So, my 17th birthday is coming up, but I'll be at girls' camp starting tomorrow going over my actual birthday, so I'm changing my name and status now! My school's spring musical is Mamma Mia, so I have all the songs stuck in my head, and I'm Tanya, one of the Dynamos, so I get to actually sing Dancing Queen. As such, I thought it only appropriate that I change my name to that, especially since it's a pretty minor change to my initial name. No, I am not a dancer. But I am young and sweet (kinda), and I'm soon to be only 17!

*devises a way to deal over 100 000 damage in DnD (preparation time = lots, activation time = two combat rounds) using only a bag of holding, cold spells, wall of force, fireball, and dubious math*

I'm sitting in the hallway of my school and it's lunch and this guy is walking past and he suddenly goes into this pose with a knee bent and his head slightly down and one hand tipping his hat like he's in a superhero movie and then someone asks "you good" and he goes "yeah" and flips around and does the pose in the other direction and then gets up and goes on his way like nothing happened

Heeeey all! This status update is gonna hopscotch around a lot, but I’m not sorry for it because I’m practicing not apologizing for as many things! Wheeee

This one time I was typing someone’s name in a school assignment, had to do an á and could only access those letters from a weird box in the options; said box covered up the page, and I clicked á several times before having a RealizationTM and exiting the box. I was greeted by ‘Luááááááááááááá’.

That writing schedule I ever-so-optimistically proposed for myself a while back? You may have noticed that that didn’t happen.
So instead I’m dropping the week rigidity and just going for a few things at once, to be completed when I have time.

senior freaking year, man

At this rate I’ll probably have 100 followers and more rep than Brandon by my next Shardiversary, which is...a thought. You guys are too amazing. I’m still shocked that so many of you thought I was interesting enough to follow! *hugs* to everyone!

The TBR is a monster that only grows...

Sneak peek at song parodies I’m gonna be writing:
I Have A Dream, Tangled - In TLT (TLT-themed)
Castle on the Hill, Ed Sheeran - Watcher at the Rim (Stormlight-themed)
Gotta love those syllable counts! (Aksksjdjfjfj ‘syl’able where’s the pun thread when you need it)

I’ve been doing decently mental-health-wise. Not great, but I’m living. I hope you’re all doing okay too.

Go check out Paleo and Jofwu’s incredible awesome fabulous interactive Roshar map and timeline if you haven’t already!!! Like seriously, guys, this thing is so excellent.

I think that’s all for now. You can expect more creative works from me soon!

(Oh and a quick reminder that this WoB exists (it’s at the bottom because I had to attach the file))

On page 767 of WoR:
SpoilerQuote"...Flirt with the girl, Kaladin. It might make the prince's eyes bulge."
Kaladin snorted. "She's lighteyed."
"So?" With asked. "You people are too fixated on that."
"No offense," Kaladin whispered, "but I'd sooner flirt with a chasmfiend."
So, you know the saying, "flirting with danger?" Kaladin flirts with danger...in the form of a chasmfiend...RIGHT BEFORE THE SHARDBLADE-CARVED CAVE CUDDLE SCENE WITH SHALLAN.
So now, on page 966 of WoR:
SpoilerQuote"[Kaladin] had claimed the sky, the winds themselves. Giving them up would be like giving up his own hands."
Giving up hands, huh? That sounds familiar...kind of like the metaphor of REMOVING A FESTERING HAND TO SAVE A WHOLE PERSON. (Elhokar's assassination, anyone?)
That metaphor bugs me, too. The festering part isn't Elhokar, it's Elhokar having that power. The power is the hand that needs to be removed, and it's already in the process of happening. There's got to be a way they could have sped it up, right? Besides scudding killing him, I mean.

Life is...confusing. And hard.
It’s weird to learn that like eighty percent of who you are has possibly been your mental disorder all along. *writes, deletes* Ugh. You can feel free to ignore this, I just thought I’d say it somewhere.
Anyway. Part of my OCD is apparently perfectionism OCD, and to tackle it I need to do things quick and reckless and not avoid them just because I can’t do them to my own standards. So I’m going to join some RPs and write posts that might be short and that is okay.
Storms, this feels awkward. I hereby conclude this update from Ene?

Unfourtunately I could not find anything to say that felt right in the situation, thus, after much deliberation, I think I shall just go with this, precisely what first came to mind when I read your update: Heck yeah!
Taking your problems and solving them head on like this takes what seems like an impossible ammount of strength (whether spiritually, emotionally, or mentally derived I couldn't say, as it seems to take root in each individual uniquely), and it is just one of the many reasons you are a truly admirable person. And this isn't just some shallow compliment, you are literally one of the best people I know. Like Fadran said, if anyone can do this, you can.

Sorry I haven't been active that much. I've been taking a break, my mental health isn't exactly where it should be at the moment, it's not great. I'll still come here occasionally, but I haven't been doing so well. Anyway, yeah. Bye for now.

