Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Ashbringer replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Issal had to focus. He had to. He couldn't, but he had to. It had been half a year of classes. He wasn't exactly sure how much you were supposed to progress in that time. Likely, not as far as he had. El'the within a term, like Kevan. Even now there were only... he'd lost track. Blast it why couldn't he focus. The El'the's got their own study rooms, all he had to do was go outside and count them and he... he couldn't. For the third time, he carefully covered his project and started towards the door, then shook his head and went back. It looked worse half-finished than done. Done it could hide. Surrounding him was a pile of failure. He hadn't exactly been expecting to create gold in his first year, but... he'd gotten close so many times. So many times. And yet he was missing something. The Master Alchemist had advised taking a break, then advised looking at a new project when that was met with blank stares. So he'd started a new thing. He'd almost asked for Kevan's help, then hope had arrived anyway. He couldn't do this alone. Kevan didn't have the skills that he needed. He didn't need any skills anyway, he needed another brain, someone who could actually do things that they wanted to. It wasn't a rational thing. But Issal wasn't operating on reason, not right now. Save reason for the meetings and the Horns and the expulsions. This was... this was danger. This was a need. He needed Percyl. Issal wasn't sure if that was what he had in mind. But then Jenali and Elena suddenly appeared on school grounds after being locked into the Crockery for months. They'd done the impossible. They'd escaped, on their own. Sure, they had some Names. Perhaps they had more. Percyl hadn't gotten any recognition before he crocked, but Issal knew he had potential. Maybe their plan was over now. The Philosopher's Stone out of reach, at this University. Whatever Archivists there were were doing other things. But, maybe not. And so Issal went back at the mix of chemicals he was looking at, at the liquid he'd kept in the artificially cooled container. Bone-Tar. If he was caught with that, he'd... he wasn't sure. Probably get expelled. Definitely get lashed. And no one would ever look at him the same again. But he could live with that. I'm going to get you out, Percyl. If I can. Editor's Note: No I can't do that, not on my own, and it's not what I've been busy doing. Issal doesn't know that though Do you have a contract to get me exed or something My thoughts are mixed between a lot of things. Like Grad School, and whether or not to spend time RPing or analyzing. Possible votes are Kas, Steel, Wonko, Archer, Ash, TJ, Szeth, Stink, Sart. The first three are pretty much out (Kas is Kas, Steel is entirely inactive, Wonko is an NK target). Leaves 6, 5 if everyone discounts themselves. One Elim at least is clearly paying attention, both on the decision to shoot JNV again and perhaps doing so to try and hide TKN's Roleblocker. One Elim also clearly put in a kill. Those aren't necessarily the same one. I don't have enough outside info to know if plans have been disrupted in a way that suggests a deepwolf. I will say, I don't think Szeth made the call to shoot for last turn. I don't know if anyone tracked when he was / wasn't online, but JNV's kill was pretty precise. I do think, based on the fact so many potential actions were around, that Szeth being the one to put in a kill makes sense. I also don't think I'm in great shape to go deepwolf hunting. Going for low activity suspects to force more actions out gives the Archivist time to work.- 692 replies

There’s at least one reason. Steeldancer hasn’t been online in about a week, he’s not putting in any actions. Szeth could have. And based on being one of two Elevations this turn, probably has been. (Not 100%, because I still think elevations are based on what you file that turn and not the prior turn no matter how many times Kas explains it to me, but… you get my point.)- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Ashbringer replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
This line of reasoning is mostly a joke Mostly. I think looking at who couldn’t put in a kill is a good place to go. My NKA is more about who makes the decision to put in the kill, which isn’t necessarily the same thing. And it takes a special kind of player to actively decide not to put in a kill. Is TKN that kind of player, not sure, but I don’t know that he’s not. But, there are simpler explanations.- 692 replies

