My mom has installed a rootkit on my phone so she knows I'm out with friends where I'm supposed to be, and not getting drunk at a bar or some other absurd idea teens get up to. Today, the GPS de-synced and she tried to get it to re-sync, and gave it access to my whole phone, because the creators never made a "re-sync" button. The rootkit in question feels less like "I want to know where my kid is at so he doesn't run off to some drug place while with friends" and more "I'm the helicopter mom of some NSFW artist and I want to know if he's h*rny for some random girl in his church class, (he's not.) and I am going to break every privacy law in existance to do it." Once I'm through with homework, I'm gonna comb through it so my mom isn't spammed with "your kid tried to search for Pathfinder 2e on YouTube, but we stopped him, because D&D is evil!" and "Your kid offloaded our virus!" in her notifications.
