“I hate myself.” She stood and ran away from him.

She just kept sobbing, pointedly avoiding looking at him.

She ignored him again, sobbing.

She pushed Tayen away, head between her knees.

She stepped back and sank to the floor, weeping.

“Yes. How long was my imprisonment?”

Helda stood, waiting.

She went with him, feeling confused.

She let him, looking back at him seeming without emotion.

“Yes.”

“Ok.”

“…” she didn’t know how to respond. She had promised herself she wouldn’t go back to him, yet here she was.

“I hope so.”

“I wonder if she is. I can’t find another reason for all that has happened.”

“Except fate herself.”

“No, I’m not.” She clung to him tighter.

“…no.”

She clung to him, but something felt wrong. She shouldn’t be doing this, he’d left her again. He claimed different…did she believe him?

“You. I want you. That’s all I wanted.”

“But…nevermind. Thank you.”

“I guess that makes sense. I couldn’t imagine what I’d do if you went through everything I did then treated me like I did you.” She pulled herself tight against him.

“You shouldn’t be sorry. You did what you should have.

“No. You were right to do what you did.”

She put her head in his shoulder, sinking into the embrace and sobbing. “I’m so sorry.”
