Aventine couldn’t move. She was in too much pain to do so, both physically and emotionally. Not only had she lost her son (and an argument could be made for twice), she’d lost Elan again.
She focused on keeping her breathing steady. A girl she didn’t know came down the hallway.
“What happened here?” she asked.
Ave shook her head. “It- it hurts too much to say.”
”Well… can I do anything to help?”
She sighed, now seeing Jar Man. “If you could take him to his room, help me get to mine, and…”
She looked at Lukas’ body. She couldn’t just leave him there.
“… and cremate him, and bring me the urn.”
The woman did as Ave had asked, splitting into clones to get it all done. She helped Ave to her room and laid her on the floor at her request.
And the tears began to flow again.
