  1. Jack Oliver Travis stumbled out of their bunk several hours after everyone else and rushed to the card tent. Forget Voidbringers, time zones were the real enemy. They had almost been late to the round. What a terrible thing. How could they write an essay concerning card games as an allegory for sin when they missed the card games? Sure, they had the sections about how the numbers indicated a gradual slide into sin ("in ones and twos", gradual action in small groups), how the suits showed avenues to sin (spears showing an excess of masculinity, stubbornness, and directness, guards showing deliberate ignorance, disregarding morals for authority, and losing the self, pens showing sedition, paranoia, and betrayal, and swords showing concern for rank over the true self, prioritising showmanship over success, and the mockery of true battle), and what the power cards meant (Shardblade showing wanton destruction, Soulcaster showing the perversion of that which is holy), but none of the rules spoke on the people. If they wanted to study sin, they would have to drown in it. From some previous observation, they had categorised several archetypes of players, each a sinner in a different way. The cheaters were obvious enough, blatantly sinning, but the others were equally sinful. The truthtellers exploited the honesty of others by using their own honesty to gain information. The clever fiends cheated by looking and the bleeding fools. And the captain? Well, the captain was respectable enough in theory, but to play at all implied a tarnished spirit. (So what did that say about their own soul?)

They shook off their thoughts, tossed a few clearchips into the pot, and focused on the game. To truly observe the sinners at their default, they would have to immerse themselves in sin. It was all for a higher purpose, so their soul was safe. Yes. Definitely. All for the glory of the Almighty. (And victoire.)

Hi! Fabien here with what was supposed to be a general handyman but became an ardent for reasons unknown! I see that we're betting. Hmm... I bet an essay on the nature of sin in relation to this specific card game that at least one Honest person forgets to put their tell in at least once! Sorry for not being here for hours, time zones are terrible. Good to be here finally! I don't really know who to vote for, so I'll just figure it out. Actually...

Jack had to enhance the sin on the table. The captain was already abusing authority, albeit in jest, but just a little pressure, and maybe he would crack. Or at least get close. "Now, Captain Karnan, I don't think abusing your authority makes for a fair game." They smiled and leaned back in their chair to feign nonchalance, but they studied the captain's reaction behind lidded eyes.

In this specific rp and select others, bold your rp entries, but in other ones, you would use normal text like this. Also, for future note, when you are in one of those rps where the normal text is the rp responses, put your meta talk or normal talk like this in a quote box.

But, hello there! Welcome to the chaos Shard! I haven't been here since the beginning of this rp, I kinda jumped in at page 10 without context, then seriously rped here since page 18 saying that aloud makes me realize how long I've rped here :v Basically, take what I say with a grain of salt, but I'll do my best at recaping. Either Fadran, Condensation, or Xino will come in and correct me.

We started(?) off in Melody's––Condensation's OC––garden, then Mavilon(?) showed up. Melody's parents kicked them out and Mavilon let them go through a portal to this city, where they found out that Mavilon is a bad wizard. Melody got a sword from a knight who thought Mavilon was his dad, and then they walked across a field and went in the city. I'm not exactly sure how Ellis––Fadran's OC––or Gerald the Squid don't ask––one of Xino's OCs––got here, but let's pretend that there was some mystical reason. They got to the wizard's(?) tower in the city, meeting my OC, Q if ya want, there some writing I did about her on some of the status updates I made in the past about her :pp. They climb said tower, killing a butler on the way which apparently Ellis found to be hot, and talked to the wizard about something relating to the Dream Crystal: a magic amulet that can do something specific that my brain refuses to remember or I just wasn't told. We left the building, somehow transitioning into a fight with Y––one of Xino's OCs. Q got mortally wounded, which caused the others to find a doctor, nursing her back to health, then Dr. Octopus––one of Xino's OCs and Gerald's archenemy, and yes, he is what he sounds like: a sentient octopus... thing––did something by trapping them, which we somehow got out of. Went camping for a bit, which doesn't really need any explanation besides we need to get Melody's scabbard. Had a run-in with the Mafia for not that long, meeting Ji––one of my OCs. Can't remember why that was important, but eh. During ∗ˈ‧₊° camping time ∗ˈ‧₊°, Ellis went on a date with Q that's a surprise tool we'll use later, bonding with her more while Gerald and Melody vibe at camp and eat s'mores or something. They got rained on, all of them hiding in a tent, which we "invited" Dr. Octopus, who then kills Gerald. Dunno how or why, but a mechanical arm of his is the only plot hook we have. As anyone sane would do, we go to find a way to revive him with the help of the arm, and Melody contacts someone from her past... thingy... His name is X, lol––one of Xino's OCs. X transports us to the Longest Thread you'll figure that out sooner or later, which he tells us how to revive Gerald. We go find Dr. Octopus, who's apparently the key to reviving Gerald through a portal that goes... somewhere, and we engage in a fight with him and his lackies. Ellis takes him head-on, blinded with rage; Melody and Q take care of the guards; and the arm is kinda there. Dr. Octopus then kills Q, which causes Ellis to want to drink the blood of the octopus exaggerating, of course. Melody basically slaps Ellis back to reality, and they both vibe right into the portal that has something to do with time again, either Condensation, Fadran, or Xino will come in and correct me. Ellis and Melody I dunno if the arm made it come to the conclusion that they needed the Dream Crystal from Y to revive Q and Gerald. After basically doing nothing for a month irl except a few responses here and there, Connie revives the rp and Xino and Fadran basically beg for me to come back in as someone else to help the plot move along. So, we have His Highness or Highness––one of my OCs––come in and try and figure the situation with Y having the Dream Crystal out. Right now, we're apparently reading souls instead of doing something productive. So, normal every day thing to procrastinate.

