“No. My mother did. Someone smuggled it and a few other things from my home into the palace a few weeks after I arrived.”

She took off her necklace and placed it in his hand. It was nothing like what you’d expect an emperor’s daughter to wear. The twine “chain” was very cheaply made, slightly scratchy but not uncomfortable. The only charm on it wasn’t a gem, but a common stone of some sort.
