  1. Thank you. That kinda explains it... :I
  2. What happened there is maybe similar to what happened to the Eta Carinae system: this As the second star (which is now a white dwarf) became a red or a blue giant (it may have easily been a star with 10-20 Solar masses), the first star (that is now a white-blue supergiant) accreted material from the second one. What is left from the second star is its core- a white dwarf and a hypergiant star as the first one. The only way this system is possible is to have the planet in the exact center of mass of the system. Then, assuming the supergiant must have 40-50 solar masses and the white dwarf is 1.4 max, then the planet should be approximately 40 times closer to the big star then to the dwarf. Knowing the surface temperatures on the dayside are not like 1000K or more, the distances should be BIG. So the orbital periods should go to hundreds of years. Maybe the planet's atmosphere is very reflective or absorbing in the UV spectrum, otherwise people on the bright side would be black. People on the dark side have darker skin because the white dwarf usually has a surface temperatures as high as 100000K, which makes it glow almost entirely in UV. Then, the most of the UV light from the bigger star will be absorbed / reflected, which also applies for the dwarf, but it produces hundreds times more UV than a regular star, so it becomes noticeable on the surface, resulting in darker skin and fluorescent glow. But, there is a problem, the dark side would be REALLY cold if the temperatures on the bright side are not extreme. So there must be some really big air mass movements to distribute heat more evenly across the planet, which may be the Shard's work to make the planet more inhabitable. Even if this exists, everyone on the bright side will be instantly pierced with Industrial quantities of high-energetic particles, resulting in almost instant death or radioactive poisoning in the matter of seconds. The only solution to this problem is a VERY STRONG magnetic field, wrapping the planet, which can be created in two ways 1. Fast spinning molten metal core of the planet (like on Earth, but bigger and faster spinning), which is not possible, because Taldain is practically not spinning. 2. Magic Well, thats all from me. Have a great day!
  3. So, as I am reading through this, it looks like the savant wiki page and the soulcasting wiki page are wrong about soulcasting savanthood. Soulcasting savants do not start looking like the essence they are producing, but rather some kind of spren. Kaza may not be turning into a highspren, but she is surely turning into some kind of smokespren, seen in Celebrant and on Notum's ship in Shadesmar. Ithi and her sister start looking like cultivationspren and the ardent that soulcast Gavilar looked like the shining-cracked-stone-spren. Also, Kaza does not taste food and almost doesn't need to eat. Spren don't need food and neither can taste it. The aimian that poisons the group of people (and Kaza) trying to approach Aimia, claims that Kaza is almost not a human. So am I right to claim that soulcasting savants turn into some kind of spren, but not an essence? Does a change in the wiki need to be done? Some questions are to be asked here: The one wielding the Azish soulcaster that produce bronze surely must be a savant after creating *so much* bronze to build the entire royal palace alone. What does she turn into, as bronze is not one of the ten essences so shouldn't have a corresponding spren? What happens to soulcasters producing meat?
  4. If blades formes from air, then they should be hot after forming, as when you compress air, it becomes hotter. Also, there should be a lot of wind generated, because of the sudden comperssion of air, the reverse of what happened in TWoK:
  5. Hello there. As I read this thread, I see nothing wrong with stormlight being some kind of a high energy particle. Considering the law of total internal reflection, it can be stored in gemstones, decaying over time. Considering Roshar's gravity is ~0.7g, it's atmosphere shouldn't be as dense as Earth's. So the refraction angle between air and the gemstone will be bigger, therefore the angle of total internal reflection would also be bigger. So saving energy in gemstones on roshar is easyer than on Earth. Now on the glow. It may be working on a principle, similar to the way the ruby lasers work. The high density of high energy particles in the gemstone would provide enough energy to archieve population inversion in the gem. So the stone may become a little, not very efficient optical resonators. So the energy stored in the gem is not released entirely as light. And this does make sense because flying for a couple of minutes must cost a lot more energy than a candle-like light source in a week. Maybe the Cherenkov Radiation mentioned earlier can do the same thing, but I am not one who knows a lot about it. As for stormlight as a liquid, photons can be considered as a liquid in some cases. But I prefer not to bother with this too much because this may lead to major book spoilers for me (I have read only TWoK, WoR, ED) If there is someone more competent than me who can do the math and say certainly if this is possible, I will be glad to hear.
