I remember this from the general post! I definitely agree with most of these!

I think the only two that are wrong are Yerin, Orthos and Eithan. Orthos doesn't really fit the Ideals of any Order, but the closest he'd be is a Skybreaker IMO. He sees himself as a dragon, and he upholds the virtues and mentalities of a traditional dragon. He tries to teach others (mostly Lindon) what this means, and he supposedly meditates on these ideals. Orthos, in the Stormlight world, would be one who has sworn himself to the ideals of the Blackflame Dragons, and ultimately chooses to embody what HE thinks they are at their most ideal level.

Eithan, despite me calling him an Elsecaller earlier, is probably closer to a Willshaper with only undertones of Elsecaller in there. Eithan is FIERCELY independent and stresses under the confines of order. He's not an anarchist or something similar, like how we picture the Vroshir to be, but he also doesn't like the rules in structures of the systems he's involved with. He hates how Cradle has the "might makes right" and "it's lonely at the top" mentalities. He hates how the Abidan have an "if it isn't broken for us, why fix it or try to improve it?" mindset. He wants to change those, from the ground up. That's a Willshaper to me.

Ozriel, however, was 100% an Elsecaller.

Yerin is also weird. She's an Elsecaller to me, in that she wants to be the best she can be. But I can see her as something of a Skybreaker towards the end of the series. I think post-Waybound, she'd be a solid Skybreaker.

I would argue when you view the whole context of Oz/Eith, that he would be an Elsecaller, because he doesn't dislike rules, he wants to change them to be what he envisions they could be. In other words he's a visionary who will never stop. I see that as Elsecaller. For the rest though, yeah, Orthos wouldn't have an order. I put him in Lightweaver because he tries to understand his dragony-ness. Yerin, I think, also wouldn't be a radiant for most of her career, until she does become a Skybreaker.

That is my argument, I stand with it. This is a fun topic though, isn't it?

  2. When it comes to cradle, I find the character arcs similar to the stormlight archive. In that vein, below I will share what order I think they would be, and then I really, really, want to hear how you agree/disagree. Time to start.

    Lindon - Dustbringer

    Yerin- Skybreaker

    Mercy - Edgedancer

    Ziel - Windrunner/Stoneware

Orthos - Lightweaver (LB wouldn't have an order YET I think)

    Eithan/Ozmanthus - Elsecaller

What did I get right and wrong?

Planets are not the same thing as moons. Ashyn is not a moon.

I think it's called a moon, but regardless, Braize definitely is. I'm pretty sure that's part of the world. The other planets are called moons.

I was just wondering if we are allowed to post things we have found in the Stormlight RPG into this forum? There is some pretty interesting Ba Ado Mishram fused lore in there I don't think anyone knew.

I'd say it depends on whether the discussion is lore or gameplay. If you were to discuss the new oaths revealed, or how the game deals with certain powers, it would be very on topic. So long as that's the focus.

The three moons of Roshar have always been associated with the three shards, but what if we have all been  reading it wrong?

What if instead of representing Honor, Cultivation and Odium, the three moons represented the Wind, the Stones, and the nNight? That still doesn’t entirely explain the fourth moon, but with the way the system was set up before the shattering, to me it kind of makes sense.

No, take for example this fact, Ashyn is a planet, and one of the moons. Ashyn did not have the same investiture forms as Roshar. Braize likewise has its own investiture forms. They then, as different planets, with different invested systems, would not follow the investiture system of Roshar.

I tend to think about Mistborn a lot more than I tend to think about Stormlight. That’s because Twinborn being able to have seemingly two random powers is really interesting to me. Radiants have two powers as well, but they’re each locked into oaths, and every Radiant from every order has the same two surges. If you could mix and match any two surges from any two orders, which ones would you take and why?

I think that Cohesion and Division would be a really interesting combination. Break down a wall and then patch it right back up again behind you. What about you, what do you think?

I really want to see gravitation + abrasion

  7. There are answers to this, soulcasting fabrials being more restricted in material for example, or the unnecessary gemstone toll required for a minor output increase, but in the end it's because that's the way Brandon's world needed to be.

Came very close to hijacking @Nitpicking's topic on Vasher (Uh oh for Vasher), but I thought I'd be getting WAY too off topic. Still, let it be known that I blame Nitpicking for the fact that I'm digging through Arcanum and Coppermind entries this late at night 😜. I basically came across a few different (but possibly connected) facts while reading about Vasher and Nalthis in general that I now have thoughts on.

