    "How do you know you will recover?"

    He looked at her worriedly. "If I take away the connection, then we'll need to figure out how to fix whatever's going on quickly. You were only disconnected for minutes, so we don't know how bad it could get."

    "I don't want you to get hurt either. If the connection helps you feel normal, I can leave it. I'll be okay."

    He looked unsure. "I think I should keep it."

    "Yeah, do you think that's what caused the grayness?"

    "What about your magic?"

    "And you didn't feel normal earlier?"

    "How do you feel?"

    He nodded, although he really wasn't. He closed his eyes and entered the strange state as golden light began to rise from his body. It only took a few moments to create the connection between them. Doing things with his power was staying to feel much more natural. He opened his eyes, and was once again aware of her mind in the strange way the connection allowed.

    "If it has nothing to do with you, I'll take it away again."

    "I'll be fine."

    "Yes, but... I'm just going to put the connection back, to see." He looked apprehensive of this.

    "Do you know why things would turn... gray?"

    He considered. "Could it have to do with me splitting the connection? I didn't think it would have a bad effect on you other than the initial shock..."

    "Things looking gray."

    "When did this start happening?"

    "I think something's wrong." He looked her over closely, like there was something wrong physically about her that he must have missed.

    "Is there anything else that looks odd?"

    He looked down, and his expression grew more concerned. "I don't think so... Are you sure everything feels alright? Or normal, at least?"

    "Does anything else look strange?"

    "I wouldn't call anything to there a 'swirly'."

    He frowned. "Are you alright?"
