  1. After their failure to acquire psteel from Reabromore, Psmithania's oligarchy decides to use their final psteel pstores in order to research cutting-edge mining technology, hoping to discover another colossal horde of psteel. They call back their army and order every able-bodied citizen to aid in the mining process, setting up mining stations across the face of the nation. However, after years of effort, they have failed to find any more psteel. In fact, the only thing they've managed to find over the past decade is psilocite, which doesn't even conduct electricity. As a result, they cut down on their military spending and divert more money towards research. Meanwhile, the population grows restless: the wealth that they had been promised when they joined the psteel alliance is nowhere to be seen. Many of them feel cheated and abandoned. Since there is currently no hope for new supplies of psteel, the oligarchy must now rely entirely on their own efforts and resources. With this in mind, they decide to focus all of their energy on developing new technologies, in hopes of becoming self-sufficient. Their first priority is to develop better mining techniques, as well as more efficient ways of transporting the ore they mine. Next, they will attempt to create more advanced weaponry using the raw materials they have available. Re: Psilocite The AI friggin figured it out XD
  2. Wonderful! *Starts walking down the subforum* The whole place dates back to 2011, but we're currently remodeling it for modern audiences. The most historic threads of note are CBST, The Knights Next Door, and Fellowship of the Thing; to name a few. The Shard's been in something of a new generation recently: not many folks are up to roleplaying. We've been working on fixing that. *Stops at the new threads* Here we have a decent portion of our non-starter gallery: plenty of roleplays started but never gaining any real traction. Zvso, Greatowl University, and the Insanity Clinic are the only exceptions currently (though Tales of Trune is also noteworthy). *A dozen identical ladies in red gowns jump out from the sides. A wall flips around to reveal a projector screen. Fireworks go off.* SO YOU WANT TO START A ROLEPLAY? You don't want your wonderful world to be lost to the abyss of worldbuilding hell? Well you've come to the right place. Your very own Channelknight Fadran is here to guide you through the steps to successfully start a roleplay and get it off the ground. Step One: Establish the setting! Just like in novel writing, you have to engage your audience in the setting. For roleplays, you have to ensure that where everyone is and what's going on is interesting and accessible. Nobody wants to start a roleplay in "the city" - but people are down for meeting up on the shattered plains at a Kholin warcamp. But it isn't just about having a time and a place. You also have to establish what kind of roleplaying will be done here. Are you for character drama and deep emotions? Adventure and exploration? Or do you just absolutely need to write some epic anime battle sequences? Make sure it's clear to everyone what the tone and general content type will be! Step Two: Give out the relevant worldbuilding! Despite popular belief, this is just as important for worlds everyone is familiar with as it is for personal worldbuilding. This ties in with establishing the setting perfectly: you need to provide some writing (usually a few paragraphs, though several of the best RPs in history have entire PDFs of worldbuilding tied to them). Make sure to emphasize what's most important. If you're unsure about any of this, feel free to consult your local Roleplay Expert (me). Step Three: Provide character sheets! As Roleplay Leader it is your duty to provide a character sheet template for your future players. While most people can construct a character perfectly fine on their own, it is a common courtesy to give them a basic outline regardless. Not only is it a simple more, it's also to ensure your players have the correct features required for your setting. Most character sheets will include the following: However, depending on the setting, you'll want to provide other requirements to keep people straight. Such possibilities could include: For a Stormlight Archive RP, you'll need to decide whether or not you want Knights Radiant around. If yes, include an option for your Order! If not, don't; and clarify that in your worldbuilding section. Step Four: Other courtesies The first post in every thread is referred to as the Original Post, or simply OP for short. To make things convenient for everyone, compile your worldbuilding, character sheets, and PCs here. Generally it's upon the RP Leader to determine the overall plot and lead it onwards when progression stagnates. However, this does NOT mean that the Leader should act as a GM. Frankly, second person is dumb and should be avoided. But if you're here and you say you've RP'd before, then you probably already know that. Upvote the good posts. Seriously, guys. We need more rep. Now proceed, lunaf! Bedazzle us with your roleplay excellency!
