  1. If Shardholders don't remember their names, what does Sazed call himself? Preseruin?
  2. To be fair, Dalinar was rather preoccupied with other things. He was frantically trying to get information from the king, and also to get him to write his book. He was also so stunned by the destruction he saw before him that he momentarily forgot to stay in character. I wouldn't fault him for not remarking on the similarity of thunderclasts to chasmfiends.
  3. Remember the scene where Dalinar talks to Jasnah through spanreed, and Shallan copies a drawing from a book? How the image looked like a chasmfiend, but not exactly so? How Jasnah said the book called it a Voidbringer? Page 415:
  4. Also, sorry for giving you a hard time earlier. This wasn't something a non-codemonkey could have solved.
  5. It's been a day, and my session is still valid. Not absolute proof, but I'm encouraged, since this hasn't happened before.
  6. A single gift and curse is what the Nightwatcher does. Nobody said it's all s/he can do. My main reason for assuming the Old Magic is Shard-powered is that every magic system in the Cosmere we've seen to date has been Shard-powered. Though I do have to wonder, what powers Hoid? Hmm...
  7. I just read the Elitist Book Reviews review. First, I agree with their assessment to a scary degree. Second, they say that section 5 was, in fact, originally a series of epilogues. That must be what Peter was alluding to.
  8. The first thing I did didn't work. BUT! I have now found the line of code where the error is triggered, which means that I know what conditions cause the error, WHICH MEANS that I can definitely fix it. If you're curious, what follows is a bunch of nerdery. Here is the code that triggers the error: // Verify that they aren't changing user agents on us - that could be bad. if ((!isset($_SESSION['USER_AGENT']) || $_SESSION['USER_AGENT'] != $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']) && empty($modSettings['disableCheckUA'])) So, this is a check to see if the user's User Agent has changed since the session began. There are two conditions that can trigger the error. The first is that the User Agent string is missing from the session; I'm not sure what would cause that. The second is if the UA string in the session does not match the value provided by the server, which was in turn provided by the client that initiated the request. Now, I'm not 100% sure on this, but this could be caused by the web page preview fetchers of browsers like Safari and Chrome. Safari uses a separate process to fetch the web page preview images that it displays in the "top sites" page, and I believe that Chrome does the same. This process sends a different UA than the browser it serves, but it shares the same cookies
  9. I watch Vlogbrothers because they make me laugh, but I don't know if I would identify myself as a nerdfighter. Most nerdfighters seem to be maniacally obsessed with the Greens, and I just am not.
  10. I believe Bavadin to be the Nightwatcher. Hoid lumps him in with Rayse when he talks about his grudge; the way he phrases it implies the grudge is against both of them at once, not two separate grudges, and that he's on Roshar "perpetuating" that grudge against both of them. The Almighty is dead, so the Nightwatcher has the only other Shard besides Odium left on Roshar. Of course, we don't know what his Shard is called.
  11. Heh. There's a reason for this. Might that reason be that it is, in fact, an extended epilogue?
  12. FYI, I've copied the epigraphs to the Wiki, complete with a link to this topic. Feel free to contribute to that page.
  13. I did something that may have fixed it. Time will tell of course. If you experience the issue again, please report it here.
  14. This topic has been moved to Suggestion Box and Site Issues. [iurl]http://www.17thshard.com/forum/index.php?topic=96.0[/iurl]
  15. Well, it certainly did win me over by the end. There is a metric ton of awesome in this book. The world, the characters, even the action sequences
  16. Kaladin won't get Plate because it interferes with Surgebinding. Or, well, maybe it doesn't if one has taken the oath of the Knights Radiant.
  17. Could it be that thing that Gavilar gave to Szeth? What *is* that thing, anyway?
  18. I'd offer to help, but I've got my hands full with the rest of the site. I actually did take a look at it one day, but the 20 minutes I put into it weren't enough. It's harder to troubleshoot since I don't know everything that's been done since the forums were installed. What I should have done is just reinstalled from scratch back before we had any forum traffic. But I didn't want to step on your toes, and I did have my hands full with the rest of the site...
  19. Yeah, the hardback is too pretty to deface. The staff is Rubix (Josh), firstRainbowRose (Mi'chelle), Shivertongue (Will), Ryan, and I. [Note to Josh, has Chris even registered here yet? What a slacker ] Our getting of ARCs is independent of being on the staff of this site. No i know, I just want to know how one persues staffdom. If you'll fix the session timeout bug in this here forum, I'd take you. (Seriously. I had to delete cookies twice just to make this post. Frickin' Eric. ;D) Joking aside, I'm afraid staffdom is by invitation only. You have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, which is what happened to me.
  20. Sick and wrong, dude. Sick and wrong. I could see having one to loan and one to keep. All my BS books but Warbreaker are on loan, so if I want to look stuff up I'm stuck. Hasn't really been an issue, but with WoK it might be. Maybe I'll just refuse to loan this one...
  21. I like the idea that Atium+Lerasium=Feruchemist. I like it mostly because Sazed said (well, wrote) that Feruchemy is "of the balance" between Ruin and Preservation.
  22. I'm about a third of the way through. So far: the Dalinar/Adolin chapters tend to drag on (except for when they don't, and then they're the best in the book), the Kaladin flashbacks are rather less interesting than his present circumstances, and I'm about 80% sure that Wit is Hoid. The interior art is beautiful and really enhances the book. I want more from the other two "main players" (Szeth and Shallan, I think her name is). Also, the thing is plotted like a WoT book, and it doesn't feel like it's really going anywhere. I'm sure the remaining 650 pages will win me over, but so far I've enjoyed this less than Brandon's other works.
  23. Pizzaspren shift between two forms: red and round like a pepperoni; long, yellow and stringy like cheese. They are the bane of pizza delivery drivers. Procrastinationspren buzz like little black flies around the head of anyone who'd rather not do that important thing they should be doing. Fartspren are marble-sized brown globs that appear to celebrate particularly pungent flatulence.
  24. If I hadn't been running on 3 hours of sleep...and hadn't had class at 9:30 the next morning...well, perhaps I would have joined in the fun. Instead, my inner grumpy old man kicked in, and I showed up at 11:55, bought my book, said hi to Josh and Mi'ch, bugged Dan for a bit, and left. Glad to know it was good times for others, though.
