    Lerac touched his neck, where his drooping head had hidden a fresh cut in the exact shape that Insa's scar had had. His fingers came back bloody. "...Yes?" He looked at her worriedly. "I'm sorry. I was trying to defend us. There isn't really any other way for me to do that anymore."

    Lerac seemed to regain his awareness. "...Ow." --- TAAron leaned against her tiredly. "Leftover energy from them... I have to use Malum's if I do something violent."

    TAAron didn't seem to need to be told, as the light quickly dissipated into the air, and he stumbled backward in a daze. --- Veyendis had no luck. As soon as he touched Lerac, he felt a rush of warmth fill him, as happened to anyone who touched him. Attempting to heal him felt like trying to stop a crashing wave by throwing a bucket of water at it; Lerac's own healing energy easily reversed and outweighed Veyendis' attempt. She felt one, as well as the warmth that came from touching him directly. Both she and Veyendis lost any traces of pain or soreness that they had had.

    He tensed again as she moved him, and groaned softly. His pain did not seem to be fading as rapidly as it normally would. @InfiniteInsanity

    The light around TAAron shifted suddenly to a bright violet. Haly recognized it as the color associated with TAAron's world's now-dead evil god, Malum. Without thinking or understanding what he did, TAAron inflicted pain on the spider, searing and unadulterated. --- Lerac gasped in pain, going tense and crumpling to the ground.

    TAAron shot up to his feet, immediately getting surrounded in a golden glow. "Nothing," Lerac lied. He knew the feeling of resistance from Death, a warning not to proceed. But Death wouldn't stop him, and whatever it was, he could handle it. He touched Insa's forehead, and she immediately felt a rush of healing warmth that erased the pain and the scar.

    He smiled and shrugged. "It's alright, I didn't mind." Lerac reached out, but paused for a moment, tilting his head like he was hearing something odd.

    Lerac approached her. "Well, I can try now." TAAron wasn't so tired, but he was happy to just stay there with her.

    His heart also gave a leap, though it soon settled down to a comfortable rhythm as he leaned in too, feeling a wave of relief and contentedness.

    TAAron sat with her in silence, not entirely sure what he should do or how he should proceed.

    "Anything else you want to talk about?"

    "Okay." He smiled at her, and she got the impression of it even though she couldn't see it while turned away.

    "Are you sure? It's okay if you'd rather not."

    "Ah. Well, I'm fairly sure I can help her. But if you'd like to try first, be my guest. It could make things a bit easier for me, if nothing else." --- "But I thought..." He sighed, apparently frustrated. "I thought I had this figured out. At least partially. Anyway, it could mean that you unintentionally share thoughts and feelings with me. Do you want that?"

    Lerac looked mildly curious. "Why the bird?" He shrugged. "It's alright. I'm still learning how it all works. Sometimes I can make connections with people, or I can-" He stopped, frowning. "Is there a magical connection between us right now? I thought I removed that..."

    "Oh. Yeah. In the fight with Kaos, both Bonum and Malum were destroyed. That means everything and everyone from my home world are gone... anyway. It seems like I sort of inherited at least some of that power. But I'm not a mistborn anymore, and my hemalurgic spike is gone. It seems like the new powers pushed the old ones out. That's what the golden light was, earlier." "Would you like me to heal you?"

    "Like what?" Lerac walked in, and frowned upon seeing Insa. "Are you alright?"

    "...Okay." He shuddered slightly. Lerac waved back.

    "It was my fault. And I could have tried, anyway..." Lerac appeared at the entrance to the library.

    He nodded. "Of course. Whatever happens, I'm here for you. I don't intend to lose you again." She could feel his resolve and care as much as she could see it in his eyes, along with a burning self-reproach.

    "I can see that. Things change without you, people come and go..." Haly again got the uncanny impression that she was feeling something from him, this time a sharp twinge of pain. It showed on his face as a brief tightening of his expression before it softened again, his eyes meeting hers. "I'm sure you probably felt lonely when you came here the first time, right? With time, it'll probably get better."

    "You do belong here. And if you don't want to stay anyway, I'll go with you." There was no hesitation in his voice.
