  1. Doesn't Bat have relevant backstory things? Template turns into a pink sand sculpture, and is unable to move. Please fix me. Interesting. I can still think at you. And I am not dirt, which is odd.
  2. Template nods. "I think so. But the Narration manipulated me first, and this time it did not do anything to you. If you would like me not to do that, I will not."
  3. "The same way I got turned into one, but instead of it pulling me, I pulled it. It is hard to explain." They shrug.
  4. "I used your Narration to make me not a carrot anymore."
  5. Template the carrot turns back into a vague being. "I made me turn back because you did. Perhaps I should practice."
  6. Kion, hand on his dagger and focus words on his lips, steps into the cave.
  7. Kion steps forwards. "I will do it. I can hold my own, and my death is something I am prepared for."
  8. Yay! We’re not trapped in an endless stall! Kion nods. “That looks alarming, to say the least. But I suppose it is better than out here.”
  9. Nothing happens, but Template jumps up and down, shakes their head, then spins, trying to tell Bat something. Template is turned into a blue carrot, pulling away the Narration.
  10. I’ll put my paper cuts all somewhere that doesn’t usually touch things, like my ear, but put my opponent’s paper cuts on their eyes. You can cause things to combust by touching them, but you are still burned just as much as an ordinary person would be.
  11. Granted. Except rather than Lashings, you asked for lashings, so you can build stuff out of sticks and rope if you have a day of time to waste. Congrats! I wish for a perpetual motion machine.
  12. Cole grins. “Great! What should I do about the others? - they won’t let me go alone, although I suppose I could simply fly there. Either way, I should probably wake up now.”
  13. Template also turns into a rabbit, but Tam isn’t forced back. Unable to talk as a rabbit, they run around in panic.
  14. Template, still having more emotions than usual, laughs. “Really? I thought my state was completely normal. Now, as well as being messed with when other people want to mess with me, they change me when they don’t.” Their emotions fizzle out. “Maybe it will help me learn about myself, though. There is nothing normal, but maybe a pattern.”
  15. “I have no idea!” cries Template, panting. “It pulled at me - like it was reeling me in. It felt like that when people change me, but I’ve never taken a change before.”
  16. “That makes sense. If you do not want to tell me why that is, you do not have to. I might know already… I think I would find it hard unless it was pointed out to me, because it is a detail. As far as reality seems to know, I could be asleep right now. That indicates something about reality - the Thread - I believe, but I am not sure what.” Template nods. “That does sound nice. If everyone was happy, though, either they would not really be, or some would be made happy by the wrong things they desire. Either way, I think it is unethical if realized.” The Narration tugs away, and Tam’s transformation reverts. Instead, Template drops to the sand as a crab, scuttling around in confusion and panic.
  17. “That is likely useful - do you know why people need to sleep, or why you do not? Does it even matter?”
  18. “That makes sense, I suppose. The ocean is very patient.” They don’t really react when Tam stops being invisible. “If everyone else doesn’t need to sleep, do you think I do?” Template nods. “It is, though maybe I wouldn’t think it was if you didn’t.”
  19. Cole nods. “There are two of us, in more ways than two.”
  20. Cole, meanwhile, slept. He was dreaming: the Duke, his armor bloody, ate long, tangled noodles. Cole ran up to kill him, but before he could strike, the Duke and his meal turned to stone. Freedom, Gronk, the Earl, and a guitar cowered as a man made from sand walked forward, balancing a bottle of wine on his head to show he was a spirit. He hugged Cole, whispering a message in a language Cole didn’t understand. @Ookla the Dragonslayer
  21. Template lays down on the sand as well, not knowing about the telepathic conversation. “This is comfortable. Where do you think sand comes from?”
  22. For a brief moment the fact that light from Adtae’s sun prevents formation of shadows makes perfect sense, explaining where the energy comes from. Then Dr. Warren thinks about it too much and is bewildered again. She also makes Adtae create a paper-thing shadow, then tries to use the overlap to pass it through things, and attempts to bend it.
  23. Over the next hour or so, Dr. Warren has Adtae try creating shadow in different light conditions (infrared, ultraviolet, various light sources), tests the tensile strength and other physical properties of shadow, and interview Adtae more. She follows up on any interesting discoveries and is willing to answer any questions he has.
