    "I have plenty of friends," Fischer protested. "One of them is in here right now!"

    "No, I just- You-" Fischer cleared his throat, and straightened his back. "I'm your bodyguard, ma'am. Please don't distract me as the general said."

    Fischer swallowed at her stare. "Torture?"

    "Of course," Caden said with a glance at Fischer. "Take care of of her." Fischer nodded, not mentioning that he had said that before. Tha general took in a hesitant breath, and stepped out of the room, closing the door behind him.

    "He's a bodyguard, Riva." Caden shook his head, "I'll return when this is all over." He turned towards Fischer, "don't let anything happen to her, understand?" Fischer saluted, "not a thing." "Good," Caden nodded, turning to the door. He paused, glancing back at his wife. "Be safe, please."

    "That's not what he's here for," Caden reiterated as he pointed towards Fischer. "If you need heavy lifting, then have one of the serving staff help you, or you could set it aside for me and I'll deal with it in due time. Alright?"

    "Didn't you think he was a creep?"

    Caden quickly scanned the young man who was failing to hide his apprehension, "I don't think that will be an issue, will it?" "No sir," Fischer responded too quickly. "You see?" Caden nodded, "so leave him be and let him do his job."

    Caden sighed, "fine. But Riva, he is a bodyguard, not a servant. He hasn't spent years training in combat to be a manservant for you."

    Caden glanced at the soldier just in time to see him fail to catch a breath, "I'm not sure he's up for it." Fischer gave a hasty salute, "sir, I can do whatever you need me too."

    "It would be far easier if you just stayed in those quarters until it's handled," Caden said placing his hands on his hips, "and I doubt you'll want to watch it happen." "Of course," the guard said with an eyeroll. "Just stay here until we hear back from the King."

    Caden paused at the doorway, grinding his teeth. "They are my men," he clenched his fists. "My loyal men . . ."

    Fischer nodded quickly, "as you wish, ma'am." He turned away and tentatively tapped the general on the shoulder. Caden looked over at Fischer, his face tight in a mixture of anger and concern. "How many others were involved in this, soldier." Fischer glanced back towards Riva, worried about still being in the room. "I can't say for sure, sir. But more than who were there." Caden groaned, "we'll have to root out the traitors." When the general spoke the words, the younger man shuddered at the thought. "Sir, they're all Preatorium. I don't understan-" "Doesn't matter," Caden snapped, "anyone who harms my wife, then turns around to nearly kill their comrades is deserving of death." He stalked towards the door, "come, soldier. We have work to do."

    Fischer paled, "uh, yes. It's very pleasant." He winced, glancing towards the general. "Not that I find you attractive." He quickly added, "but you still look good!"

    "Oh," Fischer tried to not sound relieved. "So, uh . . ." He cleared his throat, at a loss for words again.

    "Uh," Fischer looked for words, his mouth having dried out. "You're the Raveness. Can't you read my mind or something?"

    "Nothing," he said too quickly. "I wasn't thinking of anything, your Ravenness."

    "Yes ma'am," Fischer said as he straightened himself. He stepped forward and took her hand as gently as he could manage and began wrapping it up. He couldn't help glancing up at her face, transfixed by the fact that she wasn't wearing a mask as he had been told she always did. The memory that she was married to the general forced him to quickly move his eyes back to her hand. He still had difficulty pairing the two in his head.

    Fischer lifted his hands to see that they were trembling again, he balled them into a fist to hide that fact. "I'm uh, would the general be better fit to help you with that?" Caden didn't perked up at the title, as he was staring at Nowak while he was on the table, his brow furrowing at whatever thoughts crossed his mind. Fischer glanced back towards the Rave- Riva. "I don't have very gentle hands. Uh, Ravenness Riva."

    Fischer jumped at her words, "Uh, I'm-" He felt himself tremble slightly at the thought of the Ravenness herself know his name, but after he a quick glance at the general, he steeled himself. "Yes ma'am. I am Fischer."

    Caden leaned down and kissed his wife gently on her cheek, "I disagree." Fischer looked down at Nowak, feeling frustrated that the two had gotten distracted, but biting his tongue.

    Caden found himself smiling, despite all that had happened. "You still look beautiful to me."

    Caden cleared his throat, "do you need anything else, my dear?"

    Fischer looked indignant at the action, but with a quick glance at the general, he stepped away.

    Fischer nodded slowly, watching the Ravenness's every move carefully. Caden grunted at him, "let her work."