In other words: A literal Child more of a teenager, but you get the pic is given a sword by a person who thought a Bad Magic Dude was his dad. Confused Boi and Squid appeared one day, and Child said, "Wack," and they went to the Magic Dude's tower. Depressed Warrior tags along, which Confused Boi apparently falls head over heels over. They find a High Magic Dude, who tells them to find the Magic Rock. They fight OP D&D Character, Depressed Warrior getting stabbed one too many times and decides to take a nap. The Ragtag Group takes her to Doc, who says, "Oh yeah. I've seen some owies before, and this one is... well, it's definitely an owie," then fills Depressed Warrior with drugz that solved all her owies' problems. Evil Octopus comes in, and that happened. Ragtag Group encounters the mafia, and that happened. Ragtag Group decides to go on a vacation by camping, then Confused Boi asks Depressed Warrior on a date while the child and squid vibe. Evil Octopus decides to come back in and diagnose Squid with the dead, then peaces out. Plot-Seeking Arm is there, pointing where the plot is in another universe with Blue Dude. Blue Dude tells Ragtag Group to find Evil Octopus, and they say, "Wack," and go do that. Confused Boi decides to fight Evil Octopus with the no fighting skillz he has, while Child and Depressed Warrior dance and kill. Evil Octopus diagnoses Depressed Warrior with the dead, to which she says, "Wack." Confused Boi goes on murdering rampage, till Child slaps him and brings him and Plot-Seeking Arm (maybe) into the Magic Door which Evil Octopus has been protecting, which does something with the Sacred Timeline. They brb'd irl, then found Cryptic Dude to fight OP D&D Character for Magic Rock, which she apparently has.

Maybe that cleared some things up, no promises.

This actually helped. Thanks a lot!

The random guy nodded along to the voice in their head and thinks about an arm. The arm would be most helpful, probably. Who knows? After all, this was a guy listening to voices in their head. Not the paragon of logic.

    Wait- someone's gonna join?! YES!!

Character looks good! Doesn't need to have a secondary, it just that most Epics in this RP have a lot of abilities.

I'm now going to be annoying as usual and ask questions now. What about Epic abilities that can sense people?

And I think Exotwo is gone from the Shard :(. I'll have to ask them about me possibly taking over Sundew to finish up the interaction really quick (or I can drag them back here :P)

I think any sensory perception would be affected unless it's an Epic power about indirect sensing like long-distance photography or something. Direct observation is impossible while the power is active. Of course, the power doesn't work when Nobody thinks they're being observed, so it's mildly useless. Just a bit.

  4. Hi! I don't really know how forum mafia works, but I'd love to find out. I really like playing werewolf with friends, so maybe I'll like this! So you need a character? Uh... I guess I'll go with Jack Oliver Travis, which is definitely not a reference to the word jot, Jack of all Trades, or golf.

