Well, It has been a bit, but I have finished! (I actually finished it two months ago, but I moved countries so I've been a little distracted)
Work in Progress Pics:
SpoilerAnd here's the final animation and videos of it running (hey, look, highstorms have a perfectly straight back edge. Who would have thought?)
SpoilerGoogle drive link 'cause this thing is half an hour long:

I was about to make a post similar to this, before I saw it already existed!
My original layout for the Dawnshards, before reading this thread, was this:
SpoilerChange:
- Cultivation (positive change)
- Ruin (negative change)
- Preservation (lack of change)
- Endowment (changing others)
Unite/Bind:
- Honor (bound to an oath/concept)
- Dominion (binding others to you)
- Devotion (binding yourself to others)
- Whimsy (lack of binds/commitments, could be swapped for Autonomy)
Live/Think/Feel: (The Dawnshard I think Hoid would have held)
- Unknown Wisdom shard (internal contemplation)
- Invention (external contemplation)
- Odium (your own emotions)
- Mercy (empathy for others' emotions)
Desire/Choose/Identity:
- Autonomy (freedom to choose)
- Ambition (making your choices a reality/desire to make a choice)
- Valor (determination and perseverance through adversity)
- Virtuosity (not sure, Could be swapped with Invention or Wisdom)
I like and dislike some of both layouts. Making my list, I went more in the direction of "laws of investiture", inspired by how the likely Unite/Bind Dawnshard lines up with connection being important. The two other investiture laws I came up with for the other Dawnshards were the fact that Investiture when left alone seeks sentience (the "life" Dawnshard), and something along the lines of identity and/or shardic intent. That one I'm less sure about, but there being two Dawnshards tied to sentience and life does line up with how almost exactly half the shards' intents are tied closely to human attributes. I also quite like the duality of Wisdom and Invention and of Odium and Mercy. Like I said, that Dawnshard I like a lot more than Desire/Choose, which is more just me not knowing what to do with the remaining shards and looking for uniting themes in them.
Also, with my layout, I decided to put the shard that was the absence/opposite of the Dawnshard in that Dawnshard. So Preservation is in Change, and Whimsy is in Bind. Essentially, the idea is that Change doesn't only make things change, it controls all aspects of change, including stopping change. Same goes for Unite being able to break bonds as well as make them.
As for your layout, I like it quite a bit. I don't love Odium in change. To me, Whimsy or Endowment fit much better. I do like Ambition in change, as Hodor mentioned. I like the idea of Ambition being in Unite as well, as a sort of "I swear I will reach this goal". Though, to me that sounds maybe a little too close to Valor.
I will say, I have never really liked the idea of a Survive or Stasis Dawnshard. It seems too close to the intent of Preservation for me, and from a writerly perspective doesn't seem especially interesting to delve into. Something like Protect I personally like better, but I don't see protection as one of the four powers of creation that were used to make (everything in?) the Cosmere. I think Live fills a similar role, and I like it better as a force of creation. To me it just doesn't make a ton of sense to have "not changing" be a full quarter of the power that was used to create the Cosmere, but that's pure unsupported opinion.
Lastly, I didn't realize until you pointed it out the synergy between the three "creation" shards, which is the most convincing point I have seen in the idea of a Creation Dawnshard. It does rub me the wrong way a bit that Investiture shouldn't be able to be created or destroyed, but phrasing it along the lines of creativity or the creation of ideas or more ephemeral concepts makes me like it a lot more.

I’ve been kinda staying out of this conversation because I’ll be moving tomorrow, and I’m not sure if I’ll have consistent internet for a few weeks. Until I get back, feel free to have Sylvia wander around to wherever she’s supposed to go.

Sylvia saw her roommate finally come walking to the seats. She sat there already herself, hoping she looked composed and calm when on the inside she was a bundle of nerves. She almost convinced herself.