One, no it wasn’t me. Kas already claimed it but I’m RPing an Alchemist. And two… even if it was me, why is that suspicious to you? I didn’t vote on Mat, sure, but I wasn’t exactly defending him. I just didn’t have time to go review all the meta arguments. Unless you think I was trying to protect Stink or something? Part of me wants to vote TKN on the slight possibility they were so scared I correctly identified them in NKA that they decided not to put in a kill but also continuing the bookmark. Have a family event today and so I can’t pay too much attention but should be around tomorrow.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Ashbringer replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Alright, time for me to exercise my brain a little bit. JNV, Drake, and Wonko are pretty different kills. JNV and Wonko are more low-info, Drake is... not. So without further ado: M1 - JNV This seems pretty much like a low-info kill, not much else to note about it. JNV posted RP and poked Szeth, Archer voted JNV briefly before turning to double-Drake... and that's it. Mat Kas TKN Steel Archer Ash TJ Araris Szeth Stink Sart (I'm taking out the 3 Insane individuals, because obviously. I'm not taking out Araris because I don't think many people expected him to be expelled when he was, he only got expelled the past turn, and he could have made calls on when and where to kill things). Szeth had no posts M1. I don't think Szeth is the kind of player to shoot someone for a solo vote without calling it out in thread, so I feel safe taking the two of them off the list. Mat Kas TKN Steel Archer Ash TJ Araris Stink Sart Sart and STINK both have 1 barely-post in D1. I haven't run into E!Stink very often and thus am a little more paranoid of them, and E!Sart can be... I don't really have time to check. But for D1, I think a more active Elim would be calling the shots. Mat Kas TKN Steel Archer Ash TJ Araris Kas wouldn't shoot JNV D1, if anyone wants to fight me on that bring it on Mat TKN Steel Archer Ash TJ Araris Now for the tricky part. Archer is the only other player who actually acknowledged JNV D1 outside of Vote Counts and things. I don't know if that excludes him from doing an NK on them, but it's being noted because its all there is to note. There's also the note that in the last MR, Mat and TJ were Elim and shot JNV on C2 (with Mat making the final call on that). That's been brought up in thread before. By Archer. At least twice. What do I make of that? Not entirely sure. The paranoid part of me wonders if that means Archer-TJ are E-E. But for NKA, I'll leave that rabbit hole alone. Archer isn't out of the woods on this case though. TKN* Steel Archer Ash Araris Think that's as far as I can go. Asterisk on TKN that they mentioned wanting to ask JNV what they elevated in, but that could go either way. Also an asterisk on Araris (already expelled), Steel (inactive later but decently active M1), and Ash (solely because that's me and I'm not going for me) on who to not go for. I'd go for TKN as an ultimate target looking at only M1. M2 - Drake Drake is decidedly not a low-info kill. He was apparently using PMs a lot (even excluding the Overthrow The Nobles PM), and active in thread. In addition, Drake has another note - he didn't Elevate M1 (or M2, though the Elims wouldn't know that). Drake was also up for the exe - only by 2 votes, which isn't a lot, but depending on DP enough to be threatening. And notably those two votes were also both from Archer. Mat Kas TKN Steel Archer Ash TJ Araris Szeth Stink Sart Bye Kas Mat TKN Steel Archer Ash TJ Araris Szeth Stink Sart Steel was completely inactive this turn. I don't think anyone else was? Mat TKN Archer Ash TJ Araris Szeth Stink Sart Drake had public suspicions of both Archer and Mat, with side willingness-to-vote both Wonko and Ash but reasons not to vote either. Archer had double voted on Drake, again - don't think that would lead to him also putting a kill on Drake as well. It's... possible, but I don't think it's Archer's MO, not if he's actually pushing Drake. Mat TKN Ash TJ Araris Szeth Stink Sart I'm going to remove myself here, if only because I have the argument that I wouldn't kill Drake both because of joint RP and joint (at least publicly) alchemical aspirations. (Part of this is also something I can't quite talk about yet, but is another argument that I want to keep Drake around.) Mat TKN TJ Araris Szeth Stink Sart What from here. I'm not really updated on kill metas as much as I was, just that this probably isn't a direct fear kill as much as a potential one. Mat is a decent candidate for this as the only one really directly in the sights of Drake besides Archer, or someone like... literally anyone deciding to take out Drake before he had time to ramp up whatever he was planning. Szeth (or TKN) might have fear-killed Drake off of LG95 (he brought up something with that in a PM with me). And I'm running out of time, great. Anyway, the swap from low-info kill to fear-kill is notable. Drake might have become a target because of no elevations, or just a classic fear kill. Could be different players making decisions which throws things off. M3 - Wonko Thoughts on Wonko - Wonko had 1 elevation. One post the turn before he went Insane, though was talked about. This feels like another low-info, perhaps? Perhaps not if the softing was there I'd need to double check. I want to give that due dilligence later rather than half-do it now. Ultimate conclusions: Look, maybe there's an argument for E!Kas going full RP mode a la Dingo. But Kas isn't doing that anymore, and Kas shooting JNV M1 and Drake M2 makes absolutely no sense, so not today PTA Archer is strange, but I don't think Evil unless he's spending time covering for allies (TJ?). Steel is inactive and we can deal with that later. I'm me, Ashbringer, who needs to go to work now. TKN is Village read-ish and I need to double check why because he might be a good candidate for M1'ing JNV. Mat might become a discussion black hole, and their interactions with Archer are a bit noteworthy but mostly from Archer's side. Sart is... ??? Gonna be honest, I haven't kept up with the thread that much but I'd need to check if he's Village read now after getting out of 8 votes. My work break is probably going to be over rollover, so TKN. More just for tuition than suspicion, and I also haven't finished analyzing or checked on what reasoning's going on this turn and need to leave so I don't have time to. But also, a bookmark for later.- 692 replies

