  1. "I told you that you don't have to do that. I feel... fine." He wasn't very convincing.
  2. "Where are we going?"
  3. "What are you doing?"
  4. "It is merited. I've thought about this a lot, even if my mind has been... cursedly stagnant."
  5. "Who says I deserve better?" Variance's image fuzzed again, and this time, it changed. The blood was gone, and his clothing had changed from a cloak to a simple shirt and pants. Without the blood, his eyes were quite striking in their glowing violet. "See? I'm fine anyway."
  6. "Whatever you see fit. I am in your debt." "I told you, I can handle it. It just caught me off guard then."
  7. "I'm not sure what I am. But my human self was killed some time ago. If that could be done to me again, I imagine I wouldn't have been imprisoned, just executed." "It's hard to keep track of time, but I believe so."
  8. "I've been feeling pain for millions of years. I can handle it." "I'm already dead, remember?"
  9. "That seems like a low bar." He began twitching again, and gritted his teeth, trying firmly to keep it under control.
  10. "Why? What am I to you?"
  11. "I'm sure I'll be fine without their... treatment. I can weather whatever this curse entails." Variance did not sound very confident.
  12. "I wouldn't want to do anything that could put either of you in danger... Do you think it's safe to go meet with these people when we have someone with a bounty?"
  13. "I won't ask that of you. Besides, the magic involved in this is very... obscure." Variance lifted himself up, carefully. "If there's more to this than I first realized, I'm worried about what other elements there might be to this curse. I don't know if it's been long enough for that group of mine to dissolve..." @Channelknight Fadran @Szeth_Pancakes
  14. The spasming ceased, and Variance laid on the ground for a moment, breathing heavily. "That was... unexpected. Which isn't a good sign."
  15. Variance suddenly began spasming, staff dropping to the ground and scattering into little points of light. He coughed blood, and fell to the ground.
  16. Variance nodded. He rubbed his eyes, hand coming back stained red. "That's quite a lot of blood."
  17. "...Ah. I apologize. It was easier, and likely less painful than your head or stomach."
  18. "I don't see what you mean. You seemed fine with the other thing I did."
  19. "Yes. Normally, that would be the extent of it, but I can also do things like this." Ayia felt a strong shove on her chest, pushing her back.
  20. "There certainly is." Suddenly, Ayia's vision doubled, then shifted, as though she were severely dizzy.
  21. "I was a human being who gained access to a perception-based form of magic. It is ancient, primarily used for illusions. Uniquely, I gained the ability to manifest things with a much greater impact on reality, like this staff. I'm still not entirely sure how it works or what it is capable of. Anyway, now that I was killed, I am no longer human. I am not entirely sure what I am."
  22. "When I wish to." He spun it around in his hand. "I'm just seeing how much is coming back to me, and how fast."
  23. Meanwhile, in the corner, Variance formed a long staff out of violet light in his hand.
  24. "Ah." The light beneath Variance's skin also became a pulsing violet. They looked down at it, smiling slightly.
  25. "What's that noise?"
