  1. The Lord Of Chaos is the Dark One when he is fully imprisoned.

He is using his own role in reality to undermine the Pattern, hence his book ended introduction. The Dark One fully understands how he operates in the reality, vs what he has announced to that reality when he first gained strength in the Age Of Legends.

  2. I discovered Eye Of The World on a library shelf at my high school when I was 13. The image looked familiar to stories I had read before, but the creature in the sky off to the left intrigued me, because it was nothing I had ever read about before that matched that image. The Eye Of The World followed the Great Hunt; and back and forth for the rest of the year.

Then my parents got The Dragon Reborn for my 14th birthday. Then alternating between Christmas and birthdays, until I caught up with the releases, which happened with Winter's Heart.

It is an amazing ride through the books since then. I have never, ever been disappointed to read the series. I still read them to this day.

Eugenics actually sounds exactly like the kind of thing Taravangian would gravitate towards. An interesting idea, but I'm not sure it's hateful enough. Eugenics is more pragmatic than hateful. I could certainly see Cultivation being involved, but I feel like Odium would make it more aggressive, that's why I went the way I did.

Conservation feels like the same thing as Preservation to me. I've always viewed chaos as the natural opposite of Cultivation (change without reason vs change with purpose) and now that we know Whimsy exists I think it fills that spot nicely. I would still say that a grudge match between Roshar and Scadrial is coming soon though.

As a side note, hatred towards those who don't cultivate nature, humanity or personal growth sounds an awful lot like hatred towards lazy people, which I think would make for a pretty funny Intent for a Shard.

Except Conservation is not the same thing as Preservation. They are different aspects of similar concepts for different tasks.

Conservation means allowing a state to be stable, but allowing growth, change and decay where the state it is conserving evolves into a new existence than when it started. For example, a seed from a tree is allowed to grow back into a tree, and totally changing its entire structure in the process, then creates a seed, and also allows that tree to wither and die. Conservation allows that to occur.

Preservation means allowing a state to be stable, but it only allows growth and change. Decay is forbidden, because it stops evolution of whatever it is preserving into a totally new state of existence. For example, water from a river will evaporate into a cloud and return to the river as rain, going through all its cycles, from ice to steam, but it stays water, with its entire makeup the entire time. Decay is absent from this cycle, so water will never be allowed to cease to be water in its existence, like the tree is allowed.

Conservation deals mostly with living things and minerals that are finite. Once that state ends, those become elements and forces, and then Preservation takes over.

Preservation deals mostly with elements and forces that are vast and infinite, but shares its resources with Conservation.

  4. One of the big theories as to why Robert Jordan changed Demandred was the inclusion of Cadsuaine in the story.

It says that Jordan realised that because he figured out how to expose Semirhage like the way she was revealed, it damaged Demandred's backstory.

The very moment he tied Taim to Cadsuaine, as he did Logain, he was no longer Demandred, because his disguise would have been intterupted the exact same way Semirhage's would later be.

The other famous change of course, was the identity of Asmodean's killer. It is entirely possible that one change lead to the other by reworking the backstory. Demandred is still tied to Taim, just not as one character.

I recently read the Wheel of Time books again. The first time I read them I remember reading at the end when Rand switched bodies with the Chosen he came back in time for the birth of his and Elaine's twins. I couldn't find these events when I read the books the second time. Could someone tell me which book these events occurred or if I was dreaming?

It was in an if world battle with the Dark One. In that, Rand saw his twins as young children, and it was in the timeline if Rand killed the Dark One.

As a previous poster has stated, he did not see them born at the end of the novel.

Whose role would Mat take over? Rand's or the Dark One's? Also, what do you mean? Why would Rand killing the Dark One do that?

Mat would take over Rand's role, since Fain intended to kill Rand, thus taking over the Dark One's role in reality.

But, because Rand made the choice not to kill the Dark One, Fain died.

    That is what I meant.

I suspect that the Heroes are not aware that one of Mat's possible roles in the story is Rand's replacement if Rand killed the Dark One. His conversation with Hend the Hero is an indication of this potential.

If Rand DID kill the Dark One, then the Pattern and the Wheel would have no further use of the Dragon soul, since it fights the Dark One. The Wheel and the Pattern needs balance, or reality goes the way of The Never Ending Story's first film.

Mat balances Fain, so he would be needed and vitally important to existence in this scenario.

