  1. "Heyheyhey, calm down!" She leaned slightly over with her arms out in front of her. "Everything's fine!"
  2. She set Pic down on a bed. (@Cash67) This is going way too slow. About fifteen feathers zipped from varying pockets on the inside of her coat, which was more of a jacket, and scattered throughout the clinic looking for the injured.
  3. Akarui wrapped Pic's arms around her shoulders like backpack straps and dragged him to the med wing. @shortcake
  4. She flew around the rest of the floor that was burning and put out the rest on the upper floor.
  5. She flew up to the other floor and made another strong wind to put out the fires.
  6. "How far did they spread? Two floors each way? One?"
  7. "Okay." She made herself visible. She pushed the fire away from herself a ways, enough to release her wings, which spanned more than her height. With a powerful beat, she generated a wind that put out a decent chunk of the nearby fire.
  8. "I'm going to need you to go into detail for me. What in the McDonald's ball pit is going on here? Why did you just go ballistic?" The voice sounded like Aventine's, but firmer and more confident. Not unkind, though.
  9. Still invisible, Akarui landed on the floor near him and walked, circling around him. She had taken a third feather from her coat and held it in her hand.
  10. Her wings would have burned up if she released them. So, she activated one of the abilities she had accidentally gotten from her friend. She floated in the air as if in a tank of water. In some part of her, Akarui knew that this was the man Aventine was in love with. She moved through the air over to him and grabbed him. While she was strong, this was something that was harder for her to handle. Another invisible feather sprang out from another pocket of her coat that went to mid-shin. It crept under his shirt and pulled him away from the conflict, on his back in the entryway near Lundyn. @shortcake
  11. The feather zipped down the stairs - fast, but not crazy. Once it had started to fly, it became visible, and it was a light purple color. It set Lundyn near the entrance to the clinic.
  12. She ran into something invisible. Akarui turned, seeing the terrified little girl in the midst of the chaos. Just like Eri had been. She went into her coat and pulled out one of her feathers. Fortunately, her wings had just molted. She put the feather in Lundyn's hand and closed her fingers around it. "Hang on tight, okay?"
  13. If he keeps going like that, he's going to get hurt. Maybe even killed. Not on my watch. Still invisible, Akarui bent the fire around her to protect herself. She was resistant to being burnt. She'd use that. Jar Man felt a hand press onto his back for a split second. The fire impacted his body much less than it would have before. Akarui's resistance to fire returned to that of an average person. Keeping it away from herself was more lucrative now.
  14. As she hurriedly made her way to the eighth floor, her tin allowed her to hear the crackling fire and screaming clinic habitants. Uh, do any of you have anything that helps with fire? Yeah, I do. The girl who’d gotten her on her feet. Take over. Without stopping once, the switch happened - and she shrank. The thing was, Akarui was short. But that didn’t make her any less powerful. Two lavender wings appeared on her back and she flew up the rest of the way. When she saw the decimated floor, she knew she was in the right place. Her feet hit the ground and her wings disappeared. While she had abilities that helped with fire, her wings would burn up quickly if they caught fire. Akarui made herself invisible and snuck over to Tal, controlling the fire to avoid her skin. @Edema Rue
  15. Aventine kept crying. There wasn’t much Trevor or the crow could do to help. That didn’t mean another (part) bird couldn’t. A girl visible to only her sat on the floor in front of her. Her airy golden hair went down to her shoulders. Her eyes were an incredible yellow. Thinking it was another person, Aventine said, “I’m not in the mood to talk right now.” ”Fine,” the girl said. Her voice was identical, not only to Aventine’s, but to Sass’s, and what Tena’s had used to be. “Just listen then. I know you feel horrible right now, but you can still help.” ”Help? All that’ll do is make things worse.” ”No, no, no. Get out of your head. Sometimes, you are your own greatest enemy. You can still help. The people here need you.” ”This is my fault. I didn’t realize what would happen if I took away Tal’s fear…” ”That doesn’t mean you can’t help. You have a vial of metals. Get out there and ignore the voices in your head. They’re wrong about you, just like how mine used to be wrong about me.” The blonde girl set a hand on Ave’s knee. “You can still do something to help. Keep moving. That’s the only way things are going to get better.” “You heard a voice in your head too?” ”A few years ago, yes. But I eventually realized how wrong it was.” Aventine pulled out her metal vial. “You’re another me, aren’t you?” The girl smiled. “Call me Akarui,” she said as she faded. Aventine looked at where she had been, then down at the vial. You are your own greatest enemy. She stood up and swallowed the vial. She wiped her tears and made her way to the eighth floor.
  16. She was alone. Whether that was good or bad, Aventine didn’t know. It simply was. Alone, apart from the echoes of her father’s voice in her head. Telling her just how powerless and worthless she was, unable to do anything to help anyone. But the truly sad part was, she thought she agreed. She sat alone, huddled in the corner with her face buried in her knees. Abandoned. With no one around who cared. Nothing new. She was cold. It wasn’t just the room, although that was part of it. The floor and walls were cold, yes, but that cold was different. This cold was empty. It sought to encapsulate, to capture everything about her. Inside of her, a war raged. About half of her wanted the empty cold to win. That would be so much easier. Then she would at least know she would be hurt. She wouldn’t have to go through this pain, this… this turmoil of emotion. The other part, however, had no intention of just letting that happen. That held on to the warmth she felt around those she cared about… those she loved. Like Jar Man. Like Elan. Like Rue. Like Pic. At this point, she didn’t know which side she wanted to win. Because while the side that craved warmth was often the one that made her feel cold. The one that tried so badly to help, but only seemed to cause more pain. Trevor and the crow hopped over sadly. Trevor made soft, kind sounds. Aventine lifted her head from her knees. “Sometimes I wish I were heartless,” she told the birds. “That I didn’t feel. Maybe then I wouldn’t feel this ache whenever I care so much.”
  17. She waited for pain that didn't come. But she had been wrong before. It would, it would, it always would. Just like every other time. Every other time her arm was grabbed. Every other time she'd been pulled. Every other time the belt had wrapped her arms. Every other time he got too angry. She moved her arm and saw that Addison was gone. She went into a dark and shadowed corner, not in the cell, sat with her back to the walls, and sobbed. @Cash67
  18. Her breathing became tight and restricted, and her arms flew to cover her head.
  19. Her eyes squeezed shut and her head turned away sharply.