Instance looked over at the clock on the desk. She moved to snooze it before properly taking in the time, but missed. Unfortunately, missing meant realizing that the clock read 7:13. She moaned and sat up, turning off the alarm. She dressed herself didn't bother messing with her elfin hair, which was still mostly straight. She stepped out her rooms door.
Sylvia had already been up for an hour before Instance woke, running through her morning routine. Eating, washing, stretching. She considered waking the other girl, but decided against it. I don’t want her angry at me already.
Promptly at 6:45, Sylvia quietly slipped out her and Instance’s door and made her way to orientation.

Instance was already almost out the door when she felt a tinge of guilt. "Hey, uh, I was going to go get something to eat. You're welcome to come, uh, what was your name again?"
“Syliva.” She slung her bag onto a hook near the door, “and lunch sounds good.”

"Of course. Who doesn't?" She did. It wasn't a lie. Just not quite the full truth.
“Ah, that’s good. Same here. I had to when my mother was out… which was always.” Sylvia realized she was dumping her problems onto this random girl and quickly pivoted, “so, um, do you know your parents?”
QuoteEdit: whoops. Replied to your quoted post and then didn’t notice that last post you had. Feel free to ignore that last question.

The look on her face faded slightly. "I'm Instance." She looked around. "Do they expect us to cook?" Instance enjoyed cooking, well, not with meat, but otherwise she found it enjoyable.
“Depends on what you would define as ‘cooking’. Anyway, I expect there must be restaurants nearby if needed. Why? Do you know how to cook?”

Genoro walked down the stairs until he reached the ground floor. He stepped out the door to find his mistress looking bored. He has expected to have to separate her and her mother. "Mistress." The girl had an angry light to her eyes.
"Have all my things been delivered?"
"Yes, mistress."
"Let's go up then."
They used the elevator to reach the top floor. Genoro accompanied Instance until they reached her room. "I am sorry, mistress, but I must leave for my own rooms now." Genoro would have to sleep in the city as servants weren't given rooms in the dorms themselves.
"Wait, I thought you were to stay with me?"
"I am not allowed, mistress. I will meet with you daily however."
She pursed her lips. "Very well. Good day, Genoro." She entered the room and gasped at how small it was, quickly followed by another gasp when she saw someone else in the room. "I have to share this abysmally small room with someone else‽"
“Hmm?” Sylvia glanced up as her roommate entered, and managed to spy the form of Genoro making his may back down the hall. So this was the person who had a personal servant just to arrange their things for them. Sylvia stood and looked the girl up and down. “Hi.” She paused for a moment, unsure what to say next. Gods, I hope the whole year isn’t like this. “I’m Sylvia, What’s you’re name?”

"Sorry Mistress," Genoro said with a slight smile. "I am not a student, I was merely delivering my mistress' items. Good day."
“Oh, sorry. Well, have a good day, then.” What kind of person had a personal… butler? To set up their room for them.

Genoro stepped into the doom room, unlocking the door with the key card his mistress had given him. He towed the luggage inside, arranging the things in exactly the way his mistress liked, or as similar as it could get in this dorm. Genoro then went downstairs to accompany his mistress to her room, but he ran into someone.
“Oh, hello.” Sylvia pulled up to a halt. “I think you’re, um… in the wrong dorms?”

Want them to be roommates?
QuoteSorry, busy day yesterday, but sure!
Sylvia steeped off the bus with a flood of other new students and their parents. Parents, willing to take a whole bus ride just to see their child off at school? She had to admit she was a little jealous. She slung her bag over her shoulder and glanced at the surrounding signage, pinpointing the way to Korolai.
She took a moment to breath in the fresh air after freeing herself from the mingling crowd and took off toward her dorm.0 -

What does Sylvia think about arrogant people?
QuoteShe’s a little arrogant herself, so she probably wouldn’t be annoyed by it unless they started acting out.