We have seen many times that the Pattern keeps people around only while they are important to what it needs them to do, then kills them once their part is done, and some times permanently. Look at Rahvin vs Pedron Niall as two examples of what I mean.

The Pattern would use Fain to consume Rand's soul, since it would need Fain to fill the Dark One's position permanently. It also explains why the Dark One wanted Fain dead so badly, and badly enough to expose Slayer to Perrin; he knew Fain was exactly that purpose.

  7. Yes, but with different details. Rand's soul will be there to fight, as will Ishy. But in that fight, he will need to do different things.

Some have disliked the ending, but, if Rand had killed the Dark One, then Mat takes over his role. Because Padan Fain in the books is not filling Gollum's role; he is Saruman's, and he was heading to Shayol Ghul to fulfill that role. That would make Mat Fain's Nemesis, since he was immune to his corruption. That threat is why Mat had to be at that fight at that moment. Perrin's role is clear, too for equally nasty reasons.

What did you think of Logain? I am interested to hear your views on him.

  8. It depends on the True Power side effects. We saw what happened when Demandred created a shield on Taim. We saw it turned him into a sort of link with his ability to tap the True Power. The same with the fact that the True Power can control animals, but only rats and ravens give full control. These two things makes me think that there is more to why Cuendillar failed. Shai'tan does wear them down, but we saw both how abrupt it was when a seal failed and the amount of energy he had to exert to break the first, but was able to break them faster up till the final three seals remained. I suspect that in the War of Power the Cuendillar would fail quickly, since he had mostly a free hand until the Bore was resealed.

  9. Anyone finish Season 10? What do you all think of it??

    Spoiler

Watched Season 11: I have since learned a few very very very important things:

No 1: 13 is the worst Doctor so far, she is not grabbing me at all

No 2: Chibnall is absolutely god awful as show writer!!

No 3: The stories are not good. I do not remember any story!! They make God and Monsters look like a masterpiece!!

No 4: The show music is not captivating enough. There is no emotional connection to what is happening

No 5: There are no stakes, due to both the stories and how 13 interacts with the environment and characters around her

No 6: The only way I can make sense of her is either she is the Valeyard or:

No 7: A punishment from the Time Lords for killing himself, since Time Lords consider dying culturally evil

  10. This is a long time until now, so here goes:

Cuendillar would not protect against the True Power and any weaves made from it. It would fail. It is how the Cuendillar seals failed. The reason for this, is the True Power has side effects that ignores the rules of the world around it's channeled location.

  11. It is not a slog to read for me. I would go so far as to say this series requires advanced reading and comprehension. I can handle these in two weeks max. That is a book a day. The reason is, because the writing allows me to picture it in my imagination, and can access and remember where I am at any moment. It is like a moving mental picture in my head and it comes from an extensive ability to read and process what I am reading. It is a talent that is sorely lacking in today's society, since book shops are rarer these days. NZ has plenty of shops where books are sold, and we are considered an odd country because of it.

In short, if you enjoy reading massive books, you will be fine. If not, I recommend reading fantasy books that are smaller in size and then build up to Lord Of The Rings and then The Wheel Of Time, since the first books of both are similar in beginning. It takes the stress of the mind in processing the words and themes being presented if they start out similar. If you jump into the story from a easier read, you could over stress your mind to the point that you can easily create headaches from forcing it too much. If that happens, you will never read that series, your mind will not allow you too, and that is the best case scenario. At worst, you will never touch another book again. Even reading signs could be painful for a few days or weeks. I have done that myself. So be careful.

  12. The issue with Demandred is, that while Sammael was considered by the other Forsaken to actually avoid Rand and the Last Battle all together, Demandred they knew would do what he actually did; stay away right until the battle begins, then pick the strongest Light controlled area to smash. Interestingly, Rand knew that Demandred would command the Shadow's battlefield, and that he was the most likely culprit to hit Caemlyn. He also knew that Demandred would reveal himself the way he did, which is why he tried to take command directly. He wanted to draw him out and end him in one big battle, then go to Shayol Ghul.

As for the Taim change, it is the existence of both Cadsuane, and the need for Moiraine to be removed for a set time, that most likely meant that the change happened, in my opinion. Because Demandred would have been caught as easily as Cadsuane caught Semirhage, if he was in disguise, in exactly the same way she did.

Does that mean that Brandon probably still has license to make more WoT stories?

No, he does not. All I meant is that scene indicates RJ's initial plans to explore what that scene meant in the outriggers that he wanted to do with Tuon and Mat going to Shara.
