I love what you said about individual variance and different experiences. It is so true. That being said Im 100% with you on this perspective. Those Kaladin sections you describe had more of an impact on me then when he is at the bottom. It's feeling it getting bad again and not knowing if he'll recover or how bad it will get this time.
