  1. "I guess not." He smiled back, though it was much more natural and warm than hers. "Thank you."
  2. He gave her arm a small squeeze, then let go. The feeling remained for longer this time, and it was easier to hold on to.
  3. Eventually, TAAron spoke up. "You can tell me when you think you're ready to stop." @Edema Rue
  4. TAAron didn't care to break the silence, so he just continued to sit with her.
  5. Interesting. I was kind of going for sort of unusual thought processes that don't seem like normal human reactions. Having that from a perspective character is an idea I borrowed from a short story I really like called "To Build a Fire" by Jack London. I guess the vocabulary and tone I used could be sort of British. The ultimate goal was strange, off-putting, maybe creepy. I don't know.
  6. Write a dialogue between two characters that ends with one of them dying. It ended up not being that much of a dialogue...
  7. Well, I have not added to the story I have in theory been working on, but I did do a little scene based on a prompt @Edema Rue gave me. Here it is, for anyone who's interested. Thoughts and feedback are appreciated.
  8. TAAron didn't assume any particular meaning of the reaction. He simply enjoyed the moment.
  9. He touched her arm again, and closed his eyes. After a short while, he began to glow again, and the feeling returned. He held it there for much longer this time.
  10. "Not one more time? Before we go back to this whole ordeal?"
  11. "Soul magic. I sort of took an instinctive path that I found. It felt like something that I had already done before, even though I hadn't." He paused. "I stopped because I... wasn't sure how you'd react."
  12. After just a few seconds, TAAron let his arm drop and opened his eyes. The sensation was no longer being placed upon Rue, though it wasn't immediately lost.
  13. TAAron did not answer as wisps of light rose from his body. They shifted to red, and Rue felt a sudden emptiness. Not something unpleasant or disconcerting. It was calming, liberating. A break from constant thoughts, worries, and fears. Like the feeling one might get when looking into the night sky and observing the stars, not thinking but merely watching as they twinkled and formed little patterns.
  14. TAAron reached up and touched her arm, then closed his eyes.
  15. "I find that it's easier to think after not thinking, for a moment."
  16. "Can you try to stop for a moment, too?"
