  1. “You can. You should.”
  2. “It…I don’t think it was your fault. I shouldn’t have treated you the way I did.”
  3. “So…was it really only three days for you?”
  4. Should she give him a chance? She wanted to, so bad. But…what if it was just another trick? She looked up at his face, and, even after the long year, it was all she needed. Any chance was worth anything he could do to her. ”Ok. I…I trust you, I think. Or at least, something strange happened.”
  5. “I want nothing to do with you and your lies Tayen.”
  6. “Yes, you should have,” she said harshly.
  7. “Every moment you spent letting me rot,” she said with derision.
  8. “Obviously you didn’t care enough to notice.”
  9. “Yes I spent a year! Why would I say I haven’t?”
  10. “You should have come for me. If you loved me you would have.”
  11. “Don’t try to lie to me.”
  12. “A year. A year and you didn’t even notice.”
  13. “A little while? A LITTLE WHILE!” She broke down, sobbing.
  14. “No. You left me. You said you wouldn’t, but I can’t trust you. So I can’t trust anything you say.”
  15. Helda ran to the one place she knew find shelter. She found it just as she had left it, the door still open, inviting. It felt empty without him there though. She rested, and was about to leave…
  16. Helda cried for what she had lost. It had been so tempting to go back to him, to pretend he loved her, but he didn’t. He wouldn’t have let her stay there if he loved her.
  17. She still didn’t respond, quickly leaving him behind, crying all the way.
  18. She didn’t look at him. He had left her, she wouldn’t go back and get hurt again, no matter what he claimed.
  19. She ignored him still, tears streaming down her face. She didn’t want his excuses.
  20. She sped up, ignoring him.
  21. She ignored the man, then looked at Tayen and immediately looked away, walking in the other direction.
  22. She didn’t respond, she just stood and walked to him.
  23. Helda had long since given up hope of being rescued. She’d once believed that Tayen would come, that he would save her, but he’d left her again. She couldn’t even hate him, couldn’t shed tears, those were long past. She waited, she’d been waiting for a long time, but she’d waited before. This was harder than normal, but it was only a year. Only a year…without him. She was over it. She had to be. She’d find another meaning to her life after she was released.