Character:
SpoilerName: Sylvia Rhombus
Age: 16
Race: Human
Magic: Mind Harvesting
Dragon/Other Pet: N/A
Worst Fear: Fear of being helpless or in a situation she cannot controlAppearance: 5' 9" (180 cm). Brown hair, Yellow eyes, thin build but looks athletic.
Details/Backstory: She comes from an unreliable family situation that reinforced her desire for control. Her mother sent her to a relatively wealthy private school so she wouldn’t have to deal with her for most of the day. Sylvia was very happy there when in the library reading and not very happy the rest of the time. This made her very eager to accept a admittance to greatowl university, where she is convinced only the most upstanding students attend.
Personality: She likes to have things be ordered and in control. If everyone would just act logically, everyone would be happier. Contrary to this, she is very nervous and easily panicked by deviations from the norm. This has led to teasing and bullying in her previous schools, which is why she learned martial arts to defend herself. It only helped a little. She also hates breaking rules.
Skills: Not very good at her magic. She can fence and practices martial arts, however. Also a very diligent reader and studier, with knowledge from across many fields.Let me know if anyone wants to be Sylvia’s roommate! I’ll write her introduction in a bit.

I'm not a fan of strong violence or language so I'm going to wait to watch it.
I've watched like the first ten episodes of Campaign One before I trailed off. Now, I'm deciding to keep up with Campaign 3 and so I've gotten to episode five of that. I can actually listen to it while at work now so it's going smoothly.Glad you’re liking c3! I like it a lot better than at least the early episodes of c1.
Also, yeah, if strong language and violence bothers you, the animated show is probably not for you.

I feel this is a good place to post... Amazon Prime has the Legend of Vox Machina (first three episodes at least) available for viewing now.
And they are great!
I never saw campaign 1, having only really started on Critical Role for campaign 3, but apparently, they've got the characterizations spot on.
Definitely. I’m halfway through c1, and it is very spot on so far.
Even beyond that, it’s really good. Great writing, voice acting, little nods to the original campaign.

Over the last six months or so I've been working on a creating a physical 3D model of the continent of Roshar. It's still a work in progress, but I have some actual physical products to show for it as of recently. My end goal is to make the entire map out of wood and project animations like Highstorms onto it.
So far, I've made a prototype map out of foam using a CNC router.
And I have used a projector with it to project the map of Roshar onto the foam:
The reason I post this is I would like some feedback. Eventually I want to do something with this similar to the interactive timeline of Roshar the staff put together, but in three dimensions. Like I mentioned, I would also like to add the Highstorms to the animation, so you can see how they interact with the geography and mountains of the map.
Is there anything else I should add? Change? Improve? I have a time limit, but I'm curious to see what people think.
Finally, here's the 3D digital model I used for this in case anyone wants it for a project of their own. Feel free to use it, though it is fairly rough, so the geography isn't exactly perfect and the topography is complete guesswork.

I loved this movie. It’s one I’m actually glad to have music from in my head. I think Mirabel is my favorite character just for screen time alone, but Delores is definitely underutilized, and would be my favorite with just a few more lines. Her character as someone who hears everything is so interesting, and I will definitely write something with that concept eventually. Going back and picking up the subtle hints in the Bruno song she drops about being able to hear him now.
And Isabella is also a great character. Luisa has a better song, but she is my favorite sister of the two, and What Else Can I Do is my second favorite song of the movie.

“You two can grab the other one, we just need to get it onto the water right now.”
Ara moved to grab the second canoe. “We need to be on the water to transition realms?”

[theory] a subversion of expetations with regards to the 5th oath of the Windrunners
in Stormlight Archive
Posted
I love the idea of consecutive oath swearing. It sounds so epic, if it happens it would definitely be in book five or ten at the end of an arc.
Everything else I also like, though how likely it is I don’t know. I do think it would be cool to see the subversion of Kaladin not swearing the fifth ideal, and if that happened I think we would need to still se someone swear the fifth Windrunner ideal or it would be a letdown. This definite feels like if Brandon wanted to go the route of Kal not swearing the fifth this book it would be a way to make it an exciting twist instead of a disappointing one.