  3. I love them too! They just aren't that great. Excuse you. Those are good janky motion controls.
  4. I'll try it again someday. Hm. I certainly don't blame your opinion in that case.
  5. I stopped after a dungeon and a half because I got bored.
  6. I liked them too. They just aren't that good
  7. No. It said that you could combine copper and tin to create an alloy that's stronger than bronze. When you combine copper and tin you get bronze
  8. What your favorite Zelda game says about you: Just 'cause I was bored.
  9. Having escaped from the clutches of the Brotherhood, Realmingsburg uses this peaceful period to research new technologies, with the end goal of finding a way to defend itself from the increasingly aggressive World. First, they start by researching ways to manufacture iron and steel. This proves difficult; while there are plenty of stones found near the city that contain traces of iron, the only way to make it into usable material is through a highly advanced process involving alchemy and transmutation. Realmingsburg knows that the technology exists to make iron, but they lack the resources needed to make it happen. They do, however, have a large stockpile of bronze. The problem is that this metal isn't nearly as strong as iron. The people of Realmingsburg decide to test the hypothesis that they could combine copper and tin in order to create an alloy that is both stronger and cheaper to produce than bronze. They discover that this does indeed work, leading them to successfully produce iron. However, they still need to find a way to make the iron harder without losing its malleability. This leads them to discover that they can add carbon to iron in order to make it harder, but at the same time, weaken the metal's resistance to corrosion. Once they manage to do this, they discover that they can create a type of iron that is much stronger than normal, allowing them to build guns and other metal weapons with ease. They also learn about a process known as smelting, which allows them to turn ore directly into usable ingots. Finally, they discover that they can use the crucible method to create steel. These methods allow them to increase production, enabling them to expand their arsenal and train more soldiers. You have a new resource: friggin cannons. I'll start allowing people to research primitive gunpowder tech in lieu of this.
  10. The new Commune decides to try yet again to further their own technological discoveries, opting to go for firm hard metals instead of magic. After months of research, the people of the Commune discover that there's a way to create metallic materials using certain chemicals. However, these methods require certain chemicals and ingredients which aren't available in the area around the Commune, and so they must travel to the border region between the Kingdom of Reabromore and the Kingdom of Nam-Ed. There, they find a town called Haven that is home to many merchants who sell rare goods, including an ingredient that can be used to make the necessary chemicals. The people of the Commune buy all of this stuff, and begin experimenting to see if they can use the ingredients to create hard metals. While they have some success, they don't yet know how to produce enough of the metal for weapons or anything else. So, they decide to call upon the aid of the Kingdom of Not-Luxembourg. However, they soon realize that the Kingdom of Luxembourg has no interest in assisting them, and that they're just using them to further their own agenda. In response, they send an envoy to the Kingdom of Nam-Ed, explaining their situation and asking for help. But when the envoy arrives, he learns that the Kingdom of Nam-Ed wants nothing to do with them either. They've already made allies with Reabromore, and don't intend to make any more enemies, especially not with the powerful Kingdom of Luxebourg. To make matters worse, the people of Reabromore have recently begun to fear the idea of the Commune continuing its technological advancements. They believe that if the Commune can develop technologically, then the Kingdom of Luxebourg might do so too. Furthermore, the people of Reabromore are also concerned that if the Commune were to become stronger, then they may eventually turn against them and join forces with the Kingdom of Luxebourg. Hence, the people of the Commune are left with very few options. They decide to call upon the aid of the Kingdom of Nam-Ed once more. After all, the kingdom did agree to assist them last time. You have gotten a new resource: fancy alchemy metal! Only you can't use it yet. Oh and also @Nameless is allied with Reabromore now apparently.