I changed my profile picture because I was scrolling through random pictures and came across this and immediately thought, "Wow, that looks like my RP character, Queen, and her creature/friend Tchanta." Except Queen has shorter, wavier hair and a top hat instead of a ball cap. But still. I was shook.

Sorry in advance for the wall of text.
I really enjoyed the first Arc and might try Dragon Slayer, it looks pretty cool. I really haven't read any of Sutherland's work since I forced myself to finish the 2nd Arc last year. Just like Wyndle, I lost most of my interest in the series around Escaping PerilI but I read the rest just to see how it ended. After that Sutherland made a series of mistakes that sort of leeched the fun out of the series for me.
My dissatisfaction with the novels started with the Animus magic. Soft magic systems are most often altogether adequate in a fantasy novel (my preference is generally for hard magic systems, but that's just me). This one was unfortunately designed rather poorly, almost like an afterthought. It would still be alright if she had just left it as scenery or a minor plot point, but no such luck, she had to make it the key element in the plot. You are practically asking for a plot failure if you decide an afterthought will be the lynchpin that holds your story together.
What's wrong with Animus magic? You can do Anything. There is legitimately only one rule, that it will make you more cruel the more you use it. Or that's what they say. Then again as some say, 'absolute power corrupts absolutely' and I would be led to believe that that applies here; Cruelty would likely be a side affect anyway, unless the wielder had extraordinary self control. What's wrong with the ability to do anything? Where do you stop? When the magic is equal in power in all who wield it, and two wielder's wills clash, who's magic prevails? Do they cancel one another out? What happens? Even a soft magic system requires rules or you will corner yourself as a writer until you cannot write anymore without throwing all logic to the wind. Mrs. Sutherland chose the alternative to stoping the writing of the book. She took poor reasoning ran with it. Throughout the novels the magic system varies in wonky manners to suit the plot: Upon some occasions the spell that has been cast most recently will take priority and overpower the old one, however upon many other occasions, so long as it suits the plot, the very opposite is true and the older spell remains. This was just... Too much for me. Why did the system constantly change? Why didn't Turtle make all of his friends invincible to Darkstalker? Why didn't Darkstalker make ten thousand clones of himself and vaporize turtle? Ah, yes, because of the plot, that's why. So was then forced to break every main character's critical thinking and logic (that is, if they had any to begin with *glances at Anemone*) so that they wouldn't remember or use to their advantage the fact that they all had infinite power that they could do dang near anything with. She then proceeded to put the cherry on top by choosing [Arc 2 spoiler ahead]
Spoileran ending that involved Kinkajou employing the EXACT tactic (stealing someone's soul and making them look, act and think like another dragon) that was said by herself and several other "good" characters to be "evil" and "not justifiable no matter what" in order to kill Darkstalker.
Okay. That's enough. Enough being too much already; I'll stop ranting. This is just my humble opinion, obviously, and everyone has a right to their own. I'm not trying to offend anyone who liked book nine and ten of WoF, y'all have a right to your own opinions

Forgive any grammar mistakes or typos, there's bound to be a few in this amount of text with little to no editing.

There’s this great talk with Brandons Mull and Sanderson, and I need to share part of it because every time I think of it, I die laughing.
Mull: “So I had a crossover in my recent books, have you ever done any crossovers?”
Sanderson: *takes a moment, laughs* “So actually”
He had no idea what he was asking.
(The second-best part was when they both said that they get people in their signing lines who are looking for the other one. “No, you need the other Brandon.”)

Hear me out: what if you had the dystopian evil government and the main character goes off and joins a resistance group.
And then it turns out that the resistance psychologically conditioned him/her and the government is either doing some not great things, but still keeping the world together or making mistakes while overall putting out good effort or genuinely just good and fighting the problems they supposedly cause, and the rebellion is actually what needs to be defeated, because they’re trying to bring down the actual social structure that keeps the world from anarchy.
I mean, sometimes I worry about people joining terrorist groups of whatever country they live in because alllll the books do it and just...governments are flawed, okay, but if we overthrew them, in most cases things are gonna get way worse. The situation won’t improve. You just took down society and now you have to rebuild and deal with everything the gov. was. (Which can also be done well - hello, Mistborn - but only really if the ones in charge are evil or if the protagonists realize what they did was wrong.)
Also, give me a character who, rather than being defiant in a situation that they shouldn’t be, does the sensible thing and caves. Let a starving character break and take the food offered by their captor. Let a character who’s been conditioned to expect pain at fighting back actually stop fighting back, and quickly. Let characters be human!
Hm, maybe I should stop ranting about stuff before people start to think I hate all literature

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. Although wherever you look in authoritarian societies there is always people trying to resist, even just if only in small ways.
Though 'tis true that you can have rebellions that are in the wrong. In fact, most rebellions are, and I would be interested to see some more fiction with this element included within them.
