    "First of all," Caden got close to Wendy, "I need you to answer a few questions of mine."

    As the radio was picked, it buzzed once more as a voice spoke through it. "Hodak 4, respond. Do you read me T.C. Pham?"

    Caden scoffed, not bothering to change his volume. "You have your guarantee, traitor. So long as you cause no trouble, and do as I say, your friend will be fine."

    As Caden descended the stairs once more, but with the document in hand, he sneered as he saw the two prisoners on the floor. "You're lucky that the King is far more kind than I am, traitor."

    All three of the remaining men dropped to the daggers as they tried to flee from the cave, only one seemed to still be alive. He coughed up blood as he spoke into his radio, "two targets confirmed. We'r- Hodak 4 is down. Don't retrieve us." A muffled voice responded through the radio, but it was only loud enough for the man to hear.

    Pham shouted as the ATG team opened fire on the approaching zombies. "We've been engaged! Multiple hostiles, corpse-like!" With a gesture of his hand, the group immediately moved back while keeping constant fire upon the undead that was rushing for them, aiming for their joints specifically. Everything went well, until one of men's guns stopped firing with a clicking sound. Pham shouted at the man to reload his weapon, but as he spared a glance towards the man, he saw that the gunman was trembling as he tried to pull the trigger, over and over again. Pham opened his mouth to shout at another member of the fireteam to help the fool. But before he could utter a word, one of the zombies slammed into his man, knocking him down to the ground. Pham only offered a short curse before shouting at the rest of his men, "get him up and pull back, move!" As the ATG team moved to change their formation, the corpses got past their field of bullets, and Pham's men dropped one after another. Pham tried to keep up the suppressing fire, but it didn't take a brilliant tactician to realize that there was no escaping being overrun as a unit. Regardless, he tried to help one of his men get clear as he shouted into his transmitter. "Get us reinforcements! We need back-up now, control!" A buzz came over his transmitter, barely audible over the gunfire that reverberated throughout the cave. "Request acknowledged Hodak 4, withdraw immediately." Pham cursed as he tried desperately to throw one of the corpses off of one of his men, O'Neal. "Get up and out Hodak 4, NOW! Move, move, move!" Pham had lost track of over half of the team, and the nearly everyone else was being taken down by the zombies. He pulled as many as he could up and away from the carnage, but he could only get so many both while maintaining constant fire on any of the approaching zombies and getting to them before they were killed horribly. The three remaining members of Hodak 4 backed out of the cave as quickly as they could without risking themselves more than necessary.

    "Sir, we've got movement!" Pham, adjusted his aim to get the subjects into view, turning to see shambling corpses. "Hodak 4, back off!" The fireteam moved back in unison, trying to keep the zombies in view while being out of range for physical contact.

    Caden growled through his teeth before turning away. "Then you may have that, and only that." He stepped back and spun enough to cause his cape to flair before speaking to one of the dungeon guardsmen. "I will leave two of my personal guard here, while one of you comes with me to the King. This should be over quickly."

    Caden only growled, "would a document stamped with the King's signet satisfy you?"

    Caden leaned in close, glaring directly into Wendy's eyes. "You tell me, traitor! You've already tried to have him assassinated once tonight, trying to make sure that the job gets done?!"

    Oh hey, I'm getting close to 2,000 posts. Maybe I should do something special when I get there, unlike the nothing I did for my 1,000.

    Caden growled, "what do you suggest, I allow a rebel like you anywhere close to the King?!"

    "If you want to guarantee her safety, you'll do what you're told, girl." Caden stepped forward while in his typical slouching posture, "and we will start with questions."

    "Good," Caden gestured to his bodyguards, who moved to take hold of Arabella. "Then you have an oath, the child will be safe, and you'll be working for me."

    Caden growled in annoyance, "perhaps not as smart as I thought. Who else, girl?!"

    "Such a smart rebel," Caden chuckled, but it sounded as if he were performing an action that he had practiced over and over again to force it to sound natural. "If you won't take my word, then what about an oath from the King?"

    Caden's face twisted into a malevolent smirk, "oh, that's not how this works. I will keep her with me until you've served your purpose, only then will she go free."

    Caden returned the glare's intensity, "nothing compared to what I'll do."

    One of the ATG members raised their hand, and made a quick gesture that the entire team seemed to understand instantly. The squad adjusted their formation to allow for more firepower to be up front before wordlessly continuing down the cave, flashlights darting across the area to catch any movement that might reveal a creature's location.

    Caden waited for only a moment before gesturing with his fingers for his guardsmen to separate the two. "Are you satisfied, rebel?"

    "Now, I will stay with you as my personal guard retrieve the child." A pair of dungeon guards came and relieved Caden's bodyguards. Caden gestured towards his men, who were clad in angular, rough looking steel armor that didn't bother to cover up their veteran appearance. "They will not hesitate to carry out any of my orders, even if it's against a child. Above all, I will not hesitate to give the order, nor carry it out myself!"

    Caden moved his blade to her neck, "I will only give you this. Escape, and I will kill you and your friend myself!" He gestured for one of the guardsmen to fetch steel shackles, which were brought quickly. As they were prepared to be placed onto Wendy, the guardsman made it clear that they had traces of dried blood on them.

    Caden leveled his blade at Wendy's chest, his lowering, but still having the seemingly ever present growl. "What would you have me do, filth? She's alive for now, but only so long as you do as I say!"
  25. The Ward's Guard
    Caden stepped back just enough to whip out his sword, "then do as I say! Your friend was going to reveal the location of your rebel hideout, even if it took the Ravenness to convince her to help us. If you do so now, then you can relieve your friend of any further questioning."