  11. Something brushed past him. A presence... something stronger than the rest. Enshao reached out instinctively. Later he wouldn't be able to explain the sensation, but at the time it was like the urge to slam on the breaks and jump out of the car in order to look at the lost cat. The curiosity had a mind, will, and form of its own, seemingly. It sparked to life within him, pushing past the sea of abstract feeling to the... whatever it was. The something shied away. Wait! He pulled the sensation back, tucking it in on itself. The curiosity shifted away into the softness he could only ever project with an intent for patience, waiting on the stray cat to come to him. He locked himself into that feeling, focusing away from everything else. The strange beadiness of the chair, small itches across his body; the stillness of the air despite the current of intent. All his attention pushed into the feeling. The presence touched back at him. Its curiosity matched his: a lightearted kind of... thing. There really weren't many words for it. Hello. The words were loud and clear in his mind, but Enshao pushed out the feeling of a full greeting outwards as well. It didn't leave at his advance this time. It shied closer, pulling inwards. Who are you? Though in the context of all this feeling devoid of logic, it was more akin to identify. There was hesitation. Enshao couldn't really blame it for that, at least. Most regular people wouldn't very well spill their identity to a person they just met. But to its credit, it tried to reply. It was slow at first, eeking out just a couple base feelings: a contentedness without reason, doubt towards development, and a lingering sadness hidden deep within everything else. It didn't come or go in the sense that a physical thing could, rather just washing over him in sync and consistency like a ray of sunlight. Among it was another urge: for Enshao to reply. He started by thinking about it, then quickly shut that down. Right. No thinking. Just... vibes. What were his vibes? Enshao tried to project his joy at joining the university, then pushed into simplicity with the feeling of cuddling Bunny at night. Neither seemed to satsify the sensation. Right: it had given him its entire being with just one flow of feeling. Going one at a time wouldn't get him anywhere. But how in the world was he supposed to project all his emotions at the same time? The being had given both contentedness and depression. How? Maybe he just needed a different medium. Some kind of... The spark of inspiration shot into his mind. He looked down, then reached into his pocket and brought out his notebook. Sliding the pencil from behind his ear and opening the book, he began to doodle. Nothing in particular, really: just the same old dragons and wizards and swords and airships. But he tried to project the feelings that the thing had entrusted to him, constructing the scene to match its presence. Before long he had a grand kingdom, and before long he had completely fallen past conscious construction and into the state of flowing inspiration. The feelings from the presence melded and warped into his, bridged by the comfort in ability he had developed over so many years. And before long the being had come in to observe, now presenting one emotion more powerful than the rest: comfort.
  12. I am more than willing to guide a new soul into my subforum.
  13. The High Priest of Serenitas goes to meet with the ruler of Nam-Ed to negotiate peace as the construction of the fort around Serenitas is halted, suggesting that the King drafts more civilians for the army in case things go wrong. When the High Priest meets with the king, they agree on a cease fire between Serenitias and Nam-Ed, and promise to leave the other kingdom alone. The priest tells the king to finish building the walls, and then asks him to draft more men and women to serve in the army so that he may return home without any further trouble. The king agrees to the terms and begins drafting civilians into his army. As he does, he notices that there are a lot of young children among the recruits. Unsure of why the king had drafted them, the priest inquires about the matter. The king explains that the reason behind it was because he wanted to keep the population of the capital low and therefore didn't want to worry about the safety of his citizens. He also explained that he intended to build a wall around the capital, and that while he would do everything possible to protect the people from harm, it wouldn't be safe for everyone to live within the fortress walls. The priest was perplexed, asking the king to explain what he meant. The king replied that he couldn't tell the priest any more than that. Despite their streak of consistently making enemies with anyone and everyone they ever interacted with, the Gahestian Empire offered a treaty to the Kingdom of Not-Luxembourg. The king of Luxembourg, who had been secretly working with the Kingdom of Nam-Ed to undermine the Gahestians' power and get revenge on them for the assassination of his father, refused their offer. This caused the Gahestians to march on the capital city of Luxebourg and kill the king. His wife, Queen Elizavetta, took control of the throne and declared war on the Gahestian Empire. Using the supplies the Gahestians had brought with them, she built up her own army of mercenaries. She then used this new army to invade the capital of the Gahestian Empire and drive out their army. Later, after being faced with the fact that the empire had lost a large portion of their troops, the Gahestians and their queen agreed to sign a treaty. The queen promised the king of Luxebourg that she would never again attack Luxembourg. However, the king knew that this was simply a lie; he could always count on the Gahestians to betray him. Honestly... what was I expecting to happen?
