    She revealed a long but shallow cut across the palm of her hand. She was bleeding. “No! Ow!” She looked at him quizzically, biting her lip against the pain. “The what?” “Oh, shut up,” she snapped, and kicked his sword back to him. She stomped her foot several times, holding her injured hand.

    That made him happy. He still felt kind of panicked inside, and nervous, and kind of like a worm, but he got to hug her and make her be less sad. I really do love her.

    She pushed her hand across the sword’s edge, then yelped and pulled away. “OW! Sujih ke tol sivul, OW!”

    “It’s okay. You were just trying to— it’s fine. Really, it’s okay. I really shouldn’t have lost it like that.” He kissed her hair.

    Spren knocked her on the head. “That’s a bad way to think and very false!” - “I WANNA PET HIM I WANNA PET HIM!” Elliot abandoned his drum set, ran over, pet the cub and cooed at him, and then went back to his drums and promptly faded away.
