I've wondered about the same thing and can see where you're coming from. But after thinking about it for a while, I don't think it would work very well because: Flashbacks take up far more screen time than simply saying "Oh, someone murdered my mother when I was young." And it can sometimes be very annoying to impatient readers like me. One of the reasons Stormlight still have flashbacks is because there isn't a way for Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar to casually mention their backstory and we likely wouldn't get to know it in time. But that's not the case with Vin or Kelsier. That being said, I do think a bit of Sazed flashbacks can work really well. We didn't get to know much about him or Terris and his flashbacks could add an interesting flavor to the story.

If you were me, I would read A Song of Ice and Fire first, Lord of the Flies second, To Kill a Mocking Bird last. I've been wanting to read asoiaf for ages, but my mom never let me. I'm not a fan of lotf, but it's school work and that's that. (I just envy the people who get to read books as their homework. Even if it's classic literature, and those tend to be less interesting) I might have read tkamb before, I can't remember. I'm not into depressing books, so I'll always read that last.