Oooh boy 3 quotes immediately. I'd agree that those are closer, in that I was just too busy to look at things in depth and trying to actually dig myself out of it wasn't going anywhere. But there is the difference that I was actively suspected for most of both those games, vs just some light glances from you+Archer here, and spent a lot of what time I had either fighting an exe or trying to get the village to decide whether or not to actually exe me. I'm trying to avoid that backslide now that I can do things. Paranoid Threnody Ash isn't good but Discussion Black Hole Ash is worse- 692 replies

I do want to say - I don't think this is Dingo for me, not exactly. Dingo was me going strictly RP because I couldn't build the energy to actually contribute to my Elim team, for a variety of reasons game-related and not. I'm just busy now. Work tends to be right when rollovers happen and my break is usually spent doing different things, then I sleep, and I also just have other things to do while I'm awake. I'm still trying to pay attention to what's happening, and I am trying to vote based on at least gut instead of just random tuition-decreasing votes. I'm just not doing it very well because I'm not posting a lot. Plus in games like this, I like doing things in the background more than the foreground. There's a lot of actions available, and I am a Re'lar, I'm not just sitting around. There's also the note that the last two times I decided to step up on the analysis I ran face-first into Paranoid Threnody Ash, which I am... trying to avoid Going to try gut reading things (this is partially quantity over quality, but for now I don't have much time for more): Good: Kas, TKN Good-Meh: Archer, TJ, STINK Meh: Mat, Sart Meh-Bad: Araris, Szeth Bad: Idk MIA: Steel, Wonko For now, Araris Steel. Not really confident in either of those so I'll leave it without double voting.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Ashbringer replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Issal had heard of Kevan, a little. The other Re'lar. The... logician, Issal thought. He'd seen him during the first few introductory classes but they'd both specialized by now. At least what little Archives time they had wasn't shared, and Issal spent so long with Alchemy that it was hard to tell. But he heard the whispers, surrounding them both. A little more distant now, with Percyl... the whispers didn't seem to carry so far anymore. But Kevan was in Medica. Or had been, for something like burnout. Gathering information by listening to other students walk below from the higher eaves of the library he was sitting in was a slow method. But Issal couldn't be the only one doing this. He couldn't. How was he doing this? In Latria he could barely do anything, always someone with a quicker eye or a better word, even if his insight helped with the cat situation. But now he was a Re'lar, based on half a knowledge of the wrong kind of alchemy and a drive to find a myth. He couldn't understand half the words in his textbooks, half of what his professors said. But he just kept trying, and it just kept working. Was he just good at asking the right questions? He'd done that several times in some classes, asked a question that was at worst a direct lead into the professor's next topic or a different thing that drew praise. His work grades were average - for working alone - but it still felt... wrong. Everyone said they felt like they were one false step away from failing down a long cliff. Issal felt that too. He just didn't understand how he'd walked that edge for so long without taking that step. Maybe he should go talk to Kevan. Maybe another Re'lar would understand. But perhaps he should wait on that, wait until he had recovered, or wait if he wanted to find him. And blast, Issal could talk to anybody. Solitude was only going to get him so far, Percyl had proved that, and his exams were still threatening to. Besides, Issal thought as he cracked open another book. I'm finding leads on my own. (Might edit in some analysis, might post again, might just go to bed. idk.)- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Ashbringer replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Issal wondered about things too often. He had proved that his lack of knowledge of the area wasn't a detriment, that wasn't it - he was already one of two Re'lar in the newer batch of students. Issal still wasn't entirely sure what a Re'lar meant, but he was one, and that meant the Masters gave him a few more nods or paid more attention to what he said. That was good, usually. The cries of teacher's pet hadn't started yet, but Issal also felt the green eyes of some other students. Then was the matter of Percyl. At first combining forces in the search for a mythical stone sounded like the start of some of Issal's old stories. A perfect start. And then Percyl... he'd been asking about money, a lot. Issal thought he was trying to make a profit selling alchemical creations. Which was fine, he'd done that for a long time too. They'd gotten further apart as Issal climbed. And then Percyl cracked. Or... crocked, they called it here? Issal could feel the pressure. Even doing well, you were supposed to excel and the higher you got the more you could fall. Alchemy was one of the hardest falls besides maybe Naming. But... not Percyl. Whatever his motivations, that wasn't right. Issal knew fae trickery from his home. Had been on the receiving end of it once or twice. This was different. It was time to find out just how different this place was.- 692 replies

