Favourite moment? Its has to be with Shallan and Kaladin in the chasms when he realised that she has a more messed up past than he did.

My theory about the Cryptics is that they gain power from hidden truths and that the difference between the name that they give themselvs and the names that others use has to with how one views the methods that they use to keep these hidden. I imagine that this could be why they were so attracted to Shallan, she keeps so much hidden even from herself. I think that she will strengthen the bond between her and her spren by revealing some of her secrets to it leading into her flashback chapters.

I don't think that it has been confirrmed just how many desolations there have been. If I remember correctly the the 99-100 figure come form rather recent religous texts and seems rather of poetic to be true. There could have only really been 20-30 and they could still cover a period of 3000 to 4000 years. I think we may get a more trustworthy figure when a Herald POV chapter.

I'm not convinced that Kaladins power will increase by the same amount as he says the rest of the oaths. The difference between 1 and 2 could be explained by the first oath being for all orders with the second the first of the order specific ones. -
Each Knights Radient order had a different function.

I like the idea. But I think that might be a least a couple more orders that had plate and blade. After the slaughter that happened the first time the other order might have felt that it was best to hide theirs away rather than let that happen again. This would also mean that there is a large stash of shards for the new KR order to find and use when the time is right. -

I am rally hoping that we do get to see a Szeth Kaladin fight but I'm not certian that it is going to happen. Kaladin will also be training the rest of the bridgemen and doing other things, I don't see my Dalinars side 100% of the time. I think theres an outside posibility that whe Szeth atacks Shallan/Jasnah will be one(s) to stop him. They are going to be heading to the shatteres plains as well and WoR seems to be the book where we learn a lot about soulcasting. (I'm assuming that someone holding stormlight can't be affected or it would be a very short fight.) -

Thanks. I seem to remember reading that now, it must have slipped my mind. It probably because I have been visualizing lashings as adding a new vector rather than a twisting of the existing one. Can anyone think of ank strange ways the use the lashing that haven't come up in the books yet? -

From what I have read the Basic lashings seem to work in a plane. i.e. if you lashed an opject upwards then moved it a significant distance to the side it would still be traveling in a parallel course to the first one. Heres another inconsistancey I don't know if anyone has discussed before? When Szeth lashes an object it seems to to overwrite the natural gravity pull on it. So if he lashes a rock horizontally to the ground it will seem to fall at right angles to standard gravity as it only one force is acting on it. But Szeth uses partial lashings on himself to reduce the natural gravity acting on him allowing him to jump better. is this a mistake, do lashing act differently when used on people or am I missing something? -

Another thing that might happen is that Kaladin and bridge four may come up some clever tricks that Szeth hasen't seen before. They are starting form first principles and have no idea what is considered impossible or not. Szeth seems to be only using lashings in ways that he was trained to. He is very good with them be I don't see him experimenting to find new ways of using his abilities. I can see bridge speculating widely and trying to find what is possible. -

Maybe not tactics but hearing the accounts from the different battles would give a smart person a pretty good idea of Szeths abilities. If Kaladin hears about the battles it shouldn't take him that long to do a basic lashing once he know the effect he is trying to reproduce, the other two are pretty instinctive. I asume that there are survivors because Szeth was ordered to be seen in the prologue so that the Alethi know who killed their king. Taravangian ordered him to use similar tactics so there should be a reasonable amount of people that have seen him fight. At the end of WoK I think that Szeth is the better fighter and would win but if there is a fight between Szeth and Kaladin in WoR then I think that it will be pretty even. I can see Kaladin injuring Szeth and forcing him to withdraw. The evidence in the books is certianly surgestive that Kaladin is better at holding stormlight than Szeth but I don't think that it is conclusive because there is so many differences between the two situations. -

Another couple of things to take into account in a Kaladin vs Szeth fight. - After becoming Dalinars bodyguard Kaladin will surely be briefed on possible threats against him including a certian assassin in white. I think the is how he will learn basic lashings from recountings of Szeths previous battles. - This would also mean that Kaladin could have more insight into Szeths tatics while to Szeth Kaladin would be a complete unknown. -While Szeth has more experience fighting with lashings that Kaladin neither has any fighting another surgebinder. -
Hey I'm new to the forums here. My idea on this is that maybe everything didn't go Odiums way and that Honor forced him in to this type of conflict. Binding Odium to some sort of rules of battle with equal and opposing forces seems like the sort of way that honor would fight back when attacked. To have a chance at getting to Honor, Odium had to play by the rules and invest some of himself. His desire to destroy Honor is greater than his aversion to investing himself.

Hey a very (very) new member here. I think that Kaladin holding stormlight has the physical strength to break shardplate but the usual wooden spears are weaker than plate and just shatter. Its a good thing that there is already someone there who knows how to make really strong weapons. I'm sure that a steel spear infused with one of those gems could break shardplate.
