  1. My neighbour told me that Hoid appeared in a bunch of Brandon's books, so I started looking for Hoid in Skyward. Later, I realized he was in Warbreaker, and then when he ate powder in Words of Radiance I realized that it wasn't just, like, Hoid showing up for fun, there were actual magical connections between planets. After that Mistborn Secret History left me very confused and I started researching the Cosmere and watching Shardcast.

That sounds like something he would do, but it's strange to me that Kelsier didn't mention it to Vin, or that TLR never showed up .

That's a good point. If that was something that the lord ruler was doing on a regular basis, it would have been vitally important that Vin know that and be prepared. It's possible that Kelsier told her about it off screen and it just never happened, but I don't know.

So what was he like? Did everyone have to greet him or something? Did he appear without noticing it? Vin was never warned about it and the nobles never talked about it.

I remember Sanderson saying that the ruler ran his empire with money first in mind, and that only the obligors had any sense of religion. So he was sociable? Could you talk to him? Did he even care?

I like to imagine that he would just kind of show up randomly and everyone would panic but they would all have to act like it was no big deal, so there would be all these nobles posturing and pretending like they see TLR every day but internally they're freaking out.

  4. I'm now just over halfway through The Wise Man's Fear and it's awesome. I found the start a bit slow, falling into the same pattern as the last book where

    Spoiler

Kvothe is trying to stay at the university and he needs money

but honestly I didn't mind it because it was still interesting. Now things are heating up a bit and it's great. I'm at the part where

    Spoiler

Kvothe is doing his test in Atem where he has to get through the sword tree

and it's very awesome. I also noticed that Tak is a real board game. I kind of want to buy it because it seems cool. Has anyone here played it?

  5. We're playing Bohemian Rhapsody and so far it's going really well! The tricky part is that super fast guitar bit because I have to play it with the first clarinet and he's amazing so it's very clear every time that I'm the one messing it up. It is an awesome song though. You can really feel everyone putting all their energy into it because we all love playing it.

So we know that Elantris is called Elantris (Shocker, I know), and the sequel will likely be called Dakhor. So, I figure the 3rd book will also be the name of something relating to a Sellish magic system. Something like ChayShan or JinDo, since that is where the practitioners come from. Any other guesses?

Soulstamp? Soul? Something about that system maybe, except that that's kind of what the Emperor's soul is called.

I think Gavilar is the best choice here because basically builds all the laws and ideals of Alethkar with almost no help and has lots of experience running a kingdom Dalinar does build the coalition but he doesn't actually ever a run a kingdom

That's a good point. I do have to factor in how much I dislike Gavilar though.

  8. Hoid knows what's up so I would take him. He has s much experience with all kinds of things. Tindwyl is a must because I love her and this is basically what her research is about. Lastly I would take either Gavilar or Dalinar, basically just someone wth actual experience commanding armies.

If the moons are constantly pouring out spores, how do the oceans not fill up? Do they degrade eventually, or is there another method?

    Brandon Sanderson

Yes, they degrade eventually. I'll be perfectly frank with you: my science on this, I have not gone to all of my normal science routes. The only one of the Secret Projects that we did a lot of the scientific work on is Four, because of how tied into the rest of the Cosmere it is. I have some sort of plausible wiggle room on Book One, because Hoid is telling the story, and he can get some things wrong.

I guess to me this has to mean that if Brandon ever needs to retcon something about how the spores work because it doesn't actually make sense, then this is so he'll be able to say that "Hold go it wrong". I think that I'm fine with that, especially because at least to me, it makes sense that Hoid would exaggerate things or guess about certain things to make his story better. Maybe he was less sure of how the aether work than he acted.

I think so but my band director disagrees. He says they work best as the background to stuff actually happening.

I feel like that may be true, but most soundtracks still have epic parts where the music does become a point of focus. And if the audience has seen the movie, then they will usually have strong emotions associated with certain moments, and that can be really great. Playing HTTYD in front of a bunch of teenagers was awesome because they'd all seen the movies as kids and got really into it.
