Well, I tried to play D&D recently, and I'll tell you what happened. I walked in kinda late, but that might be a good thing because it saved my character, who we decided had not been introduced yet.
THE STORY:
The party had been imprisoned for, apparently, cannibalism. Because they don't like being imprisoned, they start fighting the guards. One player pulls out a rifle and shoots a hole through a guard's breastplate. Another pulls out... a bazooka. So the DM has him roll, and he gets a nat 20. This, of course, destroys all the guards, but in such a crowded space, it also does damage to everyone else, too. And a lot of damage at that. All the other players start rolling to see how much damage they take, and, would you look at that? EVERYBODY DIES EXCEPT FOR THE GUY WHO SHOT THE BAZOOKA. The DM announces this very calmly and casually, as if he is used to his party getting TPK'd on a regular basis. It was a very strange occurrence, that's for certain.