Well here I am, again. My most free day in the last week and probably the next one too is tomorrow which is right over the 12 hour rollover! Great. But I won’t have work so I’ll have the evening, hopefully. I don’t feel great about either Szeth or Araris right now. Szeth feels… not entirely sure. More impulsive, especially compared to Frost, but also seems a bit of a flip on style from M1. Araris mostly because a double vote on one of two people keeping the thread running at that point doesn’t sit well with me. And while this isn’t Threnody it’s enough for me. Also apparently I don’t understand how the Elevations work for there to have been only 8, but… I guess that makes sense? Almost a distro question at that point. And may not happen again for a while.- 692 replies

One of the Masters didn't elevate anyone. Unless two Masters can elevate the same player in one turn which I tried and failed to figure out if it was possible. If not, then there was no overlap in Mat/Araris/Drake/Wonko/TKN/Archer in one field, or perhaps among everybody. I don't know if that's in any way relevant to anything. But I also gotta go so... hopefully I think of something on my break.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age

[OOC: we have Wi-Fi here?] Issal couldn't keep his eyes from widening. That name he recognized. "The Philosopher's Stone... I never thought of that as a reagent. It's... a legend. A thing, that you can activate. Like a relic." He let Percyl keep going, nodding along. He didn't want to sound too eager, not to the first person he met... "And I think you're right, it wouldn't be that dangerous. The Master's reagent didn't replicate itself, and even if it didn't expend itself it wouldn't... how do I put this. If it just made gold and you rolled it down a mountain, it'd just leave a trail of gold however big, but it would stop? The world only ends if it turns everything to gold, or turns things into something that turns everything to... a recursion loop of making gold, I guess. Grey goo scenario." He was rambling a bit, but he'd gotten his point around. "I'm from Latria. It's... not sure how far away. Spent a long time on a boat. I went to a school there, for a while, but they weren't really Alchemy specialists, so here I am." He paused, smiling. "And also their Archives. If you're searching for legends, it's a nice place to be."- 692 replies

"Issal," he replied, grabbing the offered hand. "Issal Jackson. Did you get the textbook early or something? I'd barely heard of transforming reagents before, I'd always thought of it as a process. And I'd never heard of the High King seeing a... a something like that." He'd barely heard of a High King before, but he wasn't about to say that. He was... very new to this country, even still. "Do you think something like that could really exist? Just, turns whatever touches it to gold? Seems like if someone dropped it it could end a world. Maybe if you kept it just in a bowl of gold no one could move..." Issal shook his head. "That seems too simple." He'd bet a lot on that being too simple. It didn't make sense. Things like Naming, they didn't need to make sense, but alchemy always did. Almost always. So if something didn't make sense, it should keep not making sense, right? Just don't tell anyone, because they'll think you don't make any sense. "Anyway. I'm from kind of far, most of my alchemy training is about the crafting more than the ingredients. Hopefully they still consider that alchemy here, or I'm not going to do so well."- 692 replies

Issal's head perked up. "I think that would be called a disaster," he said suddenly. There were a few giggles in the attending students, but Issal just shook his head and kept going. "If something like that existed, it would transmute anything it touched unless it was properly treated, so if any got out it could consume a lot. Especially if whatever it transmutes keeps the same property. That's a grey scenario." The professor - Master? El-the? he wasn't entirely sure - gave a side glance, but Issal thought he saw something besides irritation in his eyes, which would have been a first. But, best not to push his luck, so Issal stuffed his head down into his notes. Gold. Of course someone else would ask about gold, it's the first thing that anyone needs. There were already enough people grumbling about tuition, and he had a feeling his pockets would be feeling light shortly. But it was still... he thought he'd done well in his early studies, but maybe he was just mimicking everyone else. Of course, this talk of essences and regulus was new to him. His training was limited to draughts and potions, and the occasional phial of acid. So he just gave a shrug to the questioning student and wrote.- 692 replies
