    Simple: spend your time finding or writing a character who can grant powers or build devices, and would work with you. Especially a character with the power to make some spend 354 days in suspended animation, after granting them some other abilities. I cannot think of a good example right now, but I’m sure there is one. You have a year, after all. You can control which way plants you can see grow, and speed up their growth as long as there are enough nutrients.

    Rebus feels disappointment. In himself and in the world. There hadn’t been anything he could do? Now his old friend was possibly dead, he couldn’t see anything, and their thousand-page experiment had exploded. Kion, pretty sure Moni is Faceless, steps away again. He’d almost fallen for it.

    Rebus watches with excitement, but he knows foreshadowing when he sees it. To counter the ominous literary implications, he says “Luxite channels energy. We can use the last bit to stabilize the fluctuations if they get out of control.” Kion shrugs, and begins to walk out of the tunnel. “I’m probably being paranoid, but these Faceless sound clever. But I don’t think they read minds.” The Love twist was well done. It caught me by surprise, but now it feels obvious.

    Rebus’s eyes widen at the time this experiment had taken. Of course, there were likely faster ways to obtain Luxite. His initial idea is kidnapping Platypus, which he acknowledges as ill-advised, ethically dubious, and probably not that effective. Putting that aside, he downloads the plans for the drones and purifier, knowing that Narrating anything to do with fundamental metals is difficult. “No. I think I can continue our legacy if our progress here is undone.” He grins, readying utility fog and force fields to protect Balitan and himself. “Alright. Would you like to do the honors?” Kion almost walks out of the tunnel with Moni. Then he stops. “Wait… what did you ask me about, earlier? I was confused, briefly, and you explained the question to me.”

    Nope. It’s a functionally invincible construct of telekinetic force currently unable to reach the person it’s supposed to be hunting.

    The Rebus clone raises an eyebrow. “Who has it? Regardless, summoning the Witherlord will be detrimental to my long term goals. I’ve heard what happened to the Luxsprites.”

    He nods. “I’d meant the other process, for acquiring Luxite. Before you start this, you should tell me. We’re about to mix Morditite, after all. I’d bring you back, but it would be from memory.” Kion blinks. “What? Maybe I’m more tired than I thought.” After a moment of deliberation, he says “Restoration”, waking himself up.

    He nods. “The Dreamsmith trial apparently demands your full soul be present. So I’ve had to recall it from my clones. I’ll be back - consider everything I’ve said.” Rebus smiles. “Of course I’ll share my supplies. How does your procedure work?” He gathers his other fundamental metals while listening carefully to the explanation. The Rebus clone nods. “Thank you.” Then he cuts the connection, at least for now. The Rebus clone nods. “That has been found already. I have a transcript. Do I need to find the actual paper?” He’s suspecting the wind isn’t actually affiliated with Onyx, but perhaps he could help regardless. Kion shifts slightly. “I would say the same, but if you’re awake I didn’t need to be.”

    Rebus, now soulless, smiles. He doesn’t say anything more, however. “I want to make a difference, yes. Power is a tool that can be applied in many ways; this makes it useful for any task I need to accomplish.” His eyes go blank for a second as his soul is recalled, then he goes back to animation. “I can still make cursory agreements on my behalf, though I am no longer me. Narration-related payment or soul modifications will have to wait, however.” His eyes widen, and he grins. “Tell me everything. How can we synthesize such useful substances? The potential!” The Rebus copy nods. “Evil backstabbing for your own goals can be useful. I’d offer you a job, given your technical skills, but I’ve misplaced my soul. Once it’s back I may change my mind. But I don’t need you right now.”

    If people can intentionally say misspelled words that sound similar, you can set up meanings and receive secret messages. You can catalyze chemical reactions near you. Take that how you will.

    “Truly? What we’ve been working for all this time? What is the secret?” Not yet knowing what “it” is, Rebus begins to improvise. He wracks his brain for more modified memories, and looks around the laboratory for context. Artificial Rebus looks up, impressed Malevolence hacked his nanotechnology. “Interesting… how long have you been in this ‘world of evil’? It seems other evil people could benefit from these devices; a secret communication network that only works if their goals align with yours. It weed’s out heroic infiltration, too, though evil backstabbing wouldn’t be prevented unless you fine-tuned the device. Of course, it isn’t that important.”

    Rebus stands up and recalls his soul from the copies of him. They continue what they are doing, run by emulations of Rebus’s personality. “I was unaware of that limitation. Your pamphlet did not include it. Are there more rules?” He waits till they’re specified, then clasps Omen’s hand again. The now-artificial Rebus copy sighs. “How did you patent it, then? Oh - the employer who asked you to destroy your employers didn’t include any exceptions. Take that as you will. Oh, and I cannot hear you now.”

    Rebus nods solemnly, and takes Omen’s hand. A copy of Rebus back in his moon raises an eyebrow at the message. “That seems suspicious. I would take a communicator, though. I bet it’d be useful.”

    Rebus sets out for him, teleporting to random coordinates until Omen’s magic causes him to end up there. “You are Omen, I assume?” He’s as always surrounded by barely visible utility fog, and he’s wearing a new outfit, with a different combination of white, black, and glowing orange than before.

    Yay! It’s not dead! I can make candles by touching string with candles. Assuming the entire thing is covered with wax with one touch, this could let me entrap people if they touch any part of my ridiculously long string-turned-candle. Also, wax burns, which means I can get infinite energy. When you feel strong emotions, things around you start floating. This includes you. You can’t direct the objects and they fall gradually as they get farther away or you get calmer.

    I’d do it, if you want. The Render keeps building towers and walls from the Endless Field. Some are there for no reason, but from above, the structures write “PLEASE LET ME OUT”. Smaller patterns inside the large one say things like “I AM STUCK HERE” and “WHERE IS THE MAGE”.

    The pterodactyl sadly flies away. Suddenly, a wyvern swooped down and ate it.

    Template grins madly. "Sure! I don't know if it will work, though." True. Although most of the sandwiches, including the telepathic one, seem to have been eaten.

    The pterodactyl swooped into the room and started gobbling down even more birds. Rebus grins at Ryss (@Ancient Elantrian). "Is this close?"

    The sandwich telepathically wails in pain. A pterodactyl suddenly swooped down and ate the bird, then flew away. "Maybe, but I'm crazier than the other one who is crazier than I am."

    The sandwich would nod eagerly, but it is a sandwich. "I can? That would be nice, so nobody eats me." Template smiles again, springing to their feet. "What would? You're welcome, fellow crazy person."

    Template smiles broadly and spins around in a circle. "That sounds fun. That person and I can be insane together." They tackle @WhiteHairedDrifter, trying to help Celena. "I was a sandwich earlier. You can eat me instead!" The sandwich continues to be a sandwich. I don't know what that is. I'm a sandwich.

    Template, who was not the telepathic sandwich Trellin found, stops being a sandwich. "What kind?"

    One sandwich speaks back. Please help. I'm a sandwich, and would like to not be one.
