  1. Helda felt a hint of pain spread through her. It wasn't much more than an annoyance, but it was reminiscent of what she had just experienced.
  2. "I think you'd rather not find out..." Tayen reached out for the gemstone.
  3. "You will not," he said simply. It's okay. I can do it.
  4. "You, my friend, may be very important. You have the highest magical capacitance of anyone I have tested. I'd rather not let such an opportunity slip through my fingers..."
  5. "You will stay here to complete more tests. He may stay or go, but if he stays he must complete the tests as well."
  6. Then we can both go. Carab piped in. "I'm afraid that won't be happening either."
  7. I'm not leaving you. It'll be alright, I promise.
  8. Tayen shook his head vehemently as Carab picked up the gemstone, which had fallen from Helda's hand.
  9. "Well I'm afraid I will have to send him away if he cannot complete the test."
  10. "You, my friend, have a very high magical capacitance! You have just passed the first test! I will need to do the same for your friend there..." Tayen looked at her with deep concern, still holding her close in his arms.
  11. Tayen cried out and went to her side, holding her. Carab chuckled.
  12. Just then, unimaginable pain shot through her. It was all the burning of the fire that had consumed her, but all at once and duplicated in every part of her body and mind. It lasted for what could have been seconds or hours, then vanished.
  13. As Mae reached the point of recovery, she slowly began to feel Envoy's familiar presence again.
  14. Some weird guy entered the restaurant.
  15. "Not now!" Carab's eyes glinted as he watched Helda. Tayen found himself growing uncomfortable. @Lightweaver2
  16. Carab handed her the gemstone. Nothing seemed to happen. The man raised his eyebrows. "Oh dear."
  17. Tayen looked at her with concern.
  18. Carab unlatched the box and removed a small, dark blue gemstone. He wore gloves as he held it out to them with a wickedly gleeful smile. "Who's first?"
  19. "Ah, but this pain bypasses the mind. Any tolerance you expect to have built will likely not be helpful."
  20. "I will test you both for magical capacitance. It is... often painful."
