  1. Another possible connection between Elantris and Stormlight. I just got I troduced to the Monks of Dakhor in Elantris. We know that Odium has visited Sel previously, he unmade their shards so they are in the cognitive realm….the way they are described are very similar to how the parshendi’s carapace is described…could they be similar? Or maybe even descendants of parshendi who came to Sel with Odium?

Odium didn't unmade Shards of Dominion and Devotion, he Splintered them (kill them) and pull their investiture out of the Spiritual Realm into the Cognitive Realm, creating the Dor. Odium didn't left his power on Sel:

It says that it's dangerous to travel to Shadesmar on Sel. Why?

      Brandon Sanderson

It has to do with the Dor and the lack of an entity controlling much of the power Odium left in his wake on Sel.

      Phantine

Woah, that's interesting. I had no idea Odium left little bits of his power on Sel... I guess it kinda makes sense for evil monks to be powered by pure hate, though.

      Brandon Sanderson

Odium did not leave his power behind, one should note. He left several other powers which are now, to a large extent, mindless...

If you wouldn't mind answering, does Roshar have a similar problem, with Honor being Splintered?

      Brandon Sanderson

No, Roshar does not have the same problem. There are some differences going on. One reason being that the spren are far more extensive on Roshar, and provide something of a "release valve." The seons and the skaze on Sel are not numerous enough to fulfill a similar function. Though, of course, that's only one part of the puzzle. Raw power is dangerous.

And who the Monks of Dakhor are - just keep reading. I think it will be explained in the end. If you finished but still aren't sure, look into the spoiler box below - but ONLY if you've fully finished Elantris:

      Spoiler

They are more like Elantrians. They are humans, who using the magic of the Dor underwent a transformation that gave them powers. Their magic is drawing from the Dor and came from Devotion and Dominion - just like what's happening with Elantrains.

Parshendi are native to Roshar and predate the Shattering of Adonalsium and every Shard. Odium visited Sel as one of the first planets, long before he came to Roshar, where Parshendi lived. At first Parshendi even were in opposition to Odium and it was humans from Ashyn who brought Odium with them to Roshar.

  2. I have a random question about a possible link between Elantris and Stormlight Archive. I have read all the Stormlight archive books and I’m almost done with Elantris so I’ve been trying make connections everywhere.

But my question is about cryptic Spren. They are described as having a pattern that just keeps repeating…so I’m wondering if maybe their patterns are just Aons that are laid over each other so you can’t really tell it’s an Aon? That’s probably dumb but I just can’t stop thinking about it.

Close, but no. Cryptics don't have Aons in their symbols. Each Cryptic's name is a unique number/mathematical constant and their head/symbol is a fractal pattern. Aons are unique to Elantris and Seons.

However, there was a Seon appearing in RoW and several other connections to Elantris. :) If you want to know where:

      Spoiler

Soen was in the communication box given to Shallan by Mraize. In RoW ch 115, it was revealed it was a Seon named Ala:

      Quote

Adolin fell silent, waiting and watching as Shallan lifted the top of Mraize’s cube. With help from Kelek, they’d gotten it open without harming the thing inside: a spren in the shape of a glowing ball of light, a strange symbol at the center. No one here recognized the variety of spren, but Wit called it a seon.
“Are you well, Ala?” Shallan asked. It was said like A-lay

In OB ch 97, the lighthouse keeper is an Elantrian named Riino, who you've met in Elantris (spoilers for Elantris):

      Spoiler

The Hoed who vanished in the pool.

Those are the two main ones.

I figured that was a seon when I started Elantris! It’s so cool! I knew it was specific to each one as well. I know someone asked Brandon if they are glyphs and he said no. Brandon did say we could possibly recognize them. Seeing as the only other like magic language I know is that I thought it could connect. Thank you!
