    She nodded, feeling suddenly both afraid for him and fiercely protective. “I won’t. I swear, not if you don’t want me to. What story?”

    “It’s okay.” She squeezed his shoulder for a moment. “I forgive you.”

    Depends. I don’t have a spike for volunteering in drama, but I have a spine for succeeding in it. TPBM has had a very dramatic entrance in a play.

    She slipped an arm around his shoulders. “You’re okay now,” she whispered.

    Mitis reddened. “Oh, it was… me?”

    “Haly can’t use her magic anymore.” “Please don’t.” She grabbed his arm. “Mitis… so I’m… normal now?” ”Its a temporary fix. You can break the seal if you need to… though I wouldn’t recommend it. There’s a huge amount of pressure behind those valves.”

    She clung to him, scared of the same thing. If Rylla can do that to me and I don’t even know it… ”I’ve sealed your valves to this power,” Mitis told her. “Unfortunately… that means all of it.” ”Wait… all of it?”

    She hesitated, stuck between two very strong emotions. Mitis walked over, concern in her eyes. “Just a second.” She knelt by Haly and touched her knee, closed her eyes, and stayed that way for a minute or two. Then she finally opened her eyes. Haly gasped, then turned to TAAron. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean—I’m sorry!”
