"I can't. Kid, I wish I could, but I can't." Jinn shook his head. "I get that you're angry, but you don't have to be. Kid, you're thinking like you're the lynchpin for some grand world-changing event, but you don't have to be." He thought for a moment. "If you make such a rash decision right now, then... it's not going to end well. Making a spur-of-the-moment decision that could change the course of history is never a good idea. I need you to cool down and think of some other options. Please."

"Kid..." Jinn thought for a moment, then sat down next to her. "I... I get that you're scared, kiddo. You didn't ask for any of this... I didn't ask for any of this. Whoever did is probably cackling to himself in some tower surrounded by storm clouds or something. But... like you said, you're just sixteen. But I've been around for thousands of years, and I get how magic works and everything. So... trust me a little." He nudged her. "Okay?" Jinn grinned slightly. "Nicely done. You'll be debating politics like a pro, next."

"I... I think I get it now." Janice crossed one of her hands over her arm. "Why some people are bad. They just... a lot of bad things happened to them. I think that... maybe when a lot of bad things happen to you, it becomes harder and harder to be good."

Jinn backhanded her across the face. Hard.

"He never ran. He never ran from me. He was right next to me all the time, even..." a sharp breath, "even when I... killed him. He refused to run away. Lloyd refused to leave me... but it cost him everything."

Jinn grabbed Grace's arm in a fury. "What makes you think that anything you do is any different than what the people you're supposedly trying to stop are doing? This isn't some kids book or fantasy! This isn't some book you can put down whenever things turn south! This is happening, this is happening right now, and you're the only one I can see here making terrible decisions with the infinite power!"

"Lloyd was a good friend. He always wanted to help, and he never ran from anybody." Janice shook her head, squeezing her eyes shut. "He'd never run from anybody... anybody..."

Jinn turned his back to them. "I've already told you," Jinn said. "If we did that, the result would be... beyond a scale you could comprehend. You'd be solving one crisis with another."

Janice reached over and placed her hand on Shidala's. Her eyes might've been tearing up a little bit too. "I'm... Lloyd wasn't always the way you knew him."

"If you did that," Jinn growled coldly, "in your current state, then the result would be catastrophic."

Janice nodded. "Yeah. And I've... I've only had friends for a few weeks. I thought I lost them when Trace took over... I thought I lost them when..." Janice shut her eyes and took in a breath. "When... I almost..." She shook her head and moved on. "I can't even begin imagine what it would be like to lose everyone."

"Because what if they actually come here? What if something breaks out, and... what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?" Jinn shook his head. "You're out of your wheelhouse, messing around with the nature of magic itself, and it's not going to turn out well."