Fact 1: Vasher and Shashara were on Roshar least once before they created Nightblood (Nightblood is an "unsuccessful" attempt at creating an Awakener's version of a Shardblade).

Thoughts: Based on a WoB where Brandon didn't seem very sure if there was overlap between Vasher's previous visit(s) and the Sunmaker's crusade, I think it's safe to say that Vasher was on Roshar post-Recreance but not in Alethkar. I also think that he met Nale during this time. This is speculation based on the fact that Nightblood wound up in Nale's possession by the time of WoR. And also because the Skybreakers would have had the only 'living' Shardblades during the time of Vasher's visit; which would have been better inspiration for Nightblood's creation than a 'dead' blade.

Fact 2: Growing your hair with the Royal Locks makes you hungry (according to Siri). There's a WoB about this where someone points out this is similar to how Lift's abilities work.

Thoughts: This is where I'm going to start sounding crazy. But I'm wondering if Lift's weird ability to metabolize food into Investiture doesn't 100% come from Cultivation's boon. What if Lift is descended from Shashara? We know she's been to Roshar and that her brother has the Royal Locks. I don't see why she couldn't have had a child while she was there. It would also add a bit of an interesting element to Lift's upcoming mentorship from Vasher. I'm sure some of you are already thinking "if she had the Royal Locks, then her hair would change color". But would it? Isn't "not changing" the boon that she asked for? Maybe Cultivation simply kept the 'input' for her Royal Lock powers the same and only altered the 'output'.

Side note: I know there's WoBs saying it is just a coincidence that Vasher once went by the name Kalad; which is very similar to Kalak/Kaladin. And that Shashara being similar to Shallash/Shallan is also a coincidence... But I don't buy it. Once is a coincidence. But twice? I don't know about that.

Yes, I agree, you do sound crazy. You have a point, the use of investiture is similair, but heritage, no. I think this is solely related to investiture mechanics.

  9. This is a post to simply ask your opinion. Share any thoughts you want. For me I'd rate the books in the following order, though to be clear, I like them all:

    1. Words of Radiance

    2. The Way of Kings

    3. Rythm of War

    4. Wind and Truth

    5. Oathbringer

I could see the last two going either way for me, and I still like them, just not as much as 1-3. How would you rate them?

  10. When observing the platespren I noted something discordent, at least to my eyes. Here are the list of platespren:

    image.thumb.png.e038ec59e3270d467a8477d4067d8c92.png

The only type missing from this chart, but still confirmed, are the Bondsmiths, with gloryspren. Everything was symmetrical until the Stoneward and Truthwatcher plates came out. What do I mean by symmetrical? The emotion/nature dichotomy was evenly split in two hemispheres by the orders. It fit everything we knew. Then there's Truthwatcher, which would have had to have a nature-spren, and Stoneward, which 100% should have had a emotion-spren. What's happening? Did Sanderson just not care about this. Thoughts?

Do you know anyone who's playing? Because they may be able to share with you. Having a Demiplane subscription allows you to share your owned books with up to 24 other users (so GMs can give their players access).

I bought the books and none of my players had to. So, even if you don't want to play, if you know someone GM'ing a game, they may have some sharing slots open.

Yes, I received a pdf actually from a very kind total stranger online.

  12. "Eithan...well, Eithan would probably want to be a Willshaper." Eithan is an interesting character and to all who have read the books, I'd like to discuss it further. He's clearly a Willshaper, Lightweaver, or Elsecaller, but which I'm not sure. Truthwatcher would be another option, if we look at the Osmanthus Aurelius side of him, but less likely in my eyes.

Why do you put him as primarily Willshaper, and to others, what are your thoughts?

  13. Alright, so we all love Dragonsteels Order Quiz. It's fun and simple. That said, their are problems. The quiz for example has the same variables with the same importance for everybody. What if you consider yourself a guard dog edgedancer? What if you believe ends justify the means as a skybreaker. Many of the questions drown out what is important to each order. The long and short of it is that I think I solved this problem with the quiz I made: https://uquiz.com/u09BQ4

I hope you guys like it, and did you get the order you thought you would? If not, what order did it give you vs what order you think you are, and why do you think you are that order?

And thanks for taking the quiz. Not many people have complained about the old one, but the problems with it really irked me.
