I never made the connection to Aes Sedai but that's a really good comparison.

I would love to wait and read the book in one go, but I’m a slower paced reader and having this head start to get my feet wet with the first 19 chapters is very beneficial to me. I won’t be overwhelmed when the book arrives.

Hello and thank you! Favorite book series, I’m going to be generic and say Stormlight. Also, Lord of the Rings. I’m really easy to please haha. Favorite quote hit me in The Emperor’s Soul: “There was rarely an obvious branching point in a person's life. People changed slowly, over time. You didn't take one step, then find yourself in a completely new location. You first took a little step off a path to avoid some rocks. For a while, you walked alongside the path, but then you wandered out a little way to step on softer soil. Then you stopped paying attention as you drifted farther and farther away. Finally, you found yourself in the wrong city, wondering why the signs on the roadway hadn't led you better.” Man, this is just so true of real life.

I canceled my Amazon preorder and picked up a Weller copy as soon as I saw all of this. 5 dollars is a great price for a donation to charity and to get a personalized message. Excited to see what quote he throws my way! Amazon was obviously the more affordable way to get the book, but I feel better supporting an independent seller, knowing the book won’t arrive damaged like Amazon orders sometimes do, donating to charity, getting a ticket to the livestream, and getting a signature. The value for a little extra is incredible!

I love Adolin in this chapter. I love Kaladin in this chapter as well for different reasons. Feeling very shocked by the sudden finality of him never seeing Rock again. One thing I felt really strongly while reading, and maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I’m feeling Veil is approaching the fine line of become toxic for Shallan and also Adolin. In past books I kinda put up with Veil because she helped with all of Shallan’s sleuthing and espionage but the more she lingers around, the more I have this weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. Brandon writes her in a fun way, but then there’s little hints - like how Veil can hold more alcohol than Shallan (even though it’s the same body, brain, weight, biology as Shallan, just with an illusion over her) so that gives Shallan an excuse to put more alcohol in her body. It’s Veil’s choice to drink but it’s Shallan’s body she’s dumping it into. Adolin senses she’s not dealing with condition well either and that she’s escalating to something. I feel an underlying discomfort from Adolin about it despite how wonderfully understanding he is. Does anyone else cringe at the Veil persona?

The question is how does chouta spread throughout the Cosmere? Lopen brings it somewhere of course. I bet Aimia is going to get a mega heaping of chouta in Dawnshard if Lopen adventures there.

Hi to both of you! I’m definitely looking forward to Dawnshard. Also looking forward to the WoK leather bounds. Oh the characters I relate to are numerous. I am one of those people that sees myself in any character on-screen haha. I was Shallan at one point in life, Kaladin in another, and I’m definitely going through a redemption-arc-Dalinar-phase, hahaha But mostly I’m like Stick because I don’t like change!