I do have some questions though.

    1. Does the Honest role apply to the semantics of a lie or the spirit of a lie? For example, if I was a wolf and I said "I am a villager" because I live in a village IRL, would that be a lie for the purposes of the role? Or if I said "I'm village" because village is a valid nickname for me  Stuff like that. Or "I trust xyz" because as a wolf, I know xyz is also a wolf. Or "I would suspect zyx" using "would" to imply that I don't because as a wolf, I know zyx is not a wolf.
    2. Are the cards that work on other people of your choice or random/narrator decided? I think it would be of your choice, but the rules just say "another player" or "a different person"
    3. Does the word "can" in some card descriptions mean success is random or the player has the ability to use it without choosing to have the effect?
  5. Hi! I made a character for this, if it's still alive! This world looks pretty cool and I look forward to joining!

    Spoiler

    Name: Bene

Physical Characteristics: A bunch of cremlings in a trenchcoat. They're about the size of a small child because of separation from the main group of cremlings

Investiture: Dysian Aimian, Aviar (the coppercloud one)

Skills: Skilled in Thievery (because dissolving into crabs is very useful for escaping)

Equipment: A trenchcoat, a hat, whatever they've stolen recently

Weakness: They were split off from the main group of cremlings in mind and body, so they don't remember anything before the Alleyverse, they don't know anything about Investiture, they don't know why they're cremlings in a trenchcoat (or even what cremlings are), they don't know their bird is an Aviar, they don't know what an Aviar is, etc. They also remember much about the world and have very bad social skills as a result.

    Home planet: Roshar

Backstory: Somehow got Cognitively separated from the main group, wandered around the Alleyverse for a while

    Guild: Unaffiliated, I guess

Personality: Naive, childlike, constantly dazzled by the world around them, no sense of horror. Just vibing

Fighting style: Dissolve into cremlings and flee. If they have to fight, they dissolve into cremlings and swarm over their opponent while using their claws

  6. Hi! By the looks of things, this place has been pretty quiet, but if it's still alive, I'd like to join! So here's my character. I hope they make sense.

Nobody (the name is definitely not stolen from the SCP Foundation)

    Spoiler

    Epic name: Nobody

Primary power: Can't be sensed directly. They can still be perceived by video and audio recordings, pictures, etc, just not by sensory input

Secondary power: I don't think they have one? Maybe a memory effect? I'm not sure

Weakness: Being perceived. If Nobody thinks they're being perceived, the power won't work

Backstory: Grew up in a standard undetermined town (I don't know American towns well, sorry) with severe stage fright and pressure from their parents to succeed. They wanted nothing more than to disappear, and then they did. I don't really know if they would know they're an Epic since it only works when they think they aren't being perceived, but I'll err on the side of knowledge cause I can imagine scenarios where they "appear from nowhere" in front of people.

Personality: Anxious, paranoid, terrified constantly. Other then that, I guess I'll figure it out as I go

  7. A random guy fell into existence out of thin air with some Macca's and a hot drink. "What is this place?" the guy asked. "I was told to fall in this general direction by some guy and I have no idea what's going on."

I think not bolded text is the non RP stuff? Hi, I'm Fabien, I'm new, and I'm fond of RP but they are all so long and I need a recap of things I need to know. I just clicked the one at the top of the stack and I did not expect this many pages

Hi Fabien and welcome to the shard! :)

Someone who reads up on things before posting? That's a very nice quality to have! But be warned: by opening a thead here, you might be asked questions relentlessly! Then again, maybe we're just happy to have you on board.

Anyway, what is your favorite book and why? ^_^

My favourite book is Arcanum Unbounded because I quite like TES, SotD, and SFSitFoH

  9. During my reread of SA, I noticed in this interlude the guy who talks to Dalinar says Hoid hit himself with a rock several times. Hoid can't cause physical pain to anyone, inlcuding himself. So how did he hurt himself? The only thing I can think of is if he just pretended to hit himself with the rock but the dialogue about needing to know what the guy's company is in comparison to the rock doesn't really make sense then. Does anyone have an answer?

  10. The shoe almost fell off my head while I was yodelling, but I hit the button before it slipped. Hi, shard people! I really only joined cause I had a question after rereading SA, but by the looks of things, that goes somewhere else, so I'll go off to the right section
