheer malice and spite.
  18. Jordan; I first heard of Sanderson when he was announced to be completing Wheel of Time; I wanted to get an idea of what he could do, so I picked up Mistborn when I saw it at Barnes and Noble a short time later. Needless to say, I was hooked .
  19. Thanks a lot! I'd seen some of this info before (at least in part because I googled it around the same time that I made the post ) but it's nice to see it all laid out. Now, on a semi-related note, the post-Alloy of Law Cosmere books that we know to expect are Stormlight 2 (late 2012-early 2013) Stormlight 3 (a yeard or so after 2) and Elantris 2 (aiming for 2015), correct? Thanks!
  20. Hopefully this is the right section to ask this... Anyway, new member (but a Brandon Sanderson fan of several years) with a question; I recently re-read Way of Kings, and it got me thinking about the Cosmere and Brandon's longterm plans for books set in it. I've run across the names "White Sand", "Silence Divine", and "Dragonsteel" for projected Cosmere books, and I was wondering what all we know (if anything) about them beyond the names? I get the impression that these are far enough into the future that we can't even really speculate about release date (and I certainly don't expect any information about involved Shards until the books themselves come out), but is there any info out there on setting/world names/magic systems/rough ideas about plot for any of these, and are there any other hopefully-forthcoming Cosmere books that I've missed (I know about the projected sequels to Elantris and Warbreaker, further plans for Mistborn trilogies, and of course, Stormlight)? Thanks for the assist!
