The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
Through the Living Heir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
He brought Bacon to him so he could have another shard. Rebus hadn't been making any attacks, other than his attempt to take vengeance by shattering Vengeance. "You are not planning. You're magically corrupted and steamrolling past any opposition that has the decency to follow the rules. As for Master Plan, there's a reason Magnificent Bastard is a separate blade - which keyed off of my archetype, I may add." Rebus was attacking at several literally hypersonic speeds, using a shard that hadn't been there before. If Platypus can steal seven Plotblades before Rebus - who uses ansibles and utility fog to dodge things going at lightspeed - could react, I don't see how Platypus can turn around and no-sell the same tactic. If we want a stubbornness contest, though, that's fine with me. "Your calling card is barely related to you and yet has the potential to destroy the strongest magics here. You obviously engineered it, since if it existed before someone else would be using it, and you sent it to every Narrator in the Thread. That is a threat, and quite frankly I was justified in trying to break the thing that had showed up in my inner sanctum, sent by the person who had just killed me when I tried to talk to them. Listen to yourself, Platypus! There was a time where you fought people because you thought it had to be done - not because they attempted to talk to you!" The thing is, up until a couple days ago there was only three or four active plotlines left, and only three or four Authors. If only Platypus was listening to them.- 111828 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
Through the Living Heir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Alright (though since his only targets with the telepathy are Narrators, there's not much of a difference). By disappeared, you mean moved too fast to see directly towards him? "Really. No-selling your exact methods (which I am established as being able to use) is preparation? You're strolling around god-modding everything and calling it skill, and you believe a Plotblade is the defining cause of planning?" Rebus is holding it, though. I guess Platypus could pull it out of his hand, though he does have enhanced strength. "I am not the one failing to realize other's capabilities here." "No need for tricks? What do you call what you just did? Your plans do not need stopping - someone with true skill can use them instead." Rebus is literally still there, actively attacking him. What would you do, if you were to decide whom the Thread's protagonist is? Simply declare it yourself?- 111828 replies

He has my vote - how many do you think it needs? Rebus stopped smiling. “I would not do this if I were you. And I always tell the truth.” This was the truth, though he certainly would make such a plan in different circumstances. In fact, he had…- 111828 replies

Please do. Get Shoe, and try your best to sabotage any Nullite tricks Platypus will try, except the ones I can exploit. Oh, and if you really need it, you, Tam, and Cricket giving up your claim for it will give me Protagonist. Yes, they share memories unless something is stopping them from doing so. Tam, you should get as many allies as you have, and use whatever trap you planned for me on Platypus, as long as it won’t get in my way.- 111828 replies

Rebus began to laugh. “You think you’re so smart. You believe a metaphysicist Narrator with Magnificent Bastard can simply be stolen from like this? You think brute force can beat nearly a thousand pages of preparation? Perhaps you are right, but it won’t be this easy.” There was a sonic boom, and before Platypus could react, Bacon (@xinoehp512, I assume you remember accepting the teleporter) was where Rebus had been, and Rebus directly in front of Platypus, slamming Bacon’s shard into Vengeance. A normal clone. Only one clone and the original got a shard, so he doesn’t have one there.- 111828 replies

“I will - I myself should probably go do something else for a bit.” “I might be able to extract it from myself, or find a natural source of abstract concepts.” It was the beach, of course. “It’s Platypus’s fault - I speculated about it down below.” Rebus struck it with Magnificent Bastard. I suspect it might be pure Dark, or an otherwise highly altered version of the fundamental substances. Its properties resemble Nameless’s emergency intervention sphere.- 111828 replies

How fast? I'd think even something invincible would move if hit by such a thing, or if was immovable the railgun round would shatter into shrapnel or maybe deflect off at speed.- 111828 replies

“Alright - we should take that to PMs to nail down the details. Do we want to deal with the security clone elsewhere?” “I suppose I could acquire concepts in another way, as well…” The soul sent an impression of a beach and a direction, repeating the face. Here's the last thing in our conversation. Platypus appeared, killed a clone of Rebus after Rebus asked for Luxite, and somehow made a mystery metal appear at the feet of all the Narrators. It's invincible, teleports to the Narrator, absorbs Narration, grows when it touches Nullite, and has minor Mordite-like effects. Rebus had an idea, and had another clone make a box from Prismite.- 111828 replies

Rebus was rather disappointed - Ennuller souls were very hard to acquire, and probably unethical to extract as well. Rebus was somewhere ordinary - for bringing the strange invincible metal into a secured location seemed like a bad idea.- 111828 replies

Yeah - because it has the soul there it's more user friendly or something? Or maybe Malan is just evil? Oh. I suppose you're right. Rebus touched the piece of Nullite containing the trapped Ennuller soul to the shard, testing to see if it would kill like Mordite and/or absorb the soul, and whether the soul could survive such a thing and gain a new power set it could facilitate.- 111828 replies

An Ennuller core is made of Nullite, but the fact it is a core and still active means it regenerates power from ambient sources, and can still Ennull things. Effectively, he's attempting to place the still-alive soul of an Ennuller on the crystal.- 111828 replies

Narrators, Ennullers, presumably Luxsprites, and possible people with withergeist bonds have their relevant fundamental substance inside of them, forming a core that fuels their powers. (Even if that wasn't originally canon, it definitely is now - Xino's Ennulling lessons and several other plot points have hinged on it)- 111828 replies

Both - Rebus happens to know of a massive underground vein of Nullite very important to the people he is attempting to Antagonize. That was about what he expected - he would have to find an emulsifier, eventually. A mad scientist name Malan managed to extract Ennuller cores, keep the souls alive, and then use their powers. After he was killed, Rebus took them in case he ever needed an Ennuller soul for something.- 111828 replies

Perhaps he would speak to Platypus, once he'd finished causing problems. Rebus grinned. This was very interesting. He touched Prismite to another piece of Nullite, not sure if he'd ever tried that before. Then he summoned one of the eight live Ennuller cores he'd taken from Malan's body. Alright. I'll break that in a moment.- 111828 replies

First Nullite, then Prismite, then both, assuming nothing interesting happens first. Rebus would have loved to do that, except the last time he attempted to talk to Platypus he had been murdered.- 111828 replies

Rebus had expected as much. He teleported Nullite and Prismite to him, then touched them to the shard. Rebus raised an eyebrow. “You seem to have a latent talent for Thread Perception - a disregard for locality most often expressed by those with the power to change reality.” Rebus truly hated being unwritten - he felt every moment of that temporary death, unable to do anything, unable to escape, knowing that maybe this time it wouldn’t end and he would be forgotten.- 111828 replies

Rebus tried to take it with him as he teleported away again, but knew that he'd soon be stuck in that horrible oblivion when he was unwritten, and hence unable to do anything more for a time. Alright. I'll be back tomorrow.- 111828 replies

"If I may." @Ookla the Arbiter Rebus touched his shard to the one following Tam. I should really be asleep soon. "My name is Rebus, though I'm not in the same location as you." Rebus said, truthful on both counts. That was odd, but not unwarranted from something that might have at one point been Mordite.- 111828 replies