  14. Lookitim gooooooooooo
  15. Here’s today’s drawing. It’s absolutely HORRENDOUS and I HATE IT but I’ve already missed one day and would rather not miss another.
  16. The Wrizrecan empire sends their elemental soldiers to lay waste to the kingdom just south of them: the Ouphamenial Tribunal. The Ouphamenial Tribunal fights back, sending their own armies to fight the invaders. The Elementalists of both sides soon realize that they have more in common than they thought. As the two forces continue their fighting, the Wrizrecan leadership finds themselves faced with a dilemma. If they leave the Ouphamenial Tribunal to fend for itself, its people will be slaughtered. On the other hand, if they aid the tribunal, they risk seeing their own soldiers killed. In order to avoid having to make such a difficult decision, the Wrizrecan emperor orders his soldiers to retreat and allow the tribunal to fend for themselves. The tribunal defeats the enemy army and takes them prisoner. They take the soldiers back to the Ouphamenial Tribunal, where they are later executed. The tribunal becomes enraged at the death of their brothers and sisters. In retaliation, they launch a massive assault against the Wrizrecan empire. The Wrizrecan emperor, fearing he has lost his country to its neighbors, surrenders and asks for a truce. The Wrizrecan emperor gives the tribunal everything they want, including their freedom. But the tribunal refuses to accept this offer, saying that they will only settle with the empire if they are allowed to conquer all of Wrizrea. The Wrizrecan emperor agrees, and the tribunal conquers the entire kingdom. They force the Wrizrecan emperor to become their king and rule over the entire land, and they rename it Wrizrea.
  17. The Captain blew the last whistle, watching without the slightest bit of pleasure as the hundreds of students stopped running and collapsed onto the walls or their knees at the call. The two aides at his side finished tallying their student reports. One of them flashed him the overall status: better than last year, but that certainly wasn’t saying much. Only a few of them had made it to the end with any level of dignity, and even they were drenched in sweat and just about devoid of breath. Many others had taken to walking their laps—a step up, he supposed, above those who simply limped across the wall, gasping for air like a dying fish. Some were more adaptable than others. He’d spotted more than one taking off a push-up or two between blows; while it was technically insubordination, the risk was admirable enough. Still, this wasn’t the time yet for character-building. He only had room for so many full soldiers here, and he couldn’t be selecting from such a breed of featherweights. ”Take a five minute break!” The captain called out to everyone. “About seventy percent of you didn’t make it. So once you’ve caught your breath, we’re doing it all again.”
  18. “I take it they aren’t the things we’re trying to rescue? Or beat the crap out of, for that matter.”
  19. The king of Lynara writes a decree that he is now the permanent ruler, then sends spies into the Auyaevell Empire and the Republi of Vaebudal. Lynara has long wanted to expand her borders, and she believes conquering these lands would make her one of the largest kingdoms in Ylisse(?). She also wants to end the war between the two nations, believing that by gaining allies she can win the war much faster. Her agents, however, are unable to determine whether the rulers of these countries really support the Auyaevell or not. After months of waiting, the king of Lynara realizes that neither country is willing to declare war on her. She sends a message to the leaders, telling them that she will send an army to each nation once winter ends.
