All the text tells us for certain is that the Anti-light that Gavilar obtained came from Vasher, and that Gavilar beleived Vasher was making it - it does not clarify that Vasher did in fact make it, or how he acquired it if he did not make it.

This is a good point, so thanks for calling it out. I do still think the theory works with this in mind -- knowing Vasher's personality, I can't image he loved working for someone like Gavilar, but it could make sense if Gavilar was giving him the resources needed to discover and/or create Anti-Light.

  2. In the prologue to Wind and Truth, we discovered that Vasher was working with Gavilar to create Anti-Light.

My theory is a simple one: Vasher's goal here was to find a way to destroy Nightblood. Whether that would work or not is up for debate, but I could see Vasher's logic if that were the case. I also think this could have contributed to Vasher, Vivenna, and Nightblood splitting up.

Does this pass the 17th Shard sniff test??

  3. Frankly, I hope this does not happen. At least his reason for changing Words of Radiance was not about fan reception, but unhappiness with the decision he madeEven this is a little frustrating to me, to be honest.

Worth noting that I'm not someone who was too bothered by the prose or humor. I thought it was unremarkable but not a negative. 🤷‍♂️

  4. What a great question! I vote Riino's!

    fr probs like Kaladah

That said, I'm not sure Kaladin will ever be known as a Herald in the Vorin (or, frankly, any) religion. Nobody knows he's a Herald yet, and presumably people who already know him will still be alive when he Returns. I guess we'll see if Heralds are still a thing at the end of Stormlight 10.

Dalinar was warned by Hoid that while years or even decades might pass on Roshar, he might feel like only hours passed in those visions in SR.

Ahhh that makes sense. I understood that the visions were in the SR, but didn't connect this piece to it.

it's because they are still not healed, they can't be fully healed because their status as a Cognitive Shadow makes their condition worse the longer they live.

This also makes sense to me - though I know Kaladin was hoping to get them to a more healed place before the next Return. So I assumed more time = more opportunity to do that. To be honest, I'm sure he'd want more time with them.

No, Ishar said that while decades will pass on Roshar, they will experience just a few months, not more.

This is really confusing to me in the book. Why are they experiencing time at a faster rate than those on Roshar - i.e. why do they seem to exist outside of the planet's time dilation? This is especially confusing to me, because you'd think the Heralds would want more time to relax and recuperate.

I think it was either instantly returned to Honor, or it will slowly return to the SR and slowly be reincorporated with Retribution.

I think this is correct. Investiture can't be created or destroyed, so the idea of it 'vaporizing' seems more like a poetic descriptor than something that should be taken literally. Or maybe the Stormfather was the Investiture that went off to somewhere unknown.

No WoBs on it yet that I can find. Oddly, while it seems there are 3x as many announcements as there used ot be, there are less-than-half as many opportunities for Q&A and WoBs.

This is obviously off topic, but I don't mind less opportunities for WoBs. It makes the Q&As feel a bit more special and keeps Brandon from giving too much away (e.g. Taln never broke, giving wink-wink-nudge-nudge RAFOs).

I do not, I think it's like a Reverse Lashing (Adhesion and Gravitation) - a merged surge that requires access to both Illumination and Transformation

Okay interesting! And I'm sure that reaching the Fourth Ideal makes it easier for Shallan/other Lightweavers to use this Resonance, in that they have simply have access to more power. Because while I acknowledge she does this in Oathbringer, she's much better and more intentional about it in Wind and Truth. Thanks for the clarification! Would still be curious what Brandon has to say about it...

  10. Inspired by a Reddit comment

In WaT, we see Shallan create physical Lightweavings. Do we know if this is something any Fourth Ideal Radiant with access to Illumination can do? Or is this actually a Lightweaver-specific Resonance that connects Illumination and Transformation?

In my opinion, the answer is the former (that any Fourth Ideal Radiant with Illumination can do it). I think this is implied by the fact that Investiture can be 'physical' in the Spiritual Realm. What do you think?

  11. Each book delivers on something difference for me:

Way of Kings is hard to beat for me, since it's the introduction to the world and characters. Words of Radiance has some of the best action. Oathbringer finally delivers on some answers and larger worldbuilding. Rhythm of War goes back to a smaller scale and focuses on secondary characters well. Wind and Truth delivers on even more answers - while setting up an awesome second arc.

On the podcast they seemed to discuss an as yet unknown world for Dan to write in. But will it stay there? What do you think?

Yeah I seem to remember him talking about working on a language - which, to me, implies a brand new world. That said, I think Threnody would be a good match for his sensibilities as a writer (as you mentioned above).

  13. So many great moments. Here are my favorites:

    • Kaladin playing the SylFlute (almost brought me to tears)
    • The Recreance
    • Dalinar meeting the Stormfather in the Spiritual Realm 'prison'
    • Szeth fighting Rit (the Stoneward Honorbearer)
    • Szeth fighting Ponzo and Dulo in Shadesmar
    • The glimpse into Chasmfiend's intelligence
    • Adolin fighting on the front lines in the dome
    • Shallan watching Renarin and Rlain kiss
    • All Tanavast flashbacks

i doubt brandon will want to rewrite the ecology, though, so he'll find some excuse to avoid it.

I disagree with this! To me, the ending promises huge changes to the ecology and Roshar in general - I bet he's excited to alter these things, especially after spending so many years on books one to five.

    Spoiler

We talked about Lorieta's predictions on Shardcast, I think the general conclusion we came to was that some of them seemed to have happened, some we were unsure about, and some we had no idea about.

I thought the ShardCast ep on these was really good! It came out just a few days after this thread started, so also very timely :)

I'll also admit that Chasmfriends has been the story I think the most about. The ending was so funny!

  16. Thanks for setting this up @#1 Taln Fan. I totally get the criticisms of this whole thing but still nice to have a place to talk about it! Here's a few conversation starters:

    1. What do we think about the two Worldhoppers Jasnah met in Shadesmar? Do we have any idea what planet they came from? How does the girl have Futuresight? And did anyone else find it strange that the green man's name sounds Terris?

    2. What is the Current? This is - I believe - the first mention of it. Where does it lead? What's its source?

    3. This is the first mention of Emberdark. Is it on Roshar, or somewhere else? I had trouble understanding from this story alone.

    4. Who was your favorite character in the stories, and why was it Lopen's hand-Wit?
